OK, I've implemented that. Have to roll out for a bit. Figured you guys can absorb it and let me know after using it for a bit what you think.

Check the sidebar, those icons are back there, forum link points to the tags.

Later!

DogFashionDisco 02-28-2012 02:56 PM

I already feel less enthusiastic about the site now that it no longer has the DC related section on the side of the screen. I've been spending much more time in that areas than the Marvel one primarily because I can't find Marvel figures in the wild anymore and I'm a Batman nut. I guess I'll just stop coming to this site as often.

trebleshot 02-28-2012 03:10 PM

But that's really the last thing you'd want to do, if you want the DC sections to come back strong. If traffic drops in those sections even lower, there's really no incentive to give them their own section again.

If anything, you'd want to post more, create threads and generally get the word out. If you only post in a couple DC threads and never create any new ones, then you're effectively reducing the DC discussion down to those couple of threads anyway.

I hope everything works out, because I want to see this site and all its forums florish, regardless of which toy line/IP they cover.

It's easy to be biased here when you're primarily a Marvel fan and this doesn't affect you. I'm sure if the Marvel section as merged into the General Discussion, you'd be singing a different tune. Some of these comments are just ignorant. This isn't Marvel vs. DC or Hasbro vs. Mattel.

We're all collectors here and before you start slinging mud about how everyone who collects DC and MOTU and everything else deserves to have everything dumped into one confusing mess because we "lack passion", think about what you're saying. This isn't "Haha, Marvel wins. Take that!". Seriously, what are you guys, 5 years old?

In the past few months, I've been really getting into DC and MOTU and have been posting on those threads as well. Quite frequently, too, I might add. So there's only about 5 regular posters on DC and the other topics? Well you're also forgetting that those posters include myself, Tiberius, Crazy Jetty, kenm2474, M3T4L V1KING, DogFashionDisco, etc.

We FREQUENT these boards. We're active users. We post regularly. I've even been noticing that there are some new sign ups who are getting in on the DC action as well as the other forums like Quipp and ToyAddict. It's growing and now you're nipping it before it gets a real chance to take off. Sometimes if feels like some of the moderators are so out of touch with their community, they're living in their own world. This seems more like a "control" thing that a "constructive" or "functional" thing.

I used to be able to choose if I wanted to talk Marvel, DC, MOTU and everything else was condensed enough that I could pick out things like Ninja Turtles and Streetfighter and other things that I was somewhat interested in. Now you're only giving me two choices. ToyArk or look for another forum that better specializes in DC toys or MOTU toys and spread myself over a span of other pages. This is not a big deal for me to do but I like the familiar community of ToyArk. I can't speak for everyone else, but you're going to start losing some of my traffic to some of the other forums I've only just been poking my head in for a peek.

I wanted to point this out and say this is absolutely beautifully written. Every word said is exactly how I feel.

Can the DC guys yay or nay this please, one way or the other.

When I left last night this thread was one page. Now it's four and my head is spinning trying to catch up to the conversation. I have to say I don't fully understand your suggestion, but ATM I think that's more my fault than you not making yourself clear. I'll have to come back to it. But if it helps us get our DC forums back in the long run, I'm all for it.
Also, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for taking my suggestions with the sidebar! That makes me very much happier, and I feel that you're now helping those get more traffic than you were.
EDIT: Okay, I see now what you're talking about. I never used it much at all before, and was part of the "landscape" so I never really noticed they were gone, or put back up. But yeah, if this helps get us the DC forums back I'm for it. And appreciate them being put back up.

Directed at no one, I have another suggestion to look at.
Again, all the fiction topics focused into one forum, exactly as they are.
But the toys get broken down to Genre, instead of Marvel/everything else.

Just an example off the top of my head. Using these franchises as examples, not suggestions:
Superheros-
-Marvel Toys Discussion For Toybiz, Hasbro, Marvel Select, Hot Toys... anything Marvel
-DC Toys Discussion For Mattel, Hasbro, Kenner, DC Direct, Hot Toys, ect
-General Discussion Spawn, McFarlane, Image, ect
Scifi/Fantasy-
-Star Wars Toys Discussion
-MotU Toys Discussion
-Star Trek Toys Discussion
-Transformer Toys Discussion
-LotR Toys Discussion
-GD
Military/Adventure- (I know there are a few more that fit in this, but I'm so far outside this group I don't know any by name)
-GI Joe Toys Discussion
-GD
Entertainment Toys-
Movies/TV Toys Discussion
Videogames Toys Discussion

I personally am more fond of the breaking it down by company, but this might be more streamlined, makes more people happy, and might be closer to what you're trying to do.

No offense intended, and in all fairness, for the most part, the staff at ToyArk has created a very fun place for the toy collecting community to chat and grow, but has anyone noticed that at least lately, these major changes that have been introduced have achieved mainly one thing very well? Dissension amongst the forum members. With the ToyArk Experience, it was: Pro-Contests vs. Anti-Contests, Veteran Members vs. New Members. Now it's Marvel Fans vs. Everyone Else (Even fellow Marvel collectors who just happen to like more than just Marvel), Pro-New Format/Anti-New Format. Civil War sucks. LOL.

Yeah, I've noticed. I just like to talk about toys, movies, and comics,..... and some of them aren't Marvel related. If everything but Marvel ended up lumped together it would be impossible to keep track of anything new or relevant to me unless I dug through page after page of random crap, which doesn't sound practical to me at all.

proteus 02-28-2012 04:14 PM

Well having the DC,SW,MOTU logo sidebars back should fix that right?? Click one side for news the other side for the forum,i know its not broken down into specifics but browsing through the threads give you more chance to see something you might have previously missed, rather than the top 5 threads recurring time after time, thats gotta be better surely??

D00MTR0N 02-28-2012 04:16 PM

damn this thread is 4 pages?

proteus 02-28-2012 04:22 PM

Well hopefully with sidebars being returned people will cool off and it wont make 5,but we could just keep it going????

D00MTR0N 02-28-2012 04:23 PM

glad I dont like dc.

Tiberius 02-28-2012 04:37 PM

I like that the sidebars are back at least. Maybe Marvel should get its own site hahahaha.

haha,well played man \m/

proteus 02-28-2012 04:46 PM

Hahaha ahem...its not that different now the sidebars are back though is it?? The only real difference is the thread bar not being there to shortcut straight through to the discussion,if its that big a problem then regardless of "traffic" maybe the Marvel Thread bar should go too,(leaving the general discussion+custom threads on the side bar)we're all in the same boat then!! Lets face it,its usually the same 3or4 threads that dominate both the Marvel+DC sidebars anyway,so its those threads, more often than not that will always be at the top of the forum listings, and to be honest im really disappointed with the amount of people threatening to leave over this,so much for a sense of community and friendship,we are the people who make this site,so instead of hissyfits and angry chestbeating lets work together to make the best of this situation for each other as well as ourselves, just try out the new logo-ised sidebars for a week and if people dont like em we can ALL try to find a solution thats best for everyone, and leaves no-one alienated........

bmorr 02-28-2012 05:46 PM

the liked the sidebars the way they were before. why couldnt you guys just leave well enough alone, we're a small community anyways.

CLASSIFIED 02-28-2012 05:57 PM

I think you should restructure the forums to suit my specific needs.

proteus 02-29-2012 04:59 PM

Any chance of getting new threads from ALL four of the Creative forum sub groups to show up on the Latest customs and Fan art sidebar?? Seems kinda silly to have gone to the trouble of adding a new sidebar that only shows half the topics,it seems like we have to force people to the Creative forum at gunpoint as it is,how are we expecting people to answer questions, see WiPs etc when they dont even show up to catch peoples eye??

Tony_Bacala 02-29-2012 05:42 PM

That should be doable. However, do you want the Creative GD there too? Personally, I think that threads with images are more useful to the new guy jumping in. Whatever they click on, they are rewarded with some pretty stuff :).

But, if you guys really want the CGD threads, can be done.

I admit I was a little too focused on the issue at hand and was only considering Marvel vs. DC when I included that throw-away comment. I totally agree with you, Star Wars & Joes are just as rad as Marvel at 3.75. Sorry that inadvertent omission temporarily thread-jacked the discussion.

Tagging + the Sidebar works for my needs. Just 1-click gets me back to what I would have been looking at in the previous version.

Thanks for working with us on a solution.

Not sure if I'm the only one but I am so used to side panel banned ads on the internet (not talking about this site), that previously my eyes completely skipped that NEWS/FORUM shortcut section like it wasn't even there.

It'd be a shame to change it since it looks so nice, but for people trained to ignore fancy looking boxes on side panels, it might be more effective as text. I am sure this is one of those things that make website designers cringe to hear.

If it was missed above *** THANK YOU *** for implementing an alternative to the single-pool thread.

Now everybody remember to tag any of your personal new/original threads so we can find your new content. Just please don't over-tag posts with unrelated tags just to get more views, you will only incite everyone's rage. :)

Tony_Bacala 02-29-2012 06:31 PM

If anyone sees a thread that is improperly tagged, just use the report post feature to alert us, and we will try to clean it up for you. You can do that by clicking this button http://www.toyark.com/images/toyark-.../threadban.png on any post in the thread, and leaving a note that the tags are inappropriate.

Hopefully we won't need that.

I dont think it "thread-jacked" anything,I just didnt see where you were coming from.

ToyAddict 02-29-2012 08:13 PM

Yes, I echo hrothgars in saying "thank you" mods for making some more changes after the initial overhaul. It seems like, if something had to change, this will be tolerable. And yeah, I had never used the NEWS and FORUM links before either. I had always used the sidebar.

Still haven't taken my traffic to threads other than DC though. Except for the Avengers trailer on the main page today.

Thanks for the amendment Tony, and thanks for adding the thumbnails to my posts too!! I had tried to do it,but the PC i was using kept coming up with "internet explorer cannot display the page" everytime i clicked the upload button in the manage attachments pop-up!!!

thechris 03-01-2012 03:11 AM

This new set up is kind of working for me. Good job, guys! :)
