Well... here's the quick and dirty of Surfer on the Bucky Cap (well, clear Vision) body. Hit him with several layers of steel and aluminum paint, then gave him a faint clear blue dusting for some accent. Magnets in his feet, and he's pretty good looking. But like Kirathis said, this body is ready to be put out to pasture now. The wobbly hips issue is probably a good indication that the mold is almost donezo. Lol

Hasbro needs to get some new molds going. I know it's been said, but it's true. |
Saw diamond selects mini-mates new Deadpool wave and i thought that if marvel legends had a deadpool wave think it should be fairly similar with agent bob, a rebooted domino , siren , and cable and obviously deadpool

@Kirathis
lol You brought up Surfer, not me! Scale issues abound within Hasbro's run on the license and Wolverine is only one of many casualties. That said, the best Wolverines for 'scale' are the series 6 and series 12 molds (both Toy Biz), with 12 winning out for being the most accurate (IMO). The most egregious of Hasbro's faux pas in scale are Thor, Crossbones, and the entire Wrecking Crew. They all stand as tall as Warpath, who is a seven-footer in the comics. Last I checked, none of those characters were that tall. Scale issues have always been a problem within comics as well. Artists and writers take liberties and have their own favorite characters. Fan ideals also affect presentation. The popularity of Iron Man has given him at least 4" over the years that I've known him. As far as Surfer and your reference to which comics you draw your experience from, I agree. It's all subjective. The artists I mentioned earlier are largely considered iconic at Marvel. The 'King' is a legend, the Buscemas created a standard for all Marvel artists in the 60's that carried well into 80's and 90's, and Lim is largely responsible for the 'modern' look of Thanos (the cherished Marvel Select Thanos is the spitting image of his art). Not to disparage Tang En Haut, but I wasn't a big fan of his art on Annihilators. The book in general was a miss and I was more of a fan of the potential for that team, but it fell short because the writers (DnA) tried to bake-in the humor found in GotG with heroes that were much more serious and powerful. I see where you are coming from with Surfer's stature within the Annihilators line-up. However, when I look at that line-up I see Gladiator who has always been portrayed as a very large man, Beta Ray Bill who is larger than Thor, and Ronan who is literally a giant in the comics (a fact that Haut didn't portray well with his odd proportions). As for Nova, he's not small either (and has been illustrated as being roughly the same size as Surfer). As a member of The New Warriors, Nova may have seemed small due to Rage being so huge. I think artists and fans consider Surfer based on 'human' water-sports activities, hence "he should look like a swimmer." When you really think about it, surfer physiques have no meaning to Galactus or Surfer lol The name and the way he travels is more of a cosmic coincidence...and marvel wanting to appeal to teens in the 6o's ;) In the end, everyone has their own personal interpretation of their favorite heroes! @Zoffy Thank you for giving me a glimpse of how spectacular Surfer will look on a new buck!!! |

To be fair Kirathis, the Astonishing Wolverine that was released in the Toy Biz Apocalypse BAF wave was fairly tiny, and is close to the scale in terms of height that you were mentioning. (It also happens to be my personal favorite Wolverine figure.)

What are the expectations we will see some ANAD Marvel figures next year? I'm in a way shocked we haven't seen FalCap, She-Thor and the new Ms. Marvel, as well as Sam Nova, yet. I'm betting those do come next year (maybe not Nova but the rest) Do you think we'll see the likes of characters like Red Fox, Wolverina, OML any time soon? The last two maybe in that X-Wave...

@Zoffy
Great job on the Surfer! It would work well if they went that route. @TBM I cannot disagree with your overall review of The Annihilators. Definitely not my favorite but it worked from an image standpoint. It would be nice to get some kind of consistency both in comics and figures with the size of characters. I realize every artist has their own interpretation but it gets out of hand. Your points and Zoffy's custom have definitely opened me up to a larger physique Surfer. I will be curious to see if a new one gets made at some point what they choose to use. |

@Kirathis
I like your suggestion of greater articulation in the shoulders. Maybe they could create a new buck specifically for this purpose. I'm always down for new bucks! Of course, I also need swap-out hands for any new Surfer: power cosmic blasting hands and fists. We'd also need 'Kirby crackle' power globe accessories to go over the fists! Silver Surfer deserves the full treatment considering there isn't much going on in the way of a costume... Edit: @redfox ...Nextwave was an awesomely fun read! |
I miss Nextwave so much

Quick question on the topic of arms and hands.
Did Hasbro Use the Klaw buck for any other figures? I like how small he is and wanted to use it for a custom, but I need someone with...you know...two arms and hands, lol. *Edit: Pizza Spider-Man is probably a better choice for what I want, I hate the hips that Klaw has... |
@Dubious
Klaw/Vision(Hasbro)/Surfer(Hasbro)/Iceman(Hasbro) = same buck. |
