So... gave a call ahead to the same Target that refused to price match the figures for me yesterday, and confirmed over the phone that they do indeed price match their website (regardless of whether it's in-stock for shipping or not online). Picked up the Ant-Man and Grim Reaper I tried buying yesterday, plus found a Chameleon on the peg to boot which they also discounted. Target is one wacky ass place to shop...

Tell me about it. The one time I went to do a price match from a TRU ad on the GI Joe movie figures, which was in a 4 page ad went like this:

The dude spent 5 minutes looking at it, looking through it, and then said, "We can't price match them unless you bring us the entire ad."

"!! That is the entire ad. Look, it says 1, 2, 3, and 4 on it."

"I need to call the manager to look at it and give the okay then."

Manager shows up 5 minutes later and looks at the ad.

"We aren't supposed to price match without the entire ad."

"That IS the entire ad. See the page numbers."

Looks at it again. "Are you sure? This seems way too small to be an ad."

"You know what, I don't need these things anyway. They're from a crappy movie to begin with. Have a great day."

Hahaha, yup, that's exactly how I felt the first trip there, the figures weren't high enough on my priority list to deal with that level of stupid, so I bounced. It's funny how they also consistently try to turn the tables on us mentally like we're trying to scam them with their own ads, all while Mr. Figure Swap is probably right behind you in line for a return after replacing Infinite Scarlet Witch with Toy Biz Scarlet Mitch in the box (which they'll of course accept no questions asked).

Ghost Rider has also slipped back to Marvel, but that's a cleaner return of rights.

I guess the partial return of rights for Namor is better than nothing at all? That's good news about Ghost Rider...I like Nick Cage, but he wasn't a great fit for Ghost Rider.

Well...two weird things happened today. The 3 pack is street dated but because the word got around here in my town fast, one Target store decided to put them out on the floor today (1st weird thing). I went to see if it was true and sure enough, there are two left and they were hiding behind some other boxes. I get a second one for my kids to open. So, I group text my local collectors/friends to let them know that there's one left. The guy that got there first got it and when he was paying, he asks for the price match. I wasn't there but I can only imagine the look on his face when the employee tell him, "Yes, we can price match...your total is $8.50 (second weird thing)...WTF? Poor employee, he must have made some very bad mistake. I wouldn't have taken the offer, I just can't do that but this guy doesn't care, that's just the way he's always been. He's the talk of the town right now as you can imagine.

That's the line I draw... a discount based on an actual advertised price is fine, but something that can get an employee in trouble for a mistake is not cool to take advantage of, and I will tell them to recheck how it's ringing up. If they do and the low price keeps coming up though, that's a solid in my book. =)

Yeah, I am betting he went to enter 28.50$ and the 2 key did not get hit hard enough. I would have had to correct him. I was in retail over a decade and could not let a person get in trouble for something like that. The online discount should have been enough. But some people are greedy, deceitful, and think they are entitled.

Phantomcrow 10-01-2015 12:57 AM

I picked up the Ultron 3 pack from Target.(price matched to the $28.50 of course) The girl I asked went in back and got me one. She even let me look at the other 3 because the side "ears" on Ultron were very messed up.

I also hit up a few Wal-Mart stores and found the whole Hulkbuster series. One store would not let me price match, so I left there with nothing. They actually did the right thing. The Wal Mart price match policy states that they are not to match a price unless it is in stock on the website they are matching. If you can not add it to a cart online they are not SUPPOSED to match it. This does not always happen as I went to another WM and the lady matched it without looking at my phone for more than a second. Just long enough to see the price on 1 figure and she matched the 5 figures I had to $12.23. Now the other store I found the other 2 figures at, the girl had to check each figure (I showed her on my phone for each character) and her CSM even said to go ahead and do it.
Now I need to go to the WM that I had all of these on layaway and cancel that and get my money back. Normally I am fine to pay the 20$ on Legends but for about 55$ off the standard price (plus 20$ off the Target 3 pack) that is a lot of money. Money that is going to pay for most of the Rhino wave I have on Layaway.

JamesBenjamin 10-01-2015 04:36 AM

There's no street date for the Target 3 pack, they're just part of a reset that starts this sunday. So some stores will do it Saturday night, some stores are lazy and will just do it sometime this upcoming week. But the boxes don't have a date on them like the TFA Star Wars figures did.

I have to be honest, I did scam them once, but as an experiment.

I bought a Black Widow to customize and ****ed it up. I took her back to Target and was honest about what happened and they refused to let me even exchange her for another figure from the same series. I left telling them I understood. Cool.

Two days later that same employee is there so I go there and I act like nothing is wrong with the figure (the exact same figure and everything) and I lie about it and they took it back without an issue.

Why the hell do you have to lie to get customer service but telling the truth does nothing? It's like when you get bad service in a restaurant or store and if you bitch, you get a discount or something for free, but if you don't bitch, you get nothing but "We're sorry." Why not reward those people who are like, "You got my order wrong. No worries, it happens?"

*EDIT* I totally missed the experiment part. Interesting outcome. Very weird. Although, I can't help but feel like employees should be able to look at a box and think, "does this look correct?"

Yeah...that's what they told me at the two local stores. Another collector who picked one up here said the same thing and a friend here at the Ark from Arizona said they told him the same thing. It may not have a street date but that's what they are telling the people.

Do you throw the workers at walgreens a $20 or something? everytime i go to one of them, they usually don't always have the shelves stocked and if you ask them to get a box out or go look, I get the usual whatever we have is on the shelf and or if you'd like come back on saturday when we get are stuff in....

On a side note guys, i didnt get a first appearance DD today but i did find a Jessica Drew spider-woman at the crap TRU near me. i've been searching for awhile too... not that i couldnt have gotten her months ago but i just seem to have not been able to find a clean or semi decent looking one.

Raf takes advantage of a little known fact often lost on today's generation, despite it being common knowledge really since the beginning of time.

People simply can't resist the power of a sharp dressed man in uniform. =P

Both Target and Best Buy have always just seen the price on my phone and then adjusted the price, no questions, no problem, just done and done. (Though I also prep ahead of time; I always have the page pre-loaded on my phone so I can instantly pull it up before I'm at the cash register)

Or I'd contact Target corporate via the website and tell them about your issues, since that's pretty fishy to me.

It always depends on the CSR, I usually like the young ones cause they don't care haha. I mean seriously it's not like they're the ones losing the $.

Yeah I had to hit up a different Target for them to adjust the price to the new discounted one, the first one I went to she was way lame, then again I only had the receipt with me and not the figures. I guess it's always easier when you have the figures with you. But I know for TRU doesn't matter they just use the receipt.

I wouldn't have been able to do it either, but it's one of those bite your lip moments, like when you pay for something with a 20 and get 50 back in change. there is always a small part of you that harkens back to the "Monopoly bank error" scenario and just want to feel like you beat the system.

Kamatayan 10-01-2015 02:00 PM

Don't feed into the scalpers guys! I've seen the Walgreen Exclusive DD's go for a lot more than it's worth on eBay so I just want to tell you guys know that he's available for $18.00 on the Walgreens website!

i guess people are just more nice there.... here in florida people tend to walk off or try not starting a convo. oh well.

Pravus Prime 10-01-2015 03:10 PM

Picked up Iron Man mark 43 (Thanos) today from Target, price matched to $12.23. The guy actually checked to see it was the same figure that I had pulled up on my phone (I had), and no fuss, price changed.

I almost feel bad for having put off picking him up; I think the 43 may be my favorite Iron Man figure. (If he had interchangeable hands like the IM2 figures, it would be a no brainer) A brief blast of the hair dryer and the right shoulder pad was back in place. I kept hearing mediocre stuff about this guy and either I got a great one or people just complain to complain. Super tight ankle joints, sharp paint aps, only the hip joints aren't super tight and they're far from floppy. Plus that red looks great in person.
