Where is Stuart Green? I think Mezco might be the one to give him what he wanted.

That looks truly amazing! I'm curious how tall the figure will turn out to be. While this is truly appreciated, Boogieman4hire, I still wish this is what Hasbro had done for this year's figure in the first place - given the fans a solo release Doc Ock with bendable wire tentacles that's not an exclusive to a lone website or store. Since the old Doc Ock figure was released in 2018 and the repaint Amazon exclusive is this year, that means it might be until around 2026 that we see the next classic Doc Ock figure.

Oy, vey.

That said, I love that the figure's pose is based off the Marvel Masterpieces trading card of Doctor Octopus by Joe Jusko from 2016.

I think he looks great. Namor was never gonna get a 1:1 movie translation, the actor is buff, tan, has pointy ears and surprisingly green trunks! I assumed they'd adapt his black vest and spandex look...

It's definitely different since they've clearly thrown a heavy ancient Mesoamerican spin onto their Atlantis but at this point it's been well established that the MCU doesn't always aim for strict comic accuracy. Respectfully, could you articulate why you feel it's off?

DarthKamen 07-24-2022 09:40 PM

I get being iffy to the supposed character changes to Namor...but his design? He's a buff, mostly naked guy with wings on his feet and green trunks. And a couple pieces of gold jewelry because the MCU always adds some extra detailing.

If I could find a more comic-y head, I would 100% get this to use as a comic Namor.

WallySparks 07-24-2022 10:41 PM

Im done with the Marvel "Cinematic Universe" movies. Plus Im not going to waste more hours in my life watching some of the crap from Marvel Movies Phases 5 and 6.

Yeah Im sure Secret Wars movie will be "great" or whatever but you pretty much have to wait a long time up to 2024.

another reason why Im skipping Phases 5 and 6 anyway is because of no Alpha Flight or Power Pack movie.

Micheal Rosenbaum a year and half ago or so he was going on the internet claiming he was trying to get a Power Pack movie started

WallySparks 07-24-2022 10:44 PM

but i guess apparently other people would rather see boring crap such as a Lokie Season 2 and a Captain Marvels movie.

No thanks.

Id rather see a proper Alpha Flight or Power Pack movie anyway or even an Elfquest movie which is a comic book series that should be a movie anyway even if its not a Marvel comic or whatever.

at least Spawn got a movie back then in the late 1990s in theaters.

Man, what a nostalgia rush- I haven't seen that image since it was in my binder back in the 90's. Jusko was a damned genius, and Julie Bell was no slouch, either.

TheBlueMarvel 07-25-2022 04:22 AM

I've no qualms with Namor being reimagined with a Meso influence, as I've suggested here in the past that the character looks as though he could be Polynesian, which drew the ire of some heads that no longer visit the thread.

However, that said, Tenoch is far, far too puny to be Namor. He's 5'8", maybe, and before comparisons are made to photos from the cast lined up on stage at SDCC, Hollywood is all about artifice. It's taken years for people to realize Tom Cruise is 5'6" and people still don't seem to understand that RDJ might only be an inch or two taller than that.

As was mentioned, acting chops can go a long way toward adding presence and gravitas, And as someone that takes photos, angles and perspectives can also create illusions. All this without even touching the lifts and platforms used to provide greater stature to shorter actors.

But beyond any of that, calling Tenoch 'buffed', is hyperbole at its finest. Anyone that believes this dude is diesel doesn't know what diesel is. His musculature is soft and lacks definition, he has almost no shoulders, and the promotional photos seem to sport a ceremonial outfit that obscures tiny undefined arms. (dude has zero triceps haha!) It's almost as though the trainer just had him do abs and back and called it a day. (and those back workouts didn't seem to yield much growth; off putting for a character known for swimming...tennis star, possibly)

I'll grant that there are many interpretations for Namor, and I'm certain there is a lot of confusion out there. But the character, while not Thor, or Hercules, has consistently been drawn with thick arms and legs, and shoulders and traps sculpted out of granite. Tenoch simply cannot pass for 6'2" and nearly three hundred pounds of corded muscle.

But, maybe he's a phenomenal actor, Oscar worthy even.

I too get upset when I realize it's not the 90s anymore and that I can no longer get new games for the Dreamcast.

TheBlueMarvel 07-25-2022 04:51 AM

^ Yeah, they made it pretty obvious with the Ghost Rider 50th tease and the speculative HasLab convos about the possibility of Robbie following Galactus' fund were received favorably by a cross-section of fans. I'll take him and the Charger, provided I get other characters/figures in the process. Mephisto better be on point; I see a Knull retool of sorts..the question becomes does Ketch and his hellacious sport bike get thrown in as part of the deal. Ketch also needs to be on a larger mold than the previous GRs imo

That chain is too short though...

Well for one he's not very imposing. People call him buff, but he could use a few pounds, and that big necklace is a nice cultural addition but all it does make him look downright puny. I get that they were trying to get away from Momoa comparisons, but they went too far. Between his smaller physique and that odd facial hair this guy looks less ticked off Superhero King of Atlantis that would and more like he'd be at home playing the nice guy hanging out at a bar on South Beach brought to you by the casting director of Grey's Anatomy.

And no, the MCU doesn't aim for strict comic accuracy, but sometimes that results in a "miss", and so far this is a "miss".

Exactly, I hope once he's on screen he'll win everyone over. But so far (water pun not intentional) I'm not holding my breath with this film surpassing the first Black Panther movie.

After Ms Marvel I am totally excited for The Marvels. Plus, Monica is going to be in it, so that makes it doubly great. What would improve it even more would be having Rogue show up and take Carol's powers away from her.

And why Alpha Flight or Power Pack? I sort of like Alpha Flight, but Sleepwalker and Darkhawk deserve movies before Alpha Flight. Let the X-Men Lite have just an appearance in an X-Men movie.

I laughed way too hard at this.

I didn't know that Disney hired Russel Wilson to play a flabby Namor. This actor has zero muscle definition or muscle tone. Lacks traps, arms & has lower back flab! King of the 7 seas? More like king of the Walruses. Looks nothing like the source material. Namor is built to withstand the rigors of the sea & should have the build of an Olympic level swimmer. This character has been around since 1939 & has never been done on live cinema & this is the "best" Disney could give us? Pathetic!

We get it, you don't like the movie adaptation of Namor and have spent inordinate amounts of time studying pictures of dripping wet men in speedos, just accept that this is the direction Disney is taking ;)

Doesnt mean its a good direction. ;)

Dr Kain 07-25-2022 12:11 PM

I need to see the movie before I can judge what was like a 2 second appearance in a trailer.

Fair enough and yeah I get that his physique is not as developed as we would hope given Namor's standard comic portrayals and the MCU's love for giving us shirtless hunks. I'm still just rather amused by the people going on about how "unrecognizable" MCU Namor is because while he might not live up to one's expectations it's clear that this is Namor we're looking at.

No he doesnt. He looks like a bulimic elf jacked hermes sandal wings then beat up some new york street corner jewelry seller selling tribal jewelry. We wont even go into how atrocious not attuma is.

If we break down the characteristics of Namor's classic appearance he's got: well developed musculature, short dark hair, pointy ears, little wings on his ankles, he's wearing green undies and gold wrist gauntlets, and he's got a light-ish complexion. Classically he also had an unnaturally large and flat cranium (this has been toned down over time) and severely angled eyebrows but these were attributes I always figured any live-action attempt at Namor would cut because they run the risk of him looking like either a caricature or a Vulcan. This movie Namor checks off 5 of 7 boxes (or 4 of 6 if we lump the clothes together) and while he does notably have a bit of added jewelry it doesn't hide anything else. I'm not picking a side right now in the "does he look good or not?" debate but the claims that there's nothing Namor in the design are objectively false.

I agree 100%. A terrible Namor.

Black Arbor 07-25-2022 10:42 PM

I give it a week after the movie comes out, then most everyone will do a 180 on hating Namor's new design...

Boogieman4hire 07-26-2022 12:35 AM

Personally I think his design is great. I will concede that the guy is smaller than what we usually think of Namor but I doubt that will have much bearing on anything. Also just saying Mexicans aren't usually very tall. Going that route conceptually of making Namor Aztec, Tenoch is above average. My dad's 5'5 and that's really not out of place or short by our standards. Me on the other hand am 6'1 and I get stared a lot whenever I'm in Juarez because I just seem gigantic. Don't know but it's your shit I guess dudes. Watch it don't watch it. The movie's been filmed, the actor's been cast, that is the final design, and the toys have been made. What else is there to really do?
Also side note I do agree with Dr. Kain about the Na'vi thing with Attuma there. I think that could've been less noticeable if they didn't flatten his nose.

Sataninjaku 07-26-2022 01:11 AM

I just think Namor kinda sucks. Lemons outta lemonade ;).
