So sorry, there are three of us now! Lol And, yeah, the current polarization really sucks, but thems' the times we're living in. I'm guilty of 'passion', at times, but I can be talked down off my soapbox pretty easily, if you give me time to think. ;) |
If we were all capable of that level of introspection, I suspect we wouldn’t have half of the problems we do!
In other news, Dorkside is running a terrific sale right now. Bonebreaker wave Havok is ten bucks, among other things. |

It just hit me but in the latest She-Hulk trailer that pack of teenagers was the Wrecking Crew. If you guys are going to talk about comic to screen translations I hope that's not it for them.

Ok. I was wrong about how many fans there are here. :p

I've been a High E fan since the Avengers tale " Knights of Wundergore!" A classic tale with Byrnes art.

Even more unhappy with them because it definitely means they now fall into the “cOmIc vS. mCu BrAnD cOnFuSiOn” black hole that has most recently claimed Attuma & Namora. |

For those unfamiliar, as I was until a few minutes ago, the reference to 'comic vs MCU brand confusion' begins at 4:28 (4:59 for the specific reference). Of course, provided this is in fact the conversation/video in question.. EDIT: Sans any mention of Man-Ape or Mantis, this likely isn't the dialogue, but there is a mention of 'brand confusion' and Marvel's preferences. Well, thanks for that, Ultra, I usually don't tune into this sort of stuff as a deliberate effort to avoid moments like this one. (ignorance is bliss, in this scenario) Disheartening indeed as Marvel seems more adept at cocking things up than they are at delivering splendor. They sit atop a trove of creativity, but rather than ministering like a grand historian, they perch, troll-like, on a commode overtop vast treasures spreading excrement on the precious works they horde. Looks like the Legends team isn't to blame for everything related to character choices within the line. I'm glad that I'm very selective in what I consume in the way of Marvel entertainment. I might start boycotting this mishegoss of multiverses and What if-isms even more so than I have now knowing that it fits into a plan to give me only things slightly adjacent to what I actually want. |
No problem, BM! Thank you for the Shakespearean (or, honestly, Lee-esque) soliloquy, you summed very eloquently the exact problems I’ve had with the MCU for some time. Namely: gah, I am glad someone agrees with me about the ambling, aimless nature of what they’re doing right now! Bonus points for use of the word “mishegosh.” And “things slightly adjacent to what I want” is hilarious.
On the Marvel Legends front, boy it is hard to admit that the Legends team isn’t at fault for everything, isn’t it? I’ve been petulant ever since they announced the AOA wave in 2019 (which I still hold was a mistake). It drove me nuts after watching that interview to admit that I had to be mad at bureaucracy, not the ML team, for the lack of Guardians 3000 figures. That said, we wouldn’t have this problem if the character selection was more in-line with fan demand. I’m going to conclude by borrowing someone else’s words to summarize my opinions. Here’s a Fwoosh post that highlights my problems with the line: “It can go both ways. I get that there are a lot of people who are happy to expand the cast of characters for their comic universe shelf, I am one of these people to a point. These 2 are deeps cuts that I've never read a comic they've been in, and I don't find them to be visually engaging enough to be excited about putting them on my shelves. At this price point, they are even less likely to sell to casual collectors (people looking for more well-known characters) which will not reflect well in sales and hurt future chances of such obscure characters being made. This is where the price increase will really hurt a sub-set of collectors who are anxious to get these D-listers, only to see them sit largely unsold and give retailers pause about ordering waves with lesser known characters in the future. If things continue in this direction, some folks better hope to get their favorite D-lister now, as I don't see it being sustainable the way inflation is going.” Edit: for the record, the “brand confusion” comment originated earlier, but has been reiterated ad nauseam because, as evidenced by this thread, it got people interested in specifics. I believe it started when they announced Falcon, explaining that they were unable to make him for years due to a contractual request from their licensors not to produce comics versions of secondary MCU characters. |

Hasbro has been doing better, and I hope the ML line survives. I say this because it’s seems many collectors, including myself, are seeing many cases where the line fell asleep at the whee or could have easily done better on the figures no matter who was in the board room making the decision. For example, Siryn! What a missed opportunity on her!
Note: I almost got her, but from my angle, she felt Incomplete to me, so I left her on the peg. |

The people who felt underwhelmed with the AOA wave, much less two of them, would probably really dislike the fact I feel there's at least another wave's worth, if not a wave and some 2 packs, I'd like to see. We have none of the Horsemen from that storyline except for Nemesis, who is in need of an update and for the fact that that wave was so hard to find. Quicksilver, Storm, Nightcrawler, Deadman Wade, Gambit, Havok, would all be welcome, and I'd personally also like to see Mystique, Damask, Dazzler and Bishop (who is so underrepresented in wishlists for this storyline, if not for him the timeline would never have reverted back, he's very key to this story.) Exodus, Banshee and Angel would also all be neat but I'm not that chuffed if we don't get them, even with Banshee being a key character in that book. And all that doesn't get into much of the casts from Generation Next, Gambit & The Externals and X-Man. Hell, we don't even have any from the Gambit and X-ternals or X-Calibre books yet. |
