Ah yes, Rage of Ultron was a delight to read (and you can't say no to some Jerome Opena artwork). Has Hank Pym been seen in the MU since his.. uh.. metamorphosis? |

I got the checkout person to reduce it to $30 as shown online. Hulk is more fun to mess with than I figured, but I got this for Ultron and Vision and they were worth it. I don't collect too many Legends but the deal was too good to resist. Hasbro's obvious neglect of me and my fellow 4" collectors is driving us to the 6" scale more and more. |

That said...I just wish that they would have kept Brock around as Anti-Venom, as that origin/back story was actually quite satisfying and made sense (the whole "accidental by-product of being cured by Mister Negative" thing) as opposed to the Toxin bonding, which was a really weak set up and felt like a cop-out excuse to get Eddie back into a suit. Plus I liked how Anti-Venom would "cure" people of various afflictions, which made his approach towards other heroes and villians far more interesting than the simple brute approach that Toxin has. |

I liked Anti-Venom alright, didn't really care for the preachy tone he carried on with and the suit could've been better but the stories with it were good, including his membership on the Revengers. |

With X-men and Apoc related stuff for next year, I'd love to see a security forces 3 pack with Randall, Malcom and either Shard, or I'd take a new Bishop also.
|
X-Men related mod for anyone interested... Trying to get rid of old school ball joint hips in my display, so I stuck Toy Biz Legends Xavier's head on a spare Chameleon body and went back to my old TBL Magneto's body and stuck the TRU exclusive Mag's head and arms on (to get rid of the Gorilla look of the old arms). The Xavier head requires some fairly deep dremeling to fit the Chameleon neck peg, but it's easy stuff. Skin tones need to be matched as well. Digging the bulked up armored look on Magneto now compared to the TRU exclusive figure, but I may switch the heads back and forth depending on if I want helmeted or helmetless... anyways, smoke 'em if you got 'em. =)

@ultraman zoffy
I always enjoy your 'improvements', Zoffy! You make smart adjustments to figs that I wish Hasbro was insightful enough to implement. Your full-on customs are also noteworthy. That Paul Smith era Cyclops was super-dope! It brought me back to my personal glory days of X-fandom, when I read the books as a child while listening to Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams. lol Now if you'd just be so kind to show us that Phoenix you were working on back when...:D Speaking of the Paul Smith era, in combination with the recent convo of Rogue's origins, reminds me of a fig from that time that I really want personally. Can we get a Carol Danvers as Binary? That would really make my day!...a couple of days, really! |
Thanks TBM! Your post made me think of my early exposure to X-men (of course, right at the beginning of Smith's run!) which was basically sneaking into my older cousin's mint comic collection and reading from his stash. =) Phoenix is sitting in storage only half done, but I'll bring her out once I'm in my new house. And yes, BINARY WOULD BE SICK! Might need to take that one some day.
|
Binary would be cool and all , but WHEN will I get to have the Heralds of Galactus ( and I mean the classic ones not all that newer weird ones) ???? Firelord, Airwalker, Frankie Raye/Nova, and Morg.
|
Finally got my hands on a Scarlet Spider, and I've gotta say, he's one of those perfectly executed Marvel Legends! No weird veins on his pecs (Bucky Cap) or leathery feet with smooth shins (Daredevil) or trigger fingers on characters that don't use guns (Ghost Rider) As you can tell, I'm very picky :D
|
It would be awesome if we got Binary, Rambeau or Classic/Dark Ms. Marvel in a Walgreen's exclusive
speaking of dreams, A dream Captain Marvel line would be Movie Captain Marvel Classic/Dark Ms Marvel Kamala Kahn Mar-Vell Monica Rambeau swap with America Chavez Kree Soldier |

@Phantomcrow & @TBM
I really need to go back and read the older cosmic stuff. I never read it during the days of Binary or most of those Heralds. That being said....I will still back you both for those and hope that (continuing to beat the dead horse...seriously this thing is glue by now) my DnA Guardians come along for the ride. As for FF, I'm cool with that too simply since that unlocks more Skrulls and what not...oh and TBM needs another Silver Surfer LOL! :D Speaking of, what would you think of the pizza Spidey buck for Surfer? I prefer the leaner swimmer physique Surfer and that buck would work well for surfing poses. |

A Binary would be cool, I would buy that. I really like the idea for the Captain Marvel wave/set. Anything to get us a Monica R. figure in any style would be great - she's one of the few I like her classic iconic look as much as her current look as Spectrum, so either would be fine by me.

My iconic artists for Silver Surfer are Jack 'King' Kirby, John Buscema, and Ron Lim. All of these artists captured what I believe to be the best look for Surfer. My recollections of King Kirby's version of the Silver Surfer, while surely no 'Thor', was of a broad shouldered and thickly corded/muscled body type. Norrin definitely seemed larger than the Human Torch, who in my opinion, is closer in size to Spider-Man. John Buscema's rendition of Marvel's sentinel of the spaceways ushered in a thinner version that may capture more of the look to which you alluded. That's said, Surfer shared the same physique that the Buscema family used for Iron Man and Vision body-types: not ripped nor enormous, but imposing and larger than average. Ron Lim's run on Surfer, which created iconic looks for both Surfer and Thanos, featured Mr. Radd as a combination of King Kirby's and John Buscema's take on the hero. Lim's Surfer was highly vascular, corded, and graceful looking all at once. I'm not suggesting that Surfer hasn't been depicted as a lithe figure within comics (John Byrne had a great take, although slightly 'gaunt-Surfer'), I'm simply stating that he was initially portrayed as otherwise and has been depicted as imposing (if not overwhelming) in equal measure. With my (note the use of "my": these are subjective takes not absolutes) 'look' out of the way, I'll now address the proper buck. Let me start by saying that I LOVE Pizza Spidey. He represents Spidey in my favorite incarnation: Spider-Man who is no longer a teen, with the fully formed and filled out physique of an athletic post-college aged male. If you look at John Romita Jr illustrations of Spidey circa the 80's (the height of his work on Spidey IMO), you'll see 'Pizza Spidey'. The buck is great and the added shoulder articulation would be wonderful for the Surfer. However, the buck tracks a tad too small. This would be similar (but far from the same given the poor sculpt) to Hasbro's mistake in using that Surfer/Vision/Claw sculpt. The Surfer is not small, petite, or even average in build nor height (although it has become popular to depict him so). Is the Surfer smaller than Daredevil? Is Surfer smaller than Hawkeye? Is the Surfer smaller than Panther? Is the Surfer smaller than Machine Man? Wolverine? Again, the Pizza Spidey buck is hands down one of the best (if not THE best) bucks Hasbro has ever cobbled and I adore it. If Hasbro used Pizza-Spidey for Surfer, it wouldn't be a deal breaker given the shoulder articulation, but I want more...at the very least, that Panther buck. |
We absolutely need a new Silver Surfer, for the very reasons that TBM laid out. Surfer is not a hulking bulk of muscle but he's not a petite swimmer's build either. I think the Grim Reaper bulk would look great on him.
If F4 figures are going to make a reappearance, which I hope they are, I will hold out hope for two figures mainly: Wizard and Attuma. Attuma I'd love to see as a BAF - he, Giant Man/Atlas and Kingpin are the non-X-related BAF's I'd love to see. And Wizard would complete the main players in the Acts Of Vengeance storyline, as far as villains go. Although I would not complain about a new Mandarin either (just not the damn movie "version" please..grumble mumble...) |
Looking back at Ron Lim's artwork (which to me is definitive Surfer), the Bucky Cap mold would best suit him. I think I'll experiment using the Target 3-pack clear Vision as a Surfer base and see how that works out.
