@Comedian

You're only running out of space because you display them well! I like how you try to re-enact some of the movie scenes.

You even still have the ToyBiz FF and X-men movies figures on display, I still have mine as well. And is that the ultra hard to find Iceman there? I found him quite by accident during one of my business trips way back when. Didn't even know he existed.

Robb 01-16-2023 04:19 PM

What's up guys? I have been trying to sell my collection. I just posted some things in the BST. Please take a look.

@Comedian

Thanks for kinder words than I deserve. It does sadden me to read what you wrote about the hobby. It’s sad because it’s true and I’m feeling similar in my own take on whether this all is worth it in the grand scheme.

I think based on the current reveals and reception that the majority of collectors feel this way.

I just told my friend that what took the wind from my sails in my 3.75" collection was that Hasbro was making inferior products with an increased cost and most of the releases were figures I had already made a custom of. Now fast forward almost a decade later and I have these weird feelings of; Do I need updated legends that are pinless? Do I need to replace my spider-man figures with the retro line? Do in need to get updated versions of every lightning collection ranger? The obvious answer is no, but then I feel like what's the point in looking forward...

I will always find joy in toys, but I am losing interest in the lines that truly opened the door for my collecting habits

Thank you. And yes, it is Bobbie. I just looked up eBay prices….ouch. I found him for $3 at a Kay-Bee Toys discount store in Niagara Falls…….20 years ago?? Or so. They had a dozen or so as I remember. Maybe more. With that he deserves to be up front now. Those figures are still not bad. Yes the articulation is a bit…..ugly? In spots, but the likenesses were not bad at all for the time.

Yes, They were pretty good for their time. Before the days of internet, (now everyone know everything that's coming out months ahead of time), Bobbie were made right before ToyBiz canceled the line, so he went straight to Kay Bee Outlets. A vital piece of the ToyBiz Xmen collection that most didn't even know existed! (hence the current high price). I also have the "braless" Jean and Storm, you'd NEVER see toys like these today! Ha ha.

Seeing that Hasbro live action X-men/Deadpool/Wolverine section in the bottom corner still shocks me... cannot believe we got those figures from Hasbro. I mean I knew we would get figures for their eventual MCU X-men movies... but to go back and get some of those older figures still seems unreal. Just too bad it looks like they have stopped with just those ones though... well until Deadpool 3 anyway. I wonder how much interest any Hasbro versions of the Jessica Alba era F4 figures would get.

Just received an email from Pulse saying the War Machine repaint of Modular Iron Man will be shipping soon. Their site still has a January 24th ship date.

Spyne98 01-20-2023 08:56 AM

I got that War Machine email too.
To speak to what was being said earlier, I do love collecting toys. I really do. But the recent price increases are hitting the old wallet hard. It has me wanting to cut back, but not back out. I keep looking at my shelves like "do I need any more figures from this area?" Or thinking that I could sell a chunk of figures and be done with that character area. It's a hard decision to make. But, if collecting starts feeling like a burden, financial or mental. it might be good to back out. I know I have a lot of fear of missing out type feelings, and that's hard to process at times. I'm still sorting myself out with this, but I would love to talk about it with anyone if they need an ear. Gotta look out for each other, right?
Happy Friday!

Agreed I have been thinking about that with my MCU shelves.

TheBlueMarvel 01-20-2023 11:57 AM

The prices, while dismaying, aren’t really what irritates me. I expect things to cost more over a decade (10 years since RoML, 20+ Legends in general) of patronage. What I find less than palatable is what we are getting for the price tag. I’ve said a few times now that I’m ok with increased and deluxe pricing provided you give me more in tooling and accessories.

GizmoTron 01-20-2023 03:07 PM

I think everyone needs to personally take the same look at that their collection and just decide what their endgame is.

Because no one else can tell you what that is. Especially not Hasbro, they're gonna keep making toys with or without you, and will happily keep dragging their feet on your wish list while dicking longterm collectors around by putting out more wrong versions of characters and $35 basic Spideys instead. It's up to everyone instead to decide when it's their time to say "thanks but no thanks" and walk away.

StuartGreen2019 01-20-2023 10:12 PM

@GizmoTron - Personally speaking, I don't have a endgame and I never have. If it looks good and if it's a character I want, I buy it. It's that simple. Granted, I am a lot more selective on who I want to buy due to price and/or shelf space, but I just can't see myself ever stopping.

P.S. I turned 40 on Wednesday. You know what that means -- I now qualify for the senior citizen's discount! ;)

And that's fine for your personal endgame, I think most collectors will follow that same slow down pattern. The "end" doesn't have to mean "won't buy anything else ever again" and quitting cold turkey, just an end to the elements of more active collecting.

Also happy birthday! You're officially now a member in the "old man shopping in the toy aisle" club.

Eqsy two pack tiara, puffy pirate shirt classic luke cage & high Collar classic ironfist. I men how easy is th8s hasbro? Plus with a slight retool iron fist could be steel serpent and a comic purpleman for luke cage ( admittedly not familiar with luke cage baddies )

ThorOdinson123 01-21-2023 06:05 PM

I am surprised Hasbro hasn't done a Jane Foster Valkyrie yet from the comics. I'd like that . I hope they do Runa the Valkyrie one of these days from the newer comics.

It’s baffling that we haven’t seen this two-pack yet. The Steel Serpent thought occurred to me too. He has the potential to make a really fun figure, some awesome diorama posing could be done with him fighting Iron Fist. Most of Luke Cage’s baddies are too obscure/ not toyetic enough/ require too much tooling to be feasible. I feel like some version of Chemistro has the best shot, since he could share some parts with the High Evolutionary.

You got X-Force Wolfsbane listed, don't you mean 90s X-Factor Wolfsbane?

Archangel 01-21-2023 09:54 PM

Money getting tight with all these price increases, and running out of space. I’m close to ending my Black Series collecting. I’m probably done with McFarlane unless it’s just irresistible. I’m on Joes and Legends, with the latter seeing me skip releases more and more.

Collecting Joes and Legends makes you realize how much you’re getting screwed as a Legends collector within the same company. Classified figures are just loaded with accessories, great sculpts, and articulated as heck. You’re lucky to get an accessory and an extra set of hands with the latest Legends figures.

I’m probably going to put some stuff up for sale pretty soon. The man cave looks more like a storage building than a place to hang out.
