For teams like the FF - I totally understand. But for solo characters like Daredevil and Spider-Man or teams that have rotating rosters like the X-Men and Avengers, I think it's far, far more subjective even without considering gender preferences.

For example, when I was a kid, I was just fine with DD hanging with Spider-Man and fighting whoever else I had in the room at the time. The only interest I had with Elektra was when I read Frank Miller's run on Daredevil when she first appeared and died shortly after. I thought the story was amazing (and made Bullseye a badass in my eyes), but it didn't make me want a toy of Elektra - another minor supporting character who was now dead in the comics - any time soon. It wasn't until well after I grew into an adult that she got a lot more exposure and became a popular character in her own right.

Btw, Maria Hill was created in 2005, so there was no Maria Hill when I was a kid. There was barely a SHIELD back then. I know of her now and I'm a huge fan of Cobie Smulders, but I have absolutely no desire to own a toy of Hill (with or without SHIELD agents). It has nothing to do with her gender, either. I have no vested interest in the character at the moment.

The point being we all have different entry points into the worlds created by comics and that shapes a lot of our opinions regard said comic worlds and their inhabitants. So while one character might seem an essential part of a fan's Marvel Universe, that same character will have little to no interest to another Marvel fan.

Intresting...I always felt I needed the female characters to complete stuff. I cant imagine not having Princess Leia, Scarlett,Lady J, Baroness, Wonderwoman (super powers),Teela, Evil Lynn etc if anything just to be a total sexiest and have them get kidnapped so they could be rescued lol

I know opinions differ on translucent figures, but looking at my collection today I noticed a big ball that Hasbro dropped. Kitty Pryde! they put out a couple translucent Iron Men, but Shadowcat was left solid! bogus.

Well true, but I was also making a point that for teams and iconic duos certain characters are musts. There were also some low key jokes in there if you read it again... Cause Psylocke was made too, so it's the guys on her duos that weren't made. xD I wasn't looking at time frames either, just picking iconic pairs or teams. Emma and Scott is a rather recent thing too. With the exposure of SHIELD in recent years though, it's high profile enough that those warranted listing as examples. Some team females are high profile enough as must haves like Storm, Jubilee, Captain Marvel, Wasp, Emma Frost, and Red She-hulk is a must cause it's Betty(among more female figures than that!). Vindicator you'd think would be on that list too as well as Snowbird. Black Cat should be made too(especially if kingpin is made, they share as much history as kingpin and Daredevil). Though yeah, the majority of mainstay female characters have been covered. I also get a kick out of the fact Firestar has been covered, but not Justice. That's another one where they flipped the dynamic on us which is great. I think that's awesome when they manage to do that. The female figure becoming available while the iconic male hero they are often paired with is forgotten to be made entirely. xD

I am a little miffed at the no female White Tiger though. With her exposure over in Ultimate Spider-man, that figure should be made. She's pretty much a black panther head, renegades scarlett ponytail, and the basic female buck using panther's hands more or less.

That's an extremely valid point. I'm surprised by that now and also surprised it hasn't been brought up until now. xD

Maybe it's because she typically doesn't become translucent in the comics when she phases, she only becomes intangible. I haven't read every single comic with Shadowcat, but as I've read she doesn't become translucent. I think I'd just prefer an upgrade to the previous figure, actually I'd like upgrades to almost any female made on that lame old buck.

transparent figures.... I recently SCORED a Radiation Man for 12 shipped!!! Great deal I know. HE IS AMAZING in the light..... I want more figures like that! Looking forward to the new Wonder Man, and I would LOVE a Living Laser too!


Maria Hill is a HUGE favourite figure of mine. I hope that doesnt make me sexist, but in my future dio she will be doing the S.H.I.E.L.D. dishes. ;)

I know they're gimmicky but I love translucent figures. If you have a blacklight try it out on some of your translucent figures for some neat results.

I think the best way to open up the MU female action figure market is to go with figures that look bad-ass. My reasoning is half of what kids want is COOL looking figures. I, as a collector and fan, appreciate the Mary Jane figure but come on, what kid would ever want the figure? So flip the script a little and make a female figure that just looks bad-ass and I think you might sell some. Example: Spiral from the X-Men comics. She has 6 arms, some mechanical, and can have 6 knives for the hands or a combo of swords and knives and I truly believe she will sell. I am not a particular Spiral fan but I can appreciate the aesthetic. There are others that would fit the mold IMHO. I think X-23 was a great start but even that could have been done better. The Scarlet Witch and Psylocke and Black Widow all come across as a little too blase. I also think the addition of, shall I say it, flair(insert Office Space reference here) could open it up. For example, the Phoenix figure was a chick in a costume, not a lot there, but add in a fiery Phoenix that can be attached and even posed and I think you might just score some sales above average for a female figure. Want to jazz up Psylocke? Add in some snap on Astral armor (same for Prof X for that matter) and a hellacious sword to go with the little dinky one she came with. Some of the coolest GI Joes were those that came loaded with mission appropriate gear. In the MU space it is less mission appropriate and more character appropriate such as Red She-Hulk coming with a monster sword (and maybe a monster gun to go with it) or Lady Deathstrike with long, scary claw hands.

as to the lack of females and duos and team.... here is a thought.

As we all know, we got AURORA but no NORTHSTAR.... go figure.

Reading the above post about Spiral is bittersweet because it's such a great example of how awesome a character could be that will almost certainly never get made. Given the very unique mold for her, I just can't see it. Although they did make one for ML which surprised the hell out of me.

I would like a Spiral. She's in my top 20 most wanted but I've pretty much figured she's the least likely of anyone on my entire wishlist to be made. Captain Nash....sad. :(

I've been wanting a spiral for a while now, and a blob for my freedom force. I agree with boombatty about cool looking figures selling. The novelty of spiral I bet she would sell well, I'd buy her anyways.

I can definitely get behind the "release cool female characters period, forget duos and teams" idea.

A female character because it's an awesome and cool looking character is definitely a great way to go.

The X-Force outfit Spiral is an amazing example. I'd love to see the new muertes Lady Deathstrike or the Messiah Complex Deathstrike done. X-23(New X-Men costume) and her New X-Men teammates would be fun too. Surge, Mercury, and Pixie have great design cues that are eye catching yet not overtly outlandish(plus Pixie and X-23 can share that mold since it'd only be adding wings for pixie and a new head, and X-23 would need the claw hands). The new Illyana costume would be fun solely for the massive soul sword. Her pure demon form would be a fun figure. Even Jocasta would be neat especially with Age of Ultron coming up. All-New X-Men with their new costumes would be fun too. Include X-23's new costume in that and a ponytailed Kitty Pryde and that'd be perfect.

The new Brotherhood from the future could make for some interesting characters. Well, at least the Jean Grey Xorn and Raze.

And who doesn't want a Dazzler figure already? If they make Pixie, they gotta make Dazzler!

So true. The characters that have the biggest pull for me are the ones that were either in comics from my 'prime' period ('85-'90), or those that were present in the reprints that just preceded it (70's / early 80's versions of characters).

Technically, we did get three different Wasps - but only one full sized. So we have three mini's and one full-sized one. Which is better than we did with Ant-Man (two mini's). Though if you count Yellowjacket, we will end up with two large figures and three mini's after the next wave.

We also had three different versions of Storm; the multipack, the single card, and the Secret Wars two pack.

We also got three different Captain Marvels; vintage, black suit and red suit.

Now we're getting another She Hulk.

They could create female figures up the wazoo just with repaints alone. Let's face it - how many of us bought the West Coast Avengers pack for the lame Mockingbird? The X-Men pack for the big-haired Rogue? Seems like they sell well enough when they're propping up a weak multipack. That's why the Asgard multi would have been great; Valkyrie & Executioner - a chick and a villain in one pack!

We have a Falcon Snowbird (I know - that's even weaker than a Wasp mini - especially as she's a repaint). If they continue making the occasional Alpha Flight figure (including the Sasquatch they promised us!) then I think she'll get made.

Black Cat should be made because of her associations with Spidey and Kingpin, but deffo not before a Kingpin.

She would be an easy repaint. But then as we keep saying; many many characters could be done with simple repaints. Personally, I'd prefer the original White Tiger (male) who would be an even easier repaint (Panther painted white plus Captain Britain amulet).

She - along with Black Widow and Mary Jane - pegwarmed over here. Mind you, that was only at one retailer, so I don't know if that counts.

Many moons ago someone posted the Hasbro voting list for a potential upcoming figure. They then updated it showing what had been made since. We'll I've just looked at the list again, and done another little update... it seems to me that Hasbro is still culling at least some of its characters from this list...

I missed X-23 and Storm, but deliberately left Beast and Drax, only because although they have been released they are pictured with their classic looks which we haven't had yet. Storm has been released in her classic look, but not the one pictured - so I think it's ok to scrub her off (I'm clearly using subjective reasoning here!)

Ironic that Winter Soldier was a fan favorite. Yet I think the First Avenger version was by far a better figure than the MU one.

Hasbro missed out with the 90's Xavier school uniforms, three unique bucks and you could crank out at least seven figures, just pop on new heads and you have gambit, forge, banshee, psylocke, storm, and jubilee.

And to be honest if they'd done that, they could have very easily produced the New Mutants as well. Granted the only ones I want out of that are Cannonball Magik, Sunspot and Moonstar (just never been a fan of Wolfsbane for some reason) but you could easily make all the others. Except Warlock obviously lol

I feel like we would complain that Hasbro would be cheating by just head-swapping a team around. I also prefer the team not be wearing matching uniforms, it comes off a tad boring. That's my personal preference, I'm sure quite a bit of fans would like this roster made in this scale. Though we do have a Wolverine in this costume (two if you count the hideous first attempt as different).
