What I hate are waves that have a BAF I want badly but only 1-2 of the regular figures, like this Bonebreaker wave was. I'm still not sure if I want to keep Darwin, Maggot, and Vulcan. The Krakoa wave was weird. While I was reading Dawn of X, I really started to want the figures from that wave (sans Moira, since I already got her), but the moment I read X of Swords, I was relieved I didn't because damn did that book suck. I haven't even started Reing of X yet. |
Just noticed on the main front page of toyark there's a new Age of Apocalypse statue of Bishop. maybe its a sign that we just might get a Marvel Legends AOA Bishop next year in the 3rd Age of Apoclaypse build a figure wave?
after all we finally did get Cyclops, Colossus and Kitty Pryde this year. |

The AOA waves also pegwarmed hard in my area, which just brought back terrible memories of a few choice waves of DC Universe Classics. Glad for those who did want them though! It’s a great feeling to get unexpected characters/ figures that you’e always hoped for. *note because tone is hard to inflect over these posts, there is no hint of irony there. I was genuinely ecstatic when Razorback was announced, recognizing fully that he is the definition of a “wasted slot” to many. |
Any sightings of the Controller BAF wave, yet??
Way too excited for that female SHIELD agent body! :D |

I do a lot of complaining, but truthfully, this Hasbro team is pretty awesome in what they've given me as a collector and an old-man comic fan. Sure, there are things I still want, there are also numerous instances in which they come so close that the failure to deliver feels intentional, but my grousing is mostly from being spoiled by them. As far as the MCU is concerned, it was always going to be hard to follow their first act. The Avengers, at some point, have stories everyone loved. I accepted pretty early on that I'm not exactly who Feige was/is aiming for because I'd never be satisfied with 40 plus years of readership under the belt. I became more disgruntled as the animated features worsened and my only options were Planet Hulk (which still had licensing stuff) and Hulk VS. At least I could feel invested in the animated side of things, but now even that's gone. And thanks for the compliment about being 'Lee-esque', I'm definitely more pulp/pop culture influenced than I am by classical prose...Stan changed so many of us for the better. The killer was the presser they held after Planet Hulk, the most ambitious project, at the time. They talked licensing issues, but shared their upcoming Hulk Vs and discussed plans for Annihilation. However, something must have happened internally as projects apparently were shelved and everything slowed then stopped. As far as the comparison to DC, originally, Marvel's animation efforts couldn't hold a candle to them. But, then Dwayne McDuffie died and DC, I believe, brought over the guy that was responsible for the Marvel cartoons and DC's offerings have been hit or miss since. |
DC lost me with their animated movies when they started doing everything based in the animated New 52 universe. Flashpoint was the last movie I truly enjoyed. THat's also when DC turned every animated flick into Batman's Babysitting Services. He had no business being in JL Dark and was the worst thing about the movie.
I did learn they've done more Showcase shorts though, so I would love to check those out at some point. |
When Dwayne McDuffie died, DC's 'toons lost their luster. He was a writer that worked on a number of projects, but, germane to the subject, most notably for Justice League animated, JLU animated, JL - Crisis on Two Earths, JL - Doom, and All-Star Superman. Outside of Teen Titans, Flashpoint and Red Hood that was everything 'toon heads were raving about at the time. Don't quote me, but I think shortly before he died he'd taken a role supervising all of DC's animated efforts. Shortly after his death, there was a precipitous drop in the quality of writing for DC's works.
The first DC Showcase was fantastic. |
Completely agreed TBM! The offerings were sub par without McDuffie. I have said for years that the two companies could learn something from each other in the way DC handled animation (until recently) vs Marvel's handling of live action.

Agreed, he is missed and I feel exactly the same way about reciprocal lessons to be learned if Marvel and DC had looked at the way their opposite number handled live action and animated universes. |

To one of your other points, I am so happy to see someone else galvanize Dwayne McDuffie as the immense talent that he was. Those cartoons were my gateway drug into comics, particularly JLU. His episode “To Another Shore” sticks out to me as some of the best writing (not TV, not comics, *writing*) I’ve ever encountered. The heart and hope that he brought to the DC Universe is to me the essence of comic book heroes. |

Dwayne McDuffie is a legend in my book for his on point letter to Marvel alone. That said, Milestone had some similar tropes, but Hardware (damn cool character) and Icon (even with his conservative ass) more than made up for the Tech-9's (who was only really annoying for his name, the character's personality was cool). I was impressed that DC gave Dwayne the creative space to make a bunch of characters that appealed to communities of color and embraced them into DC proper, if only, via some trial crossovers to test the waters. |

While those you listed are far from my favorites, I am a sucker for cosmic characters. However, as I elected not to back Galactus and will not pay aftermarket prices those will remain out of reach. In my case, if Hasbro ever elects to finish the 2008 Guardians roster, I will most likely bow out of Legends altogether. The animal sculpts from Classified (granted there is likely no cross-brand movement with sculptors) give me hope that a quality Cosmo could be produced in the future. As I recall, you are a big Surfer fan. I will be curious to read your thoughts on the included figure. |

So, the Chester Cheetah comparison is actually funny, because when the figure came out, I maintained that Tigra should be less “Cheeto” orange and more “Goldfish cracker” orange. I was hoping for her to have a different head/ hair as well.
And of the heralds, they’re another goofy example of my character selection quibbles: more heralds is something I’ve been hoping for since I started collecting. And then announce a whole bunch, but leave out my boy, Air-Walker! … I really thought we’d get him before Morg and Fallen One, but here we are! :P |

Also if we're getting Heralds of Galactus I'd love an Aunt May. She's one of my favorite heralds. Big shout out and thank you to Black Arbor by the way. It's because of him I'm getting my Galactus.

Riot and Agony will be coming in a box set with Venom on the Omega Red body.
