They bypass those outlets altogether and sell directly to the market (Hence why they're called "DC [i[Direct[/i]"). Comicbook shops, specialty stores, and online retailers.
There's absolutely no reason they couldn't sell these the same way.
It was a conscious decision by these people to restrict this line to conventions only.

It might, we don't know the details of the contract. It could be conventions would be the one loop hole they have.

Either you're the A list or you're not. MU started with three A listers in the first assortment. If it was Hal Jordan I'd give you an A lister but while cool characters K&K are b list at best. (I'd personally put them c list)

I wonder what level of convention they mean? NY comic con? Boston? Philly? I have six guys I can get together wearing DC shirts? doers that count as a con?

It'll be interesting to see what they reveal at SDCC. I'm not going and won't pay scalper prices for these so show me what else is coming and where I have to go to get it. I figure I can make it as far as Washington DC

Colder Soldier 07-06-2012 10:21 PM

Help! The damn G4 video won't load on my phone. I wanna see em!

As I understand it, they are SDCC exclusives only. No NYCC or any other con. That may change if there is an announcement made at SDCC. Or they simply could confirm it.

Jason Abbadon 07-07-2012 12:10 PM

These are a huge improvment but theres no wrist swivel and the hands see, oversized on Kyle.

Still, I'd happily pay $25 for this set- looooove Kyle.
Guy would be better though.

What pisses me off is that this is SUCH scalper-bait- expect Ebay insanity right after SDCC.:rolleyes

They, and DC Direct have been making DC toys for years. Even longer than Mattel. They've never sold to chain retailers, selling instead through Comic shops first, then the Online market when that became a successful outlet in the early 00's.
Pretty sure it's safe to assume they could sell these that way, too. Hard to imagine a reason why they'd be restricted to selling articulated 4" figures exclusively at conventions, but can still sell their 6" figures through their traditional means.

I wouldn't exactly call Punisher or Daredevil a list characters. At all. They're actually about the same level as Guy Gardner, Captain Marvel, Kilowog, and Kyle Rayner.

Well, he did say only three A-list characters were in the first wave of MU (which I assume he meant Spider-Man, Iron Man and Wolverine). I also think there may be some debate as to whether Johnny Storm belongs in that list, or if it's only in conjunction with his team.

As for Kyle and Kilowog, personally I'd split it 50/50. Kyle was the main GL for a time, but I realise he might have taken a back seat these days after Jordan returned. Kilowog, on the other hand, has always been a supporting character within the GL comics (from what I remember of them). For Gardner and Marvel, I put them firmly in the B-list camp.

It still sucks that this two-pack won't at least be available through LCS. On the plus side, I'm hoping these sell out quickly and that Mattel is paying attention when it happens.

Ah. Alright my bad.
My appologies tlasjr, I didn't catch that part. I'd thought you were saying the entire lineup was a list.

tlasjr 07-07-2012 05:26 PM

No worries. And yes Trebleshot nailed it. And I will give them that that K&K are WORLDS ahead of how Matty started DCIH.

I also would assume the same rules would apply to the contract for the 6" and 4" lines but you can't be sure until you read the contract. I always go back to Star Wars the arcade game. Lucasarts licenese the right to make the Star Wars arcade game to Atari who has to license it to Parker Brothers who releases it on Atari systems.

Punisher and Daredevil both got their own movies, and even people who don't like superheroes like Punisher. He's definitely A-list.

Tiberius 07-07-2012 06:06 PM

I say Punisher is B+/A- list. DD is becoming A list.

DogFashionDisco 07-07-2012 06:22 PM

Due to the existence of Ben Affleck and his role as DD, I will never enjoy a Daredevil movie. Same thing happened with Ryan Reynolds and the Green Lantern flick. Hollywood thinks that these talentless dipshits make good heroes, but it doesn't work.

Tiberius 07-07-2012 06:56 PM

I didn't mind Ben as DD. Would of liked to see Ryan as Kyle Rayner in a supporting cast roll though..

Boba Fettuccini 07-07-2012 07:09 PM

I liked Afleck as DD...

I agree with this.
And would also like to add that I don't think either movie is as bad as they get trashed for being. Though, I'll admit I only ever saw the Directors Cut for Daredevil, and I'm told that's a dramatically better quality movie.

But yeah, Ryan isn't bad, he's just bad for Hal. Him as Kyle would have been a major improvement.

DogFashionDisco 07-07-2012 07:11 PM

You guys are very kind, because I hated both of their performances. Then again, we can't agree on everything, right?

Tiberius 07-07-2012 07:12 PM

I saw the DD Directors Cut a few months ago, it was a huge improvement, actually made it one of my favorites. Still not a fan with how they did Bullseye though. When a man with a bullseye on his forehead asks for a fucking costume, you bet give him one!

All I know, is they could of gotten some one worse to play DD... as for GL...couldn't of picked a worse guy to play Hal [although I do like Ryan, got to support the homeboy XD]

Boba Fettuccini 07-07-2012 07:20 PM

He was a great Wade Wilson.

LXL_Guy 07-07-2012 08:21 PM

Horrible that these are convention exclusives.

Crazy Jetty 07-07-2012 09:25 PM

This conversation about Ben and Ryan is one of the few going on that inspired me to make this thread, Might be best to move this interesting convo there.

Interesting how this started out about good articulated GL figures, and ended up about Ben Afleck and Ryan Renolds as Daredevil and Green Lantern. lol

yeah LXL Guy summed up why this happened. who cares about these figures if we end up having to loose vital organs to find/pay for it

DogFashionDisco 07-07-2012 09:50 PM

Sorry, my nerd rage kicked in.

They really want to produce the play set...thought to be about $150.

DC COLLECTIBLES

The new DCC 3.75″ line MIGHT NOT end up as a con only line. They want to hear the feedback on that at the show. If this first set sells really well at the show they will know there is a market for it. They started out with the Green Lantern universe, but they plan to expand it to their on line stores. But the “Con Only” is not set in stone.

  • Good chance they will make the Green Lantern Oa playset on display here at SDCC for their 3.75" figures.
  • The 3.75" Green Lantern figures shown at the booth are being shown to see how much interest there is in a line. They've talked about doing Batman ones next maybe even with a Batcave playset.
  • The 3.75" figures if they sell out this weekend, they will go forward. These exclusives are being used to test the market.
  • 6" scale isn't going away because of the 3.75"

That is some very good news!
