And you don't have a pull set up with your LCS? I have a pull and they put all my comics in there weekly. They also order anything I need from Diamond and set it aside like MS or Minimates. Or in yesterdays case my FCBD T-Shirt :) Also just by having a pull I get like 15% off everything in the store

Ah ok, they do pull for me, but lately they've had new staff and I've miss out on a few issues, and now they have to try and get them for me. They did hook me up with the variant of AvX variant cover for issue #2 with Emma and Hulk on it.

I may have to do that. I showed up to the shop here and it was a nightmare. they were guarding the "free" comics and only let each person take one comic (total, not of each) instead of having them out for all to take. Then I thought I might buy some figures because they have all of them 20% off but the line to check out was 50 people long and only one cash register. They have 10 employees watching everyone and making sure no one steals stuff but they can't rent a second cash register or use a cash box? Or heck, check people out next door in the Anime store (which they own) that is completely empty. It's the one day of the year you get tons of people that may not otherwise come in. Huge fail.

Bought the Avengers combo for my little sis at the show today. It cost more than the tickets. :eeek http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17857818/photo(5).JPG

What theater?

DogFashionDisco 05-05-2012 03:50 PM

Wehrenberg, they had different characters on each cup. The one I bought had Stark and Banner.
Here is the Banner side.

This one I can actually explain why they only allowed one. These comics are technically not free. Apparently comic stores are still charged for them when they place the order. So that's probably why only one per customer to make sure everyone is able to get something.

My store has a similar policy. Hold slot gets to pick out 5 and non-slot members get to pick out 3.

FrankCastle 05-05-2012 04:04 PM

Yeah my new comic shop let us get 3 a person. Usually every year my old store would have 1 of every comic for pull customers. Oh well.

I do not know where you get your information, but on our packing slip all free comic book day comics are NO CHARGE to the store.

I don't know if it's changed recently but the stores don't actually pay for them. At least not like normal. They might pay like $.10 an issue and then they get tons of traffic and sell far more than any other day of the year. I think it works out well for them unless they can't handle the volume. Last year was the first year I ever saw where they didn't let you have one of each if you wanted. I think it was limited to 5 books but only allowing 1 is just nuts. They will have tons sitting around and since they can't sell them what are they going to do?

There were only three what I wanted to grab anyway. The main disappointment was that they had no way of taking people's money that didn't involve waiting in line for an hour. I went to buy some stuff and help support local business.

DogFashionDisco 05-05-2012 04:15 PM

I used to work for a company called Slackers in Missouri that literally kept a lot of their Comic Book Day and Record Store Day stuff and resold it later on, both through ebay and at their stores. They were some shady fuckers.....

What we do with all the left over comics is donate them to the childrens hospital.

I was in an adjacent town on business and took a little time to do some hunting at their Target on the way home. They were in the process of expanding and remodeling the store so there was a lot of stuff being sold at a discounted rate.

I ran across this Power Charge Rhino. It wasn't a great bargain at $5.00 but still better than paying $8.99-$10.99:

I was surprised to find the 30th Anniversary Sky Striker among the clearance items. It was being sold at $17.48. I'm not a big GI Joe fan but I've seen a lot of positive reviews about the Sky Striker on Youtube so I decided to buy it as I saw it still going for $35 last week at my local Target.
