My... my head hurts...

He is saying that when someone who defends moral character disagrees with the other side, the other side get up in arms and accuses them of ad hominem attacks i.e. "If you don't vote for Hilary, there's a special place in hell for women who don't support women". - Madeline Albright

Permit me to interject:

It's important to distinguish between 'tolerance' and 'acceptance.' Political correctness in popular culture tends deliberately to blur that distinction, resulting in a warm, fuzzy, glib message of 'universal acceptance,' failing to acknowledge our duty as individuals in a free society to think critically and form our own unique values and opinions, necessarily rejecting some in favor of others.

Too many people are like walking receptacles, accepting any little bit of spoon-fed political correctness or propaganda, like apps to a cell phone. Healthy societies encourage critical thought.

That is NOT the same as being intolerant! Everybody should have the right to go about their daily lives free of bullying. Permit me to rephrase Joe's statement above: "you can be tolerant of others without agreeing with them on something."

Paraphrasing Louise's point, if there is something you find unacceptable in popular culture, let the market speak: take your money elsewhere.
Thank you for explaining further my point. The playline market is a sinking ship, but I hope it will be saved. Maybe kickstart will come to our rescue.

It is propaganda; what is Lady Gaga's banner? So we know what to expect when we see them hit shelves. The truth is Mattel is crossing that line. No where in the history of the world has society changed the status quo until this last few years in the department of "equal" (special) rights for organizations that pump insane amount of money for their cause. Some blue states deem it right that kindergarten children be put through "acceptance" programs before they are even able to understand sexEd.

Children of this generation are the most experimented on with social issues that didn't even exist and the results of it are yet to be seen. What I do know is that testosterone is under attack.
Indeed. By the way did you notice all those technology based toys? They're is no place left for imagination or thinking, it's like buying a video game that caught shelf space.

P.S. I am girl^^;

All in favor of ignoring Louise Belcher and this derailment of the discussion? Aye

But then you also have the opposite of that, people so concerned (even paranoid) at not being a "walking receptacle", that they try and look for deeper meanings or messages that may well not be there.
An extreme in EITHER direction is bad.

Personally, I see some hypocrisy in Louise Belcher's posts saying it is bad for companies to use marketing to promote a positive social message, but okay for them to use that marketing to get kids to push their parents into spending hundreds of MILLIONS of dollars on toys and knick knacks that will be forgotten and disposed of in a few years.

So I might get the DKR Superman if I find it in person and if I do then that there armored DKR Batman would probably be cool to get too. Otherwise I'm not loving any of their movie toys.

Same here, I wished they'd have shown off just a few more comic-styled figures, or, heck, even re-releases of figures who's secondary market prices are ludicrous (lookin' at you, Batman Beyond! And yes, I'd want the one they teased for the Batman Unlimited line with the wing accessory, haha)

Joe Moore 02-16-2016 03:08 PM

So, I believe we (meaning me) have helped to derail the original intention of the thread far off topic. Fro a toy lien we don't even cover here. So let's end this as an "agree to disagree" and move onto the actual topic here.

Let me start.

I want the Supergirl figure for sure, unless DCC hops on that train as well. Releasing the Supergirl is going to get me to grab their TV Flash. Wish the Green Arrow was better though.

I watched Pixel Dan's interview with DCC last night, while they didn't outright say it, they said something along the lines of "it would be reasonable to assume that sometime in the future we'd get around to it, but we're not ready to announce anything officially yet." when asked after showing off the new Flash and Arrow figures in their current attire.

I'd be cool with that. The current Arrow outfit is the best one yet. While I like the DCC one for the most part, the heads, for some reason, have a very different feeling to them compared to the body sculpts. Can't quite put my finger on it.

Most anti-PC types are actually very staunchly and sometimes aggressively anti-critical, though. They often view critical race or gender theory as part of "Political Correctness" and do their best to shut it down.

You can still have critical discussion while being respectful of disadvantaged people. The majority of things that are "politically incorrect" aren't exactly useful in a real discussion.

I also don't understand how you can encourage individuality and at the same time have to accpet everyone/everything and not be allowed to criticize?! Anyway, Lady GaGa isn't what I'd like to call a positive children role model.

this is exactly the problem with anti-SJWs, "we all know what's implied!" people act like they're only against some nebulous idea of "extremist" social justice but in reality they just want to poop all over nice things.

that said I don't have much hope for this. I'm a fan of the Monster High animations, and some of the toys. Some of the movies do have good messages. But they're all still stick thin with conventionally attractive figures, they're all cis and straight(when the whole monster thing would have given them a fun platform to explore that) and able bodied(well, there's Finnegan Wake, but still.)

I wish they'd just outright say Ghoulia is autistic because I identify with her so much. Quite I, too, communicate in nothing but groans and awkward hand movements.

Joe Moore 02-16-2016 05:21 PM

I have requested that this thread move back to the initial topic at hand. Please adhere to that request. I am leaving the original discussion in place, however, any further posts not related to the galleries from the event will be removed.

Thanks.

Madame Warlock 02-16-2016 05:23 PM

Okay.

Skoob 02-16-2016 07:31 PM

I'm with Joe re: a new TV Supergirl figure, though it's a given that we'll see alternative versions shortly. I'd like to see one from DCC. They've done some terrific female figures lately, IMO.

Whoever cast Melissa Benoist for the starring role deserves some kind of recognition. She's great!

OriginalFire 02-29-2016 11:05 PM

So are the Thundercats figures based on the toys or the show. Like how they are now doing Filmation He-Man and then they have the classics line which is based on the old toys

MPT 03-12-2016 09:40 AM

I don't know why these Mattel action figures have stiff capes and coats; put in multi-purpose capes and soft coats as well, Mattel, and you'll have me sold

They're kind of based on the cartoon, but done in the fat He-Man style, which makes no sense to me as they are supposed to agile characters.

FCourier 05-15-2016 10:06 PM

they should really tuck those capes in, rather than making the cape float in their shoulders
