Yeah, I'm at work and saw the email 40 mins after they sent it. All sold out. :/

In the Fwoosh review of Major Bludd, Robo mentioned that the GI Joe team will possibly address the Target issues in a future live stream around June. |

Check your Books-a-millions, if ya got any near. Spotted three Zartans and the obligatory Roadblock pegwarmer on the shelves of one store.

I hit up Walmart and Target looking for Lady Jaye and Flint. I noticed a huge line at Target and figured it might be for Joes. It looks like it was for sports cards. I saw two guys sprint through Walmart for something as well, I never saw them near the toys. Those sports cards collectors/scalpers are intense.

I saw two guys at the door in lawn chairs before they opened, so they had been there a while. I thought maybe PS5 as well, but when I saw what was going on at electronics with small boxes being sold, I figured it was cards or something. I should have asked.

Pokemon and Magic are in demand down here. It might be that too.
I was in Target a couple weeks ago and saw a group of guys waiting by the Pokemon cards while the vendor stocked them. And that was the day I found out that group and others follow vendors from store to store lol. I finally opened Zartan and Lady Jaye. I really like the ability to store accessories on a figure. It's nice to really deck them out instead of choosing what to display and put the rest away. |
Heard abouts Joes appearing in Walmarts lately so I hit up three stores without success. I've come to the conclusion that I'm done going out of my way with this line. I love the stuff I've gotten, but I've had to invest way more energy in it ever since I jumped in than I should have to. If I come across the figures or get preorders online, great. If not, then whatever.

Sports cards are on fire right now, it looks like 30 years ago in these stores with people lining up for product.
It's a good thing, too, because it has reminded places like Target that they actually have anti-scalper policies in place to enforce, and those will trickle down to regular toys like G.I. Joe and Star Wars, too. |
I stumbled across a Roadblock today. Naturally, it had to be the one figure I always have seen in stores, but at least he has better colors.

What they need to do with GI Joe Classified is what NECA is doing with the TMNT figures. Take pre orders themselves ( just like the Hellfire Club Guard) Make them to order and all is good. Yeah it might take time , but no hunting just waiting and they show up. Simple.

Then sell more Crimson Guards ala Hellfire Club Guards. |
They should re-release all the Cobra Island figs on retro cards like they did with the X-men Legends... complete with old school ARAH/25th style card art.
|
That all sounds good, but they don't want to anger the Target god. They give Target these exclusives to entice Target to support the line with retail space. Which is goddamn hilarious, when you think about it. How much has Target really gone in on this line? 1 case per store per "wave". I get that Target being mad at them might hurt their precious Marvel and Star Wars sales…at Target…but collectors buy them no matter where they are. Now, I don't hate Target by any means. But…if I was Hasbro, with all the industry clout that Hasbro has, I'd tell Target to go eat a bag of dicks.

Well this was surprising. The Target I found Roadblock at last week now have Roadblock, Scarlett, and Zartan today. I quickly snatched up the Scarlet. A shame there was no Flint, Jaye or the other repaints, but hey, at least it's something. Maybe they are finally fixing the stock issues.

Looks like 9 new Classified code names have been found in Target's system. Any thoughts on some of these?
Info's from over at HissTank: https://news.hisstank.com/2021/05/01...t-system-72794 |
Well, there's no way for us to know which characters these names reference. The closest connection I can make is that Amazon lists the name Scorpion on the movie Storm Shadow figure and there is a Scorpio on this list. There is a connection between some of the names so it's possible they were produced together and are part of the same line.
Europa is one of Jupiter's moons. Betelgeuse and Rigel are part of the constellation of Orion. Zenith refers to a point in the sky that is directly overhead. Scorpio is an astrology sign. However, there is a Scorpius constellation. Centauri could refer to Alpha Centauri which is the closest star system to Earth. However, there is also a Gamma Centarui which is part of the constellation Centaurus. There are also gamma rays and meteors all throughout space. If I had to guess, I would say that Zenith, Centauri, Gamma, Betelgeuse, and Rigel will all be together since they refer to constellations. Maybe this will be a larger assortment similar to what we saw with the Snake Eyes movie figures. Europa and Jupiter are most likely together since they're a moon/planet. My guess is they're probably a 2 figure update to either Cobra Island or regular Classified. These would be similar to the updates we've seen with the reveals of Lady Jaye/Flint, Firefly/Cobra Viper, and Zartan/Cobra Infantry where they only announce two figures at a time. Meteor and Scorpio are the odd ones since they don't quite fit in with the other two groups. My guess is that Meteor will be a store exclusive similar to the Arctic Storm Shadow. One could make the argument that Scorpio belongs in the larger assortment of figures. Scorpio could be similar to Baroness where it's part of a line but not a standard figure. That's my hot take on the code names. Maybe there's something there. Or maybe everything I wrote will turn out to be complete hog-wash and the Hasbro team just randomly chose names pertaining to outer space. |
In some non-rumor mill news, the redeco figures of Duke, Scarlett, and Roadblock are officially being called "Field Variants". They'll each get their own unique UPC and Hasbro code. Hisstank has them on their front page if you want to check them out.
https://news.hisstank.com/2021/05/03...ial-name-72800 Also, the GI Joe line is being absorbed by the team handling Power Rangers and Ghostbusters. Lenny Panzica, one of the Classified designers, will transition over to the new team (we saw him on the Joe portion of the Pulse Fan Fest). The team that has been working on PR and GB is headlined by John Warden. He's been with Hasbro for a number of years. From the comments section, he worked on GI Joe and Transformers during some of their better years and most people seemed excited for him to be involved again with GI Joe. |
Via Hasbro's GI Joe Twitter page, Major Bludd is officially revealed/acknowledged by Hasbro. However, Bludd's official release date won't be revealed until June. According to TNI, Hasbro wants June to be a big promotional month for GI Joe. TNI also reports that Bludd should start hitting Target stores around May 19 but will have to be kept in the back until June.

I wonder if the registers will be locked or if that is just a suggested unofficial street date of June by Hasbro. IMO Bludd would be Zartan levels easy to find if he wasn't an exclusive. Watching toy vids a lot of people are just buying up the Cobra Troopers and leaving Zartan behind... especially at local toy shops. I am still 100 percent convinced that Cobra Vipers never made it to the peg at my nearest Target... pretty sure an employee hid them from other employee so no one could stock them and then they all just disappeared from the inventory counter one day.
