Last picture those Super Friends figures, I have wanted all of those for the longest time, they did a fabulous job on them, like right out of the cartoon.

They are awesome. I sometimes forget just how many figures they made in his style. Then I see my shelf...

Yeah, that's the Jae Lee one. Really nice figure. The Catwoman from the line is neat, too.

I agree! Those are some of my absolute favourites. Of course, I wish the line had twice the amount of figures in it. We're short some very important characters. The thing that is really missing for me, though, is a villain for Flash. Captain Cold would have been perfect.

Yeah. I knew about the Batman/Superman: Public Enemies and Batman/Superman: Vengeance figures because I have some of those figures, I didn't realize that DC Direct also did JLA Classified figures in his style too.

Nice MOTU pickups, and I love Defenders of the Earth! Have you been picking up the other ones in this line? I totally missed that Garax was announced, thanks to your post I went out and looked up what was new.

Thanks! Yeah, I have gotten all of the Defenders so far, just waiting on Garax.

From McFarlanestore? Or found them in the wild?

How is that TOYCOLLECTR** magazine? Pretty gutsy to make printed magazine again. I hope they'll do well. I still have my entire run of Toyfare magazines in the basement...somewhere...

**(that's the problem with printed materials, you can't correct the typos! Ha ha)

Yeah, from the McF store.

It is ok. I'm hoping it gets better. The idea of a print magazine, though, was more than I could resist.
I loved ToyFare! It's actually that magazine's fault I started collecting DC Direct (and ended up with 34 long boxes of comics). I first started collecting McFarlane's Tortured Souls. Slowly moved on to a few other horror type things and started buying toy magazines. Then…I bought the issue of ToyFare with the Jason Todd exclusive figure revealed. I had to find out why in the hell they were making a toy of a dead Robin. So, I started buying comics. And then the toys. I got very hooked on both, (if you can believe it). ToyFare has cost me tens of thousands of dollars!

ToyFare is exactly what came to mind for me when I saw they were publishing this (I actually just found a couple of my old ones, likewise loved that magazine!) "Twisted ToyFare Theatre" was one of my favorite features, though yes, it did spurn MANY purchase quests over the years. Particularly loving that Captain Cold figure.

I never really saw the appeal of most of the tortured souls line, the only figure from it I can look at without getting nauseous is the “censored” variant of lucidique.

Cyclopswc 09-22-2022 06:04 AM

Tortured Souls, well, pretty much all Clive Barker's stuff, aren't for most people.

As for toys, I blame Toyfare and the internet. Toyfare for making me aware there's such a thing as a "toy collecting community", and the internet for providing a way for me to buy stuff that I otherwise would have no knowledge it existed or ability to acquire.

SpasticPlastic 09-24-2022 06:14 PM

Tortured Souls still hold a special place in my heart, though, I can agree they are not for everyone.

Mostly DC Direct shelf #3.

Arachnid13 09-24-2022 06:25 PM

Wow that’s a lot of dcd!

I can’t believe how many rare figure I see in those pics, like Stephanie brown batgirl who skyrocketed in price and rarity.

I had a standing order at my LCS for any action figures DCD solicited, so I got everything as it released, hassle-free.

My Stephanie came with wonky eyes, but I didn't do anything about it. A few years later, I decided to get another one, but saw the prices. Yikes. I'll live with her looking like Marty Feldman, I guess.

I love those Batman Hush figures, I've been meaning to get the rest of them. Right now Riddler is the only one I have and I've had him for a long time. Also, it was a loose Riddler figure I found at Vintage Stock that's missing his hat and cane.

I love them, too. In fact, it was that line that got me into DC Direct.

Yeah. For me, it was the DC Direct Batman/Superman Ed McGinnis lines that introduced me to DC Direct. I like that they're sculpted to match the art style of the artist who drew the comic they're based on. However, I must ask, is it me, or are those early DC Direct figures extremely fragile over the summer I was gluing broken figures back together and I noticed just how many were DC Direct figures. In fact, when I got the Public Enemies Captain Marvel he was a loose figure I found at Vintage Stock and his legs were already glued back on by the previous owner. So I know I'm not the only one to find them fragile. I'm just curious if that's been your experience with DC Direct figures too.

Cyclopswc 09-26-2022 05:48 AM

Is that a Batman logo mirror?!?!

That is a HUGE Solomon Grundy! I didn't know they made that. Who is that big brown guy behind him?

The big brown guy is Clayface.

Sorry! Somehow I missed your question. I haven't had too many problems with breakages. I think some of the older ones used pins/ posts/ pegs that became quite brittle over time, but I rarely move joints around on my figures. I bet if I tried to now some may crumble to dust. When I moved into this house, I had everything crammed into totes (and stayed there for about 7 years), so I had a couple of female figures arms snap off at the elbow and a Man-Bat lost his head. Otherwise, I've had problems with the wrist peg/hinges on the "super-posable" classic Superman (and every figure after that used the same mold) breaking like crazy. Beyond that, I've only had a handful of instances where a figure falls off the shelf and breaks a limb or something.

Okay. That may explain a lot. Because of some of the DC Direct figures I've had since I was in grade school and play with them a lot. Also, I had destructive brothers as a kid. I'm surprised my Ed McGinnis Superman survived childhood only to break when adult me tried posing him for a display idea. Also, my Batman Hush Riddler's head falls off a lot. In fact, in Middle School, my mother and I were at a Vintage Stock and we found another Batman Hush Riddler that had his cane and hat we tried to buy that one and later sell the one we had to Vintage Stock. When we were heading to the counter his head popped off and we decided it wasn't worth it. I'd just keep the one I have.

Ran into some good luck in Target and came home to a zombie on a pony from Gamestop.

Arachnid13 09-28-2022 05:12 PM

Wow I didn’t even know they made a gold label ww and deathstroke, nice finds!
