This is THE project where you add in figures that may flop or can't be released at mass retail. This is where a naked alien girl and a bald fat shirtless guy and an alien nobody remembers make the most sense. Instead, no Oola, Malaki, or Giran. |
First problem…..Patrick blew the surprise of the Rancor. Now I’m not knocking him….I have know idea how these guys keep everything straight…and I’d mess up immediately. That said it did take the wind out of the sails.
Second problem….rumors had this coming in at $300. They got greedy. Third issue…..to many Haslabs at once. Ghostbusters, GI Joe and this. There’s lots of crossover collectors and we are feeling drained. Add on the fact Galactus just ended, massive convention exclusives the fact many were unhappy with the knee issue on the sentinel haslab and super7 threw their hat in the ring with the TMNT classics van. Lots of collectors blew the Covid relief money on items early in the year. No more checks. Forth …..the ridiculous stretch goals. They over estimate the fondness of vintage cards with black series collectors. Vintage scale collectors eat it up. Black series collectors are more of a younger crowd….most diehards I know grew up during the clone wars cartoons. If the Rancor Keeper had been goal 3 the haslab would have jumped several thousand today. If Oola was revealed for a forth we would be talking about how fast this funded today. Instead it is dropping by 100 and growing…..as in people are cancelling big time. I honestly feel bad for the Star Wars team. I’m sure they have a budget and bosses wanting more profit. I don’t wish ill on anyone. But the team does not have the pulse of collectors this time. I have spoken. |

This thing probably cost a million to tool, so the price is justified. |

After Galactus
While it's nice if the thing get's funded really quickly, I think it's irrelevant the bulk of the campaign. It's the final stretch that matters when all the numbers are being accounted for. When fomo sets in as well. Now when it comes to the number of concurrent campaigns. I guess it depends on how the target users overlap. Are all the people backing Rancor the same people who backed Galactus? Same with Ghostbusters and Transformers. I still stand firm that the most people should be backing these Haslabs(at this point) for the main revealed figure. If the main product doesn't justify the price, then you probably shouldn't back. That doesn't give a pass to potentially crappy tier unlocks but tier unlocks that haven't been unlocked may as well not exist. Now price in general. Playing the greed card I think is ignorant. A lower production run is going to cost more money to produce then if they did a mass release. This isn't a charity. Hasbro wants to make a profit but it's not like per unit each costs $10. Now personally I don't think this thing is $350 given other Haslabs. Now will it be backed? I think so. |
As with the gamorrean I completely predicted that Luke would be one of the tiers since he's the hero who fights the monster. Salacious Crumb though is such a crap tier and kind of a left-field inclusion since he has nothing to do with the rancor, cackling as you watch the rancor doesn't really count since almost everyone in Jabba's palace does that.

This is an outrage! Salacious Crumb doesn't come with a coin like Luke and the pig guard? I am cancelling my pledge.

There's a video out there that basically explains why HasLab projects will always come with figures that are a repaint or very simple resculpt because it's just too much of an investment to make the kind of completely new body that characters like Oola and Rancor Keeper would require and not release them to the general public. That's why the Yakface that came with the Sail Barge came in a special retro packaging, and why the Din, Grogu, and Jawa figures that came with the Razorcrest were slight variations (soft goods, new face sculpt, exclusive accessories) of already existing figures. Oola's likely off limits because of past controversies (one dad) over gold bikini Leia. Genuinely don't know why the Rancor Keeper wasn't released on a Power of the Force package then given a fan channel release in basic packaging. They're going to have to release him at some point for completists. |
This thing is doomed now. I'm now actually wondering if it will even hit its initial backer goal. It is LOSING backers in droves. Less than 24 hours ago it was in the 5130s and as of right now it's at 5007...no wait 5005... and still dropping! It has easily lost 100+ backers since the big reveal today. Hasbro better do something drastic in the next week or so if they want to save themselves from this becoming the next big joke after the Cookie Monster.

So I dont know about overlap. I'm a Fan of all 3 of those franchises. But personally I do see it passing, but only if it does the same thing Unicron did in that they stretch the campaign. But it also has not only 2 other haslabs to compete with(And I dont see the GIJoe one passing either), but also X-mas and inflation. If it doesnt move the end date, it wont get made. |
Well nevermind. I really was only in if Oola was a tier but I couldn't care less about those stretch goals. Still the Rancor itself looks nice.

?330 in the U.K. for that thing- about $445 USD. Not seeing the value if I'm honest. The paint has just made it look worse. This one may not make it to production.

Backer count has officially dropped below 5000. Again, it was in the 5130s 24 hours ago. It's now at 4997. Wow.
People on other boards are now actively rooting for it to fail and betting on how far it could drop. I've never seen a kickstarter of this scale go this much in REVERSE this far into its run. This is just crazy. To think that Hasbro expected today's final reveals to actually BOOST the number of backers. It's going to be a dismal Monday morning for certain people in that office next week. :) The sad thing is, I don't think Hasbro's team has the clarity to realize why this will ultimately fail. They'll spin it around to pass the blame onto us instead, claiming there's just not enough collectors out there anymore to support big expensive toys like this. |

Either way, just wait for it and see what happens. |

Hopefully Disney keeps burning cash and racking up the debt so they will stop listening to Twitter and listen to their actual paying customers! |
Someone mentioned rancor turd? That painted rancor actually looks like turd, take a look at what companies like Bandai is doing for $300, Hasbro can you honestly match that level of engineering and quality with this?
|
I'm happy to be saving the $800AUD this would have cost me if it had actually been good. Value for money was always debatable but I wasn't expecting the actual painted prototype to look bad, and I won't even comment on the stretch goals.
|
For the money, the detail isn’t there, the color is…. Suspiciously diarrheal, and the stretch goals are laughably bad…. Happy to be canceling my order and save the money particularly just before Christmas….
