Depends on which industry you go into. Private industry pays better, but government employment is generally more stable (at least for IT staff). It's good money, especially if you're single.

My advice is to have a broad foundation for your skills set. It really helps troubleshooting when you're a jack-of-all-trades.

I tried that once and they took away my gun. Now they only let me use my Nerf Mjolnir. Not quite the same effect.

I guess it is a good thing I never got too into what I did to make ends meet while I worked on my degree, because today my work officially put me on suspension until further notice. I suspect it has to do with how I have been speaking out about all of the sexual misconduct happening at work, and they finally found a way to set me up and cut me loose. I guess it is for the better, but damnit if I'm not still raging over how fucked up that place is.

I am a speed dealer.....no really. I work for The largest supplier of claasic antique car tires ( ie white walls) and one of the oldest speed shops around. I come to work and I might be selling tires to the average Joe next door or showing big time rock stars around the shop. Pretty sweet gig if you are into hot rods.

I'm a electrical engineer. I guess its how I macgyver things together for MU. The normal 8 hour shift on the weekdays and I have the weekends off for play time (collecting, customizing, football, snow boarding season, basketball, etc).

I do not understand what this means at all man...

I work for Fedex.
They're...okay. They dont pay what they should for the work involved, and the new boss just handed out glowing appraisals with almost no riases...but times are tough and I need my insurance benifits.

Sad thing is, I get a shipping discount, but I dread going in there on my day off as they're short handed and I get asked to work...made me stupid late getting out a pair of trades this past week!

The no raises part probably isn't your new boss's fault as that is determined at a level higher than he I suspect.

The glowing appraisals part probably is your new boss's fault. Sometimes recognition for how much they appreciate all of your hard work is all they can offer.

The reality is, in a working enviroment like Fed Ex, the new boss is a working stiff just like everyone else.

He is rated the same way, and raises are most likely given as a percentage of gross yearly income.

Their review proccess is likely crafted to ressemble a bell curve with the majority of the employees all getting the same precentage raise: new boss included.

10% of the work force (again bosses included) probably gets 1% more than everyone else, and 10% probably get 1% less than everyone else.

This is most likely how it actual works. So really, reccognition is all his boss can give, and likely all they got.
