Hey guys and gals I just got home a little while ago and I had a great day at the show. Unfortunately I arrived later to the show then I planned due to the wacky weekend NY Transit schedules so I missed the Mattel DC Universe pannel. However I was able to attend the Matty Collector one with toy Guru and the four Horsemen. I even had a chance to speak to the Mattel Toy Guru, Scott Neitlitch (sp?) himself later in the day at the Mattel booth.

I am a huge JLU fan and the new additions coming to the line do not dissapoint. And the upcoming MOTUC releases are incredible. Believe me when I say the pictures do not do them justice.

I have my notes from the Matty Collector pannel and I am going through them. I hope to have a report up either tonight or early tomorrow on it.

I was able to aquire a Faker figure, but i was upset to learn I missed getting a He-Man figure by mere minutes. They told me the last one sold 10 minutes before I got there. They were available around the convention floor for ridiculous amounts of money. I gather some of the dealers picked them up earlier in the day. On the flipside, Mattel did have plenty of Fakers and Beast Mans available. I hope to have a mini review of Faker some time this week, he is awesome. I was also given a Wolverine Origins Dog Tag from Acclaim I believe it was, which is very cool.

One little geek moment for me was being able to meet Kevin Maguire, who was the Artist on the 80's Justice League International series. I had him sign my Hardcover Volume 2 of the book. I was also shocked to see a long line for Rob Liefeld. I mean I remember the hype for him back in the day but I personally don't think his art was/is all that.

I saw some cool video games related stuff. Ultimate Alliance 2 looks like it is going to be awesome. Apparently the game is bassed on the Civil War. To promote it they even had a debate on Super Hero rights. Pretty funny stuff. Another upcoming release on display that looks great in the Legends of Wrestlemania. Only Hogan and Andre were available to use, but I did see the great Bobby "The Brain" Heenan at ringside. The graphics were amazing from the wrestlers to the crowd. The wrestlers even come to the ring in those little wrestling ring carts they used to use at some of the old Wrestlemania events. The game features a more old school control which harkens back to the well liked games of the past like WWF No Mercy. I was told they designed the game to lure back people who might not have played a wretling game in a while.

One thing that really struck me as funny was the Autograph area. Lou Ferrigno was there as was Peter Mayhew amongst others. But one "Celebrity" that was there blew my mind. The Legendary Anthony Forrester was there. You may be asking yourself, who it is. Shame on you! Mr Forrester portrayed a legendary cinematic role, he was the Stormtrooper at Mos Eisley who Obi Wan used the Jedi mind trick on. Of course I am being slightly sarcastic and I'm sorry to insult him or anyone else, but who would want to pay Money to meet him? Maybe it's just me.

Anyhow thats it for now. Big Thanks to Destro and Tony Bacala for allowing me the honor of being Toy Ark's field reporter.

^700 posts!

Really, though, thanks so much for covering this and keeping us informed!

flint is the man!

I still wanna know what Walmart and Mattel are gonna do for Wave 5 since they basically are a store elusive wave. It's disgusting and depressing when I talk to a toy department employee they have never heard of the wave, they ask for the UPC so they could check the warehouse yet no one online has the UPCs...Niiice. Classy Mattel, very classy. I thought toy makers learned there lesson after the 1701 ST TNG figure fiasco...

I absolutely loved MUA. I hope it is coming out for PC.

Great report Flint! Next year we will have to plan to go as a team!

trebleshot 02-07-2009 10:54 PM

Can't wait to see the report Flint. Glad you had a good time, it sounds like it was a lot of fun.

Shin Densetsu 02-07-2009 11:25 PM

Welcome back Flint! You did a good job with the pics!

MegaPrime33 02-08-2009 07:35 AM

Thanks to Flint for some awesome coverage! I love the MOTU stuff. It makes me want to go out and get an original Hordak and the awesome Staticon that came out a few years ago.

RKillian 02-08-2009 11:49 AM

Sucks that Hasbro's abandoning Legends for a smaller size that'll be more expensive by volume and suffer even worse paint applications. Really sucks that everybody's somehow psyched for this knowing that's what's in store for us.

Wow. That post couldn't be more wrong if you tried.

Everything we've seen and/or bought so far from the MU line is great.

I see it more as holding off until next year. From what I've seen, the MU figures tend to have consistent paint apps.

Sorry this is late, but here is the highlights from the Matty Collector Pannel
OK as promised here is the highlights from the Mattel Matty Collector Pannelhosted by Toy Guru and the Four Horsmen

IN 2009 they Are going to have full Brand Pages and Visual Guides for DCUC, MOTU, JLU, Ghostbusters, Cars, Toy Story.

New Items every Month in 2009

JLU 4 Packs Every Quarter
Fisrt Up Gotham Criminals on 2-17

Next Legion of Super Heroes - Brainiac 5, Lightning Ladm Cosmic Girl (and One other who;s name escapes me)

Then The Marvel Family
Captain Marvel, Black Adam, Maty Marvel and The Wizard Shazam

DCUC
April 15th Alex Luthor and Ultraman 2 pack Available

MOTUC
There may be some months with BOnus Figures. Bonus Figures will be repainrs or reissues, but don't worry about things like Tecnocolor SKeletor. Think Mini comic or 200x style repaints.

SDCC exclusive in addition to July Figure, revealed in April.

Ghostbusters

12" have a new body type pattened by Mattel that has never seen before with amazing articulation.

Will feature authentic accesories with moving parts. The line will represent all spectrums of Ghostbusters Media. Each Figure will be packed with a ghost. A new Figure will be available every other month.
12" Ghostbusters will be $60 and 6" will be $20.

Q&A Highlights

If MOTU contines to be successful, they may look at A Grayskull tyoe display. Good chances of Battlecat and obviously Panthor.

The Cost for Mini comics would take away from things like extra heads. They are looking at doing a graphic novel reprinting the original Mini comics.

They are looking at International distrabution centers for international fans.

MOTUC reissues would have minor changes like @nd printing on packaging.

King Greyskull could get a reissue with different paint apps.

You will never see a rerelease of LOBO but he may be a possability for JLU someday likely through Matty.

Director was signed for a MOTU movie

Shadow Weaver (MOTU) is off limits as are other Flimation characters. But if rights ever open up, they'll probably jump on it.

Titus and Megator would be more possible then Modulock and Accessory packs with repainted weapons might happen one day.

They were looking at trying to do Thndercats, but the rights are not available.

Anti Monitor 3 3/4 exclusive for SDCC. The 30" Antimonitor was very expensive to make and the ones given away for the Raffel is hand put together and painted. They looked at producing them but they would cost $300 and they would have to sell 50,000 to be profitable.

U must be confusing this line with either DCU Crisis Collection or the Indiana Jones line.

Shin Densetsu 02-08-2009 05:40 PM

Flint thanks for the MattyCollector panel info bro!

Flint 02-08-2009 06:05 PM

No Problem. I have to say Mattel is really going to shine. They have a great fan friendly attitude and some amazing stuff currently available and in the pipeline for the future.

They will shine more if we can find the DCUC figures. Those are the most popular collector-based DC items by Mattel and are extremely hard to find! I am glad that the later walmart wave will see much better distribution. I'm glad that the 4H were give the opportunity to do more 6" figures, not just DCUC, but Ghostbusters and more.

Wave 9 is full of winners. Batfans want Chemo(I remember when he was dropped on Bludhaven). I want Green Arrow and Black Canary(I'm a fan of the series too). I have wanted a Black Adam figure ever since I read Infinite Crisis. Mantis is good for fans of the New Gods, such as myself. Deadshot is a must as well.

All around, wave 9 has some of the best character choices to ever grace a wave.

I think it is rather dumb of Mattel to not re-release Lobo. That statement right there probably made a lot of scalpers happy.
