That's what I need for my Widow, a sniper rifle.

Giant Man - This was the selling point to me and he does not disappoint, mostly. There are some nitpicks I have such as the joints they used for his waist/thighs are the same as those found on Hulk. The ones where you have to rotate them to either have them go forwards and backwards, or to the sides. Very annoying. They also forgot to fully paint the black on the left round piece just a tad. Other than that and a serious lack of being able to have him look up and down, he is awesome. Well worth getting this set over.

Goliath - He's cool. His gloves suffer the same paint issues as Hellcat's boots and Tiger Shark's body though. I know next to nothing about what his abilities are though since I've never seen Pym in this costume before. As such, I really can't do much with him picture wise.

4inch Pym - I remember now why I stopped collecting the 4inch line. He can barely stand up on his own without support and his articulation kind of sucks. It does what it is supposed to though, however, it would have been nice if they had given him alternate arms since he just looks weird in the lab coat with his helmet on. The tiny Ant-Mans are pretty cool for their size.

@Donmecca2020

Please, don't take what I'm saying as indication that I think there's greater value in digital comic collecting. I don't own anything but comics (the few I've left) and TPB's, so I wouldn't know one way or the other...

i understood you perfectly, you and a few others think the trend is dying. completely understandable as you see it nowadays with magazines publications that have been going outta business. it's all good, i didn't take anything the wrong way. let's carry on with our toy convos !!!

wolverine2281 08-03-2015 10:52 PM

anyhoo...if anyone picked up any extra Vishanti sets for the purpose of selling or trading please holler at me. I missed out like most people but I've got a buddy overseas that needs a couple. Plus I'd like to update my site with pics and scans

The current climate is not exactly a 'seller's market' and I'm glad I offloaded 2/3rds of what I owned years ago. Had I tried to do it now, I'd be doing it at a considerable loss or I'd still be waiting for things to sell years later...the craziest phenomenon is how much TPB's are going for these days. People seem to want to hold on to some tangible aspect of comic collecting, while having them in a format that's easier to store and access.

For the last ten years, trades are where I've made camp. Less space taken, easier to file, and besides, they look far nicer. Unfortunately others feel the same way, and TPBs (especially X-Men ones) that came out six years ago are now going for $70-80!

Nice! That sniper suits the Widow figure perfectly (how has she not used one in the movies yet?)

On a related note, if anyone was as disappointed as me regarding Valkyrie's lack of accessories/that crappy excuse for a sword, just throw some Lord of The Rings gear on her and she'll be ready to face Ragnarok in style!

I've been doing certain trades since they started to come out years ago. Things I couldn't get that I liked, such as Captain Britain Omnibus - Davis/Neary Jasper's warp stuff (oh, was I so excited to see the X-men fight the Fury in that New Age X-men book! - that team is arguably my favorite X-men squad), and the Miracleman (Marvelman) collections. I have been 'exclusive' on the format for only 7 years or so. That's when I decided comics had become too formulaic and poorly constructed. There was a blatant disregard for art/story/canon/continuity and the hobby was no longer worth my habitual $100-$120/week investment. And...yes, trades are being priced in an exploitative fashion now. Thank goodness, I had the foresight to buy TPB's of Samaritan - Annihilation - Annihilation:Conquest - Realm of Kings (in spite of owning the individual comics), because now the Annihilation sets are going for $200-$300, Samaritan is $100, and Realm is also $200 (and that's TPB's not hardcovers...gross)

Great pics and accessorizing! I'm so jealous of your Valkyrie and can't wait until my HulkBuster wave ships! The Ultron wave is in the mail, but not before I broke down and bought Tiger Shark from TRU! Literally, the day I bought Tiger Shark, I received notification (right as I got home) that BBTS filled my Ultron wave order...:o

It's a lot of work but I have a bit more space and all those comics on a drive and the cloud now instead of physically where they could be burned up, flooded, etc collecting dust or mold.

Now granted, the books I really enjoyed are the ones I did not scan. It was still over 2000 books, and most of them were books I just found I didn't even really care if I had them or not but I didn't want to lose them completely, either.

I'm currently at 4 long boxes of comics, one long box almost filled and 1 short box that's almost filled as well. i have been contemplating on selling on ebay and when december hits this upcoming year i'll be heading to the flea market.

I said it in my previous post, and i'll say it again now, where is the value or invest of just reading digitally? All my graded comics are worth a pretty penny... for whatever reason IF i were to decide to get rid of them i would walk away with a few grand. you can't say the same with digital comics.

Nice, I had 8 long boxes got rid of 5 at my LCS and got $300 in trade value for which I sold it to my nephew for $200 in cash....I'm sure if I actually took the time to see what ones I had that were worthy for Ebay to sell I maybe would have made more. But eh...time was of the essence.

That's the thing with seller's market. Whenever I went to FNS in LA, I would see these guys with tons of boxes selling comics, but the older stuff they would sell so cheap and I felt sad, just seeing them sit there with no customers...

Considering your still reading abit of modern stuff, do you have any idea how much Spider-Gwen's first appearance was going for last year and the beginning of this year? about $ 60 bucks for a ungraded copy and a graded 9.8 was fetching in the triple digits price range. i could go on and on about certain GRADED copper era comics now fetching in the $1k to $2K dollar price range. there still is a following. even if i were to sell ALL my comics for a buck a piece i would still walk off with my pockets more filled then just someone who's spending money on a digital volume of any title.

Like i said, im not knocking digital format for reading purposes but i am knocking it for there being no value at all coming back from it. i enjoy being able to pull my flash drive out with sumatra and start reading marvel comics presents, amazing spider man, incredible hulk etc...

I've never graded my comics just cause of time is the factor, but I'm sure a couple of mine would be worth pretty good $.

Back on topic, can't wait to get my Strange set...those images of that set looks great. Probably 2nd favorite to the X-Force set.

Ah yes the Captain Britain Omnibus! I wasn't born when Thorpe/Moore originally wrote their runs, so it was brilliant to experience the stories first hand, rather than reading recaps on the 'pedia. Are you by any chance referring to the Storm/Bishop/Cannonball/Marvel Girl/Nightcrawler/Sage team during Claremont's revamp? I too loved that mini-era! Sure, it didn't have the sophistication of Whedon and Cassaday's Astonishing, but it brought back the much-needed classic adventures vibe to the books. Rachel Grey creating a black hole to rid the team of The Fury? Excellent stuff! Now if only we could get a modern Bishop figure..

As for trades, I've seen how Annihilation has shot up! The titles which Marvel don't fully support are those which have high demand and, hence, soaring prices. Specifically I refer to the five-volume storyline "Childhood's End" in New X-Men, whose trades are four times as much as they should be. (they're worth every penny, mind you)

Cheers, mate! :D I'm giving a half-decent attempt now to photograph figures with a shred of dignity, rather than snapping obscenely poor quality shots. BBTS seems to be really behind recently, I can't recall them shipping the Odin wave out this behind schedule.. Oh, and very, very nice Magik/Blackheart photos that you posted earlier! Ingenious use of the black flames and beautifully posed, although recently Magik has utilised blue flames predominantly, so they would also look excellent for her. ;)

Dormmamu - The figure I bought the set for and from a sculpting point of view, he is absolutely fantastic. The only negative pertains the same issue Odin and Thanos have, the legs can not be moved worth a damn thanks to the skirt piece thing.

Hela - I did not realize this was actually Hell, so I am even more excited to have her now. I love the sculpt and the colors really pop. Unfortunately, she has the annoying waist/thigh balls that you have to rotate to move the legs forward/backwards or sideways. Nevertheless, she is probably my favorite of the set.

Brother Voodoo - Paint apps are great and the design is unique. The cape doesn't stay in too well though (I really need to figure out a way to get the capes to not fall out, as Odin and Sentry are having that issue too). Sadly, I don't know much about this character aside from he is like Papa Midnight, but for Marvel and he is not evil as his DC counterpart is.

Magik - My second least favorite figure of the set. The sculpt is fine, but the paint apps are sloppy. Her skin was not left fully painted on her wrist and on her chest. Her hair is cool looking, but it makes turning her head a pain in the ass. On the other hand, she can stand up and she is able to hold both swords. Still have no idea what we have an X-Men character in here though.

Astral Strange - The worst figure in the set and a total waste. Translucent figures are crap and this is no different. This should have either been a Classic styled Strange or Baron Modo. Oh, and his hex circle things don't stay attached like they do on Scarlet Witch.

Spyne98 08-04-2015 11:41 AM

Dr, Kain, I love your pictures! Bravo man! Those are great!

And that's the fickle nature of fan tastes. Strike while the anvil's hottest, because otherwise, you could be be sitting at a convention venue thumbing your nose. The saddest part is that the individuals you mentioned may have paid good money to sit somewhere and make no money. There are other venues to sell your wares, like eBay or Craigslist. However, eBay listing is a full-time job in itself if you have even a modest collection (which says volumes -pun intended Ha! - about moving sizable collections). And Craig's List is just as likely to put you in touch with customers as it is to put you in contact with thieves, murderers, or thieving murderers!

I visit 'antiquing' warehouses, and I actually run into many comics and TPB's. I've never seen anything that I really want (I did get an Iron Man: Demon in a bottle TPB) at them, but they are in these venues from time to time.

Forgive me, I mistyped Davis/Neary...I tend to lump them together because I've thoroughly enjoyed so much of their art in both Marvel and DC over the years. My favorite Captain Britain run was the Davis/Delano stuff. I've always dug Marvel UK characters (Death's Head, not so much). Not just Marvel, but the wider world of 70's and 80's super-hero/sci-fi pulp that has come from the U.K.

Yes, that was the team to which I was referring. I've heard the comparative criticisms between that run and Joss and John's Astonishing run from buds of mine. I agree, but I also think it's a bit unfair to compare them. Claremont and Davis' run seemed as though it was meant to be a stop-gap and an experiment with off-brand X-men (almost like a "B-side" album). Few books can be compared to Astonishing, it launched a new direction for the title and was meticulously crafted (pair 'perfect' writing with 'perfect' art) from the onset. As for New Age, I just loved that team of X-men ...and I didn't do the X-23 mini, so that was my formal introduction to the character. In ways, it felt like Kitty's story revisited, except this young female ward could (and would) disembowel you. She wasn't delicate, at least not physically...although, she did have a great deal of emotional vulnerability that would be explored more deeply in subsequent story-lines.

Yes, my Odin wave arrived about as late as these current waves. Not to start a conspiracy, but I truly believe Hasbro is giving preferential treatment to brick and mortar in order to raise traffic for storefront retailers.

Thanks, I think I'm all flamed out now! My next whatever's will be sans flames...I think! ;) Thanks for the tip on the current state of Magik's flames...I was going more for 'hellish eruption' than specifically any power manifestation. That said, I thought her flames were white and yellow initially? I still have her original mini and all of that Darkchylde stuff, but I'm far too lazy to break it out...Damn would I love a Belasco fig!

Very sweet, photo, poses and custom! I think Bendis gets bored at times (like anyone) and that is what has people throwing stones. As fans, we need to cut people a break. We all are human and have ebbs and flows as it pertains to our work and temperament...

I've never graded my comics just cause of time is the factor, but I'm sure a couple of mine would be worth pretty good $.

Thing being with LCS, they're looking to get all of someone's good for pennies.... anybody's best bet in selling is of course Ebay.

I felt the same way originally about grading comics, and i also originally thought the idea was stupid. after i found out that they significantly raise the value that's when i got into it. your best bet go to a convention Submit to CGC,CBCS,PGX or whomever. However CGC is considered the Gold Standard.

Not everything is worth spending the money to grade, you just have to know, and it's not really that expensive to do neither.

i will tell all of you this.... IF you EVER plan on buying a old comic that's fetching a pretty penny, i would suggest buying it graded. you would never catch me buying a big money book ungraded after all the stuff i learned the last 2 years.

Sigh....do not get me started on that. Some of my favorite arcs but I just cannot justify the price for the TPBs.

@Dr Kain
Awesome job with the pics!

Nice! That sniper suits the Widow figure perfectly (how has she not used one in the movies yet?)

I have NO idea, hopefully we'll see her wield one in Cap 3! PS: That Valkyrie mod looks wicked!!

Translucent figures aren't always bad, I think it depends more on the line/company than on the translucent plastic itself.

agreed, I mean look how well they did ghost riders fire they kinda translucent ... but if your talking about something like er Invisible woman or something i think it adds an awesome effect to displays i think the movie one had 3 figures , solid , 50-50, indivisible translucent.
But if it comes to something Astral it can work.

The SDCC set shows that Hasbro can make good box sets, they just do NOT want to. Even Guardians was somewhat okay, minus the crappy racoon. Sadly those were ALL excessive repaints.

THe SDCC Vashanti Set was tooled so well.

Plus translucent figures almost always look fantastic under black light.

I'd love a translucent Emma Frost in diamond form on one of the newer bucks. I'd also love a plain Emma Frost on one of the newer bucks...
