Rhino shipped from Pulse today. YAY!!
|
Good god. I thought the $90 remark was joking. $30 a figure, none are larger sized (that would make it however much the Mojo 3 and 1/4 pack costs)....not only that but this is somewhat niche IMO, or at least something I can see a lot of people passing on for that kind price.

It’s just: doesn’t that set have an astonishing amount of casual buyer appeal? Wouldn’t that do way better at mass retail than literally any single-carded character they’ve released this year? I know a double-digits number of people who don’t collect action figures, let alone Marvel Legends, who have asked me lately if they have a Maguire Spider-Man. What an odd, odd decision. |
$90 for a 3 pack seems pretty average to me at this point. I mean, I'll be paying $28 for Amazing Fantasy 15 Spidey when he comes out. Not sure how $2 more for those guys matters. At this point, the prices are what they are. Thankfully, I've got no interest in the pack though, but then i've got the Mojo pack preordered for $132.

It pains me to say I'm getting this because my anticipation is too high. But that's some real exploitative shit Hasbro.

I received the new ML Rhino early from entertainment earth today. WOW he's so big a giant retro card was needed.

Man, Bonebreaker and Havok are really carrying the new X-Men wave. Maggott, Vulcan, and Darwin look great, but are all pretty unspectacular characters, and Sabretooth and Siryn are both super disappointing. Sabretooth’s face looks a little better in-person, but is still pretty bad, and Siryn’s wings are just awful… like, Cannonball’s sad legless under-sized blast awful. It’s a weird costume choice for Wolverine, but it’s still Wolverine, so it’s whatever. Man, are Havok and Bonebreaker spectacular, though.

Hasbro continues to disappoint me with the Spider-Men 3-pack. We finally get new figures of Tobey Maguire's Spidey and Andrew Garfield's Spidey, but we don't get civilian heads, they're sold as a $90 3-pack, and they're a Pulse Exclusive? Hard pass.
2022 has been the most underwhelming and frustrating Marvel Legends year for me yet in terms of which characters get new figures and, most of all, on how the figures have turned out. Sure, we've gotten some awesome reveals so far, such as the Lizard, but even then he's a Walmart exclusive and will likely be hard to find. Between the holes in the 20th anniversary Captain America's shield, the disappointing head sculpts for characters like Sabretooth, and the Doc Ock re-release as a an Amazon exclusive two-pack with no bendy wire tentacles, I'm worried about what the next reveals will be and what 2023 will have to offer. The price increases aren't exactly helping either. I hope you all are having a great day and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Stay safe, True Believers. |

Of course it can make a difference on what you're wanting. I'm not much of an MCU collector. I've got most of the basic characters and will buy a figure if it's a character I want in comic form, but to use as a fill in (like Sersi). But there's a large number of MCU figures released this year. I'm not a huge Spider-man Collector, and I'm not interested in the X-Men animated series figures. That basically leaves two wave that are to my interests so far this year, and while both waves have some figures that are wanted, neither of the waves have something that really wows me. This is the first year in a long time that there's not been any figures I've really been really excited for. |
Havok has shipped from Amazon and claims to be arriving on Monday.

Over on the Fwoosh forums, Zach Oat from Diamond Select Toys has been posting hints about a new, Thor related Marvel Select figure that would revealed at SDCC. While there hasn’t been an official reveal as of yet, these images started floating around on social media tonight of a new Beta Ray Bill figure. BRB is based on Donny Cates artwork from the Hearld Thor story line so he would pair nicely with the upcoming Legends figure for Thor.

Whatever it takes to get Hasbro to re-do Bill. Hopefully, they'll note Marvel Select's proper proportions for Beta Ray, which look Marvelous (heh-heh) here. While I'm not super enthused by Nic Klein's redesign, with the romanesque headdress looking weird and the intentionality to make him look even more equine feeling slightly unnecessary, it doesn't exactly rise to the level of offense either. That said, if we are destined not to get a classic look and we are going with alternatives, i'd still prefer DeVito's:

Wow. That Bill looks surprisingly awesome for a Marvel Select figure.

Dan Yun posted a couple of updates on Twitter this morning.
The first was that there would be a Legends reveal on July 20th, the day before SDCC. The second was that The Lizard would go up for preorder on July 21st for Walmart’s Collector Con event. |

Note: I love all things Marvel, and will always be a fan, and collect Marvel Legends, even if I have to cherry pick, till the good lord takes me. But, when one door closes, another door opens. Once upon a time, I would only collect Marvel Legends. But, because I felt that the line was not meeting my satisfaction, my interest for toy collecting was steered towards a different. So, I have moved on to collect other toy lines, and the experience has been great, especially trying to find figures that I can mix and match into my Marvel Legends collection. |
As a kid I always liked Beta Ray Bill more than Thor and that might still be true. It's nice to see another even if his design is a little odd with that helmet.
