I live in envy of your collection dude, where do you hear about the obscure variants? and can you take a close up of the two long hair winter soldiers? I wasn't aware of a second variant!

You're too kind bro, thanks! I sure will take closer pics tomorrow. You know where I hear about most variants?? Here at the ARK! I learned from Woodbeck and Wolvie to name a few but with friends like ProfessorHov and salsa4datas I've discovered new ones! That's why I love the ARK! I've read older threads that had so much good info here.

Packing mistakes and slight production changes in color, often due to die lots, aren't actual variants the company intends and most wouldn't consider a collection incomplete if they weren't there. At least packaging with reverse artwork or an upside-down figure is obviously intentional. I'm not saying they don't have value to some people but some of them are complete mistakes that no one would consider essential to having a complete factory collection.

I think it depends what level of collector you are, obviously if you open all your figures packaging doesn't matter to you, if your just out for the "obvious variants" IE Archangel, Havoc, Ultimate spidey, ECT. then your a basic completionist, but guys like Raph are scorched earth compleationist, I dig that shat! most folks would call that earlier E-bay auction complete, but they didn't have white shirt Luke, or the holly grail widow twins. and somewhere out there's an Ant man/Moon knight two pack and a Fin fang foom. Once you get all there is to get the next level collector has to start getting a little nuts to keep the game going, Hell I'm looking for Original card art, Mock ups, and prototypes, why because no one else is...

Very true! My one and only intention is to pass along (to all MOC ARKERS with OCD like me, lol) all I know about the MU toy line so that you don't have to go though all the trouble I did at the beginning of my collecting days. I have learned a lot but it took me years. Hopefully in 10 years from now, some kid will use this thread as a helpful tool!

No bro, I actually saw that listing a while back, I asked the seller for pics of both to see what was the difference but he never replied back. Which means it's probably not true. The one I need has black eyes and Woodbeck sent me pics of his.

Dissapointments IMO

Mockingbird (although I'm glad we got her)
Hawkeye
Cloak (dagger was a good figure, but they dropped the ball on cloak)
the first Iron Fist
Dr Strange (he looked like an 80s gay porn star)

And Psylocke!

Just getting hawkeye to hold his arrow is a biotch, but taskmaster is one of my favorites. I liked the hip articulation way better on the old female buck.
Now that you mention it dr strange even has an expression that says he is doing "gay for pay."

Lionheart 03-25-2014 08:58 PM

Hawkeye is a cool fig.

I like Dr. Strange - considering how bad some of the face paints have been in the MU line I think they did quite well with him. What bugs me is his spellcasting hands. I liked them at first, but that's all he can do - spellcast or pretend to make a phone call!

So tempted to buy Hulk from WB Collect but they'd have to unpackage it in order to ship it for free. I'd like to keep it on the card.

Damn I wish I could find it at a store already.

My MU X-Men could use an X-jet imo.

use one of the blackbirds from the 90s toy line

samsson37 03-26-2014 08:40 AM

Also a few weeks back one arker said that it was obvious that a certain character was in it, everyone else said that there is no that particular character was in it...... Well, there was one correct arker anyway.

So your saying red skull is in the movie?

ukmu 03-26-2014 02:28 PM

I didn't mention which side was right at all.... I can neither confirm nor deny said comment. Also, Fred Flintstone may or may not be in it as well.

It would be really rad not to read a bunch of spoilers in this thread

Keep telling that to yourself if it makes you feel better. I'm being honest, no collection is complete without them and that's just the plain truth wether you like them or not!

Don't know why it would make me feel better or worse. I don't collect MOC and I am not a completest in any way. I just don't wast money on figures or characters I don't like. You may not think it's complete but you are a special breed. I just know that most people that collect these lines do not consider packaging mistakes or paint variants they were not intentional or hardly noticeable essential to a complete collection of retail figures. Otherwise it would be impossible for more than a few people have complete MU collections because of non-retail stuff like those Cage and Widow figures. They are all cool and some are very valuable (others not so much) but they are really their own category, especially when Hasbro often doesn't realize they exist. Hardly any MU collector would lose sleep at night because they don't have a certain carded figure that is slight different because of production problems at the factory. A lot of us would like to have the unreleased Cage or Black Widow, but mostly because they are rare and unreleased. Had they been put out to retail many wouldn't care about them and if we all wanted them so badly the prices would have gone much higher when they hit ebay a while back.

I'm not saying that anyone is wrong for collecting the way they do and I'm not taking away from great collections that have those things. I'm just saying that most of us won't ever feel these things are important enough to pay for. Heck, some people can't bring themselves to pay $15 shipped for a $10 figure. Just look at it this way. If you want to sell a collection that has all the retail figures, official variants, and con-exclusives you will attract a certain group of buyers. If you want to sell a collection that had all the other stuff in it that most people don't care about or never made it to retail you will have a much smaller pool of buyers. The kind of people that would pay hundreds or thousands extra to get every little packaging mistake would most likely have a near complete collection to already. Look at Star Wars collecting. Some people work hard to get all the logo variants or $10,000 Boba Fett prototypes from the vintage figures but most don't. That division of interest is what makes them two separate things.
