On a side note: the disappearing ab crunch is troubling and a few of the showcased figs may not have them. I’m curious to see if the Rose and Aunt May have the joint after seeing that Ock doesn’t. Of course, May doesn’t really need one. I hope the bendy tentacles are worth it to those that wanted them because the immediate tradeoff is reduced articulation for Otto and May. |

Trust me, I am over the moon with glee that we're finally getting a new animated series Doctor Octopus. Considering how badly Toy Biz dropped the ball with the animated Doc Ock figure (and I say this as a massive Toy Biz collector/defender) and how the 1995 McDonald's Happy Meal toy for Doc Ock looked lightyears better by comparison, I am grinning from ear to ear over getting this new Doc Ock. My only gripe was that we're not getting an alternate head for Doc Ock and that the bendable wire tentacles haven't already been made. So much for Ryan Ting's "sounds expensive" remark about bendy wire tentacles in a previous interview video, which I believe was done with ShartimusPrime a year or so ago. While I'm glad these tentacles are compatible with the previous Doc Ock figure, this doesn't do me any good, since I missed out on the Silk and Doc Ock two-pack and can't afford to shell out $82 for Amazon's current price listing to get one. On the subject... Quote:
That said, I will take full responsibility and happily take the blame! I also fully accept the blame for anyone who wants an Armani suit Doc Ock figure, because I certainly still do. Doctor Octopus is, always has been and always will be my favorite Spider-Man figures, so the more Doc Ock figures, the happier I am! (And I mean DOCTOR OCTOPUS, not Superior Spider-Man or Superior Octopus. I've never been a fan of what was done with Doc Ock in recent years.) Since we're getting bendable wire tentacles at last for this figure, I fully expect Hasbro to re-use them, unlikely as that may be, if and when an Armani suit Ock figure gets made by Hasbro. While I wasn't expecting much of abdomen movement for Doc Ock, considering his tentacle harness sticks out of his back on the series, the lack of abdomen crunches in recent figures is disappointing, as is, as I've said, the lack of alternate heads for Doc Ock and Aunt May. Considering a lot of recent figure reveals have alternate hands and not heads, that's worrisome to me for the line, considering if one head sculpt doesn't look as good, fans had a second to use. Having different facial expressions with alternate heads also made it fun and seeing it being used less in new figure reveals is underwhelming. Some figures should have alternate heads with different expressions and/or a "secret identity" civilian head for the characters, like a Peter Parker head for Spider-Man, an Anthony Stark head for Iron Man, and a Scott Summers head for Cyclops and an alternate head for his optic blast accessory. (Yep, I'm taking the blame for this too -- seriously, why are we getting more new Cyclops figures without an optic blast accessory?) As a side note, I love the new upcoming "Avengers" figures. Iron Man looks great, though the Erik Masterson Thor looks kind of off and unfinished to me somehow. I can't put my finger on what's wrong. The Bruce Banner and Hulk two-pack, the Hawkeye with Sky Cycle, and Black Widow figure are all must-buys for me. And the Doctor Doom and Captain Marvel two-pack has me hopeful we'll see a "Secret Wars" Retro toyline in 2024 for its 40th anniversary. It'd be a great way to see figures for Captain America with a shield without holes in it, Cyclops, Rogue, She-Hulk, classic Thor, Iron Man with an alternate Jim Rhodes head, classic Doctor Doom, the Absorbing Man, Titania, Volcana, the Wrecking Crew and a non-exclusive figure for the Lizard. |
Glad to see you're here. I agree with much of your points. Maybe we'll get another Doc Ock/ Aunt May comic set based on the "Sugar Granny" storyline.

I didn't want another Ock and I won't be buying the animated for the bendy wires because I bought a custom last year when they said the wires would be too expensive to integrate. See that, Hasbro, you messed up with your silly coyness; always shoot straight, candor and transparency win business. The custom has actual corrugated metal tentacles made from adjustable arms used for book lamps. The effect is pretty satisfying (that’s why I bought it), and the arms have a rich metallic luster. Once I went that route, anything Hasbro was going to do became irrelevant. In any event, congrats, you're batting a high average with your Spidey wants as it regards what Hasbro makes – I believe the redone Sandman, Hammerhead, redone Shocker, and redone Ock have all been requests you’ve made. I’d be jealous if not for Blue Marvel, Morg, Firelord, the Fallen One, FA Captain Marvel/Photon/Spectrum/Pulsar/whatever and, kinda, sorta, Luke Cage - I understand what they were shooting for with the deep plunging shirt and sculpt aesthetic, I just am not happy with the disappearing ab crunches. |
Well damn, I missed the reveals for the Avengers 2 packs a few days back. I'm really late to the party! Will be getting both I think - definitely the Sersi/Black Knight one. I know I'm in the minority here, but I'm so glad that we're getting the black/red outfit. I always thought the green swimsuit looking outfit was a horrible design, and if we'd gotten that first, I'd still want to get the red/black outfit. THis way though, no interest in any alternate comic Sersi figures should we ever get any.
I know at least TBM and I will be happy with this choice lol. Less impressed with the Captain Marvel/Doom pack, but will likely get it as well. I realize the design for that would be tricky with the cape/sleeves thing, but I'm also not really thrilled with the overall mold. Still, we won't get another shot at this figure I'm sure, so I'd rather have this than nothing of that design. Closing in on my "needed" comic Avengers now, just a handful to go- Crystal is so overdue it's not even funny (true to 90's looks I'd rather the grey/white/black outfit than her classic yellow but I'd take either), Living Lightening, Swordsman and of course Justice (duh). Moondragon and Stingray I'm less wanting but could see me buying. What we really need are some more B and C list Avengers villains.....but ya'll know at this point I could go on for a looooooong time about those. |
If they're going to do a Crystal figure, it needs to be her Fantastic Four Inhumans version with the yellow and black dress.

The one thing with Fantastic Four figures, I'm thrilled we got a few new characters out of the retro series beyond the 4, Doom, Surfer and Superskrull, but we need more...Crystal, Wizard and Attuma for instance, but there's so many others that they could go with. Red Ghost, Trapster...the character that shall not be named (P.M.) maybe next time around or for the movies. |

I'm totally down for the Banner/Hulk set. I passed on the last grey Hulk, like an idiot. Even then I knew they'd roll that mold out another 5-6 times, at least. Now here we are. The new head looks great, too. Monica's Captain Marvel has been one of my most-wanted, non-X-Men-related characters for a few years, now. I'm not crazy about how they did the wings/cape either, but I want the character/costume enough to overlook it. It'd be nice if Doom came with an alt unmasked head (a la Secret Wars #11), but it's unlikely. Still, this one is a definite buy. Sersi looks awesome, so I'll probably pick this set up. That's not the BK I was hoping for, but I have no version of the character at all right now, so he might have to do for a while. I'll get the Sky Cycle, too. At this stage of my Legends collecting, my eyebrows raise over any kind of mid-size vehicle or set piece to help liven up the displays a bit. |

I won’t get you started, but, yes, at this point, the absence of Nefaria and Graviton is galling, but the time is likely nigh with Hasbro being forced to dig into the canon well while these films are flagging. Time for them to cater a bit more to the comic side of the business. Quote:
EDIT: Sorry about itemizing your points, there’s a lot here that I want to respond to… Quote:

I definitely agree we should get Crystal in her yellow suit, that red and black Sersi could easily lead to her black and white costume from that Era, we'd just need her clean shaved Herc to finish out that Avengers team

Edit: Additionally , while I'm happy for red and black Sersi, I do also want a green costumed version. I’m hoping for a canon Eternals boxset. I know the MCU had planned for another movie, but after the abysmal feedback it received (I didn’t think it was bad) I’m not sure we will see another Eternals movie. I really hope I’m wrong as I would love to be able to take some Eternals and ‘Galactic Storm’ themed photos. |
