1) Intended to go to SDCC anyways, picking up the figure to resell will just offset their expenses.

2) Buy any and all figures they can from various lines as a purely economic outing, time at SDCC is purely work.

These kinds of people take advantage at the fact that there are collectors for this stuff.

Its not people like you or I going over to SDCC and pick up an extra set to sell on eBay for double the price.

there is no service these people are providing to us.... they're merely making a nice profit all of us who want some of these hard to get tidbits.

hitman2099 06-08-2015 05:38 PM

A lot of people here were talking about ticket prices, parking prices, time spent, carrying product around, etc. Honestly its too much work sometimes to only profit $80 on a resell, I dont envision most of these people just profitting from one item.

don't quote me on that for sure but i recall ticket prices were cheap... i was considering heading over to the SDCC this year from florida. i decided against it due to the fact that the plane ticket and what not would have cost me an arm and a leg.

I highly doubt anyone going to this event only makes a few cents more on the item they sell. they end up making one hell of a profit depending on what items they try selling and just how hot that toy or collectible is.

i know i keep mentioning it in this thread, but a friend of mine is going this year. im already making a list of what i want he claims he will ATTEMPT to get me what i want. people whom make a living on rapeing others well it's just not right....

I'd say most of the SDCC re-sellers are people who already live locally and are aware of the exclusives... they may even collect one line. So they might go and buy the Star Wars exclusive for themselves then max out on all the other exclusives to flip. Just like how Hot Wheels guys will buy that ML Daredevil figure they know they can flip on eBay even though they don't read comics or collect that line - they just keep an eye on what's coming out and what's hot to fuel their own collecting.

I know it's a contentious issue we're discussing here, but comparing being charged extra for some figures to being raped isn't a great comparison, nor a very ethical one.

So I saw some pictures of the GotG 5 pack and why does Gamora have a cloth cape on the front and a rubber one on her back? It just looks butt ass ugly that way. It should have been rubber all around.

Fully agree

I can't help but wonder if it has something to do with her costume. Perhaps it was included to cover her up? I really don't know. She won't be wearing it once I get my set.

I think the cloth is just meant to cover her since she's half naked. I don't think anyone will have it on her for display

Is it worth getting for you? I'm almost tempted to cancel that pack...

I'm really only buying it for Groot and Gamora. The Star Lord and Drax might become custom fodder. And the Rocket... well I guess someone has to guard my desk at work haha

That's a term that many use.... let's not get overly sensitive here. i never realized we had people like that on this forum. especially a toy forum at that.

Well, aside from it possibly being offensive/insensitive to some people, "rape" would imply being forced into something, and no one is forcing you or other collectors to buy something at a price you don't agree with. If you want something for list price, you either put in the work to get it at SDCC or go through HTS. It that doesn't pan out, then it's either the secondary market or none of these figures in your collection. All of these are voluntary on your part, so regardless of your terminology, you're the one with all the options in this scenario (unlike a victim of the act).

not necessarily.... some people are forced to buy something at an outrageous price due to the fact that they desire it so badly. would i myself do so ? not at all, but numerous people on this entire forum have bad mouthed sellers for doing this act so many times. i would call it rape.

While it's a crime and audacity of doing something like that to a person, common sense would tell someone im not implying anything to THAT nature.

Lol.. man, I don't really know how to reply to this without it seeming like I'm attacking you, so I'll just let it be.

maybe you should lighten up and just get back on topic... i wasn't attacking anyone, i merely made the statement because it's true. i never blew alot of cash on a figure because i felt it just wasn't neccessary for myself. i have however read throughout this forum that others have, and they also were cursing the fact that the scalpers ripped them off.

I think he did lighten up by saying he'll leave it alone. Your reading his comments the wrong way. He didn't say you were attacking anyone.

As for this issue. If some buys something because they are forced to. They really need to get out of the hobby.

I would say patience is the name of the game but when it comes to SDCC stuff it pretty much seems like the best offer you get is directly after the con. Prices only seem to rise and never drop off.

I want that 2012 X-Force set BAD! But I fear it's way beyond what I'm willing to pay at this point. I should of bought it when I saw it for $150.

ultraman zoffy 06-09-2015 01:19 PM

Yeah, sorry if it seemed like I was taking shots at anyone, but I figured replying would make it seem like I was taking the discussion really seriously (which I can't seem to do when picturing some profusely sweating dude who can't stop his hand from clicking the "buy it now" button for some overpriced figures... lol). Buying something overpriced out of desire is still a choice... it's just a bad one. =)

Guilty..... I blame the booze.

Here are a couple of lazy and easy customs to make with the new figures out and about on the shelves.

Nice Byrnes... since the Legends line is primarily repaints nowadays, I could see these ending up as "official releases" at some point. That Dazzler jacket is on point.

That's what I say when I saw the MP-10 Bape Prime on Ebay as well, although his price point was 350. Thankfully I scored one from a local board member at a reasonable price point! How much is the X-Force set now?

I don't mind repaints that much. They could do these as well as Polaris, Havok, Multiple Man, New Mutants and Alpha Flights guys pretty easy.

Just grabbed the 5" Toybiz Cyclops/Jean 2 Pack for the jacket. Good fit for Legends

$280 on Facebook pages and $400 on Ebay is what I'm seeing.

And for some reason the Thunderbolts set is getting up there in the $300 range.

The Thanos set seems to be staying under $200. Not sure why I love that set. I guess others don't as much.
