That could be a cool toy. Why can't they have both like DC's Hawkman and Hawkgirl.

kylactus 07-15-2014 12:37 PM

I'm sure that will get put out really quick, like Wasp. It only took Hasbro about half a decade to get that founding member of the Avengers on my shelf.

En Sabah Nerd 07-15-2014 01:16 PM

Looking at upcoming issues and previews, Thor will still be around but using Jarnbjorn instead. I guess he loses the right to Mjolnir as result of his actions in the past when he enchanted Jarnbjorn out of pride and has now caused the death of a Celestial and previously the Earth. I don't think this will last very long though, just like Steve Rogers no longer being the cap'n won't last. Things change, but seem to always return to formula, and now with the movies acting as a major interest boom the comics like to ride on those interests. Good examples: The Avengers teases Thanos and then Thanos is suddenly brought back from the dead, the Amazing Spider-Man uses The Lizard and then in the comics Lizard becomes the main villain for a stretch (same for ASM2 with Electro), and I'm sure that when the movie is close to releasing Apocalypse will become a world-shattering villain again for the comics. So while this new character (or not so new apparently) may stick around after Thor reclaims his right to use Mjolnir, they'll probably be like Beta-Ray Bill where they get their own version of Mjolnir, but not the original. Hopefully it's some good reading and maybe, just maybe, we might see a figure out of it. Though I would feel hurt that we see a brand new character in figure before one of many more deserving older characters.

60 hours to go until SDCC.......................

Lionheart 07-15-2014 02:27 PM

Thor is the Norse god of thunder. Thor is a male god. I don't understand how they can change the gender and still have the character as 'Thor'?

It would be like making 'Venus' or 'Aphrodite' a man. Odd choice.

As far as I'm concerned Valkyrie was a female-ish Thor, and she was from the legit mythos (more or less).

Dont get me wrong I love a beautiful woman but this is some f*cked up. How you just going to take the thunderers name? I think the writer need to grow a set of man balls and tell his girl friend or wife to leave the comics to him. :)

kylactus 07-15-2014 03:41 PM

ya know, I get that you need to change things up every now and then, "kill" off a main character, put a different person in the costume. these things to keep it fresh. That said, they have gone to this well to damn many times lately! Bucky cap, Rhodes Iron man, That guy that took over the Thor title after Fear itself. It's getting nuts!

xMostWanted559x 07-15-2014 04:09 PM

Guy who was supposed to split comic pack lot with me isn't reponding...maybe he doesn't want it anymore?

Bucky Cap'n was too long ago and too well done to criticize now, Rhodes Iron Man from very recent was never meant to last (no one ever said "now Rhodey is Iron Man!"), but this just feels weird. As I recently posted, I don't think it'll last, but either way it's about as weird as when Loki became a woman, but even that was different because it was still *the* Loki. Technically here *the* Thor can meet "Thor" and wonder why they stole his name. Eric Masterson did it while Thor was dead (or away at the least), so that was more like Bucky being cap, this would be like Beta-Ray Bill declaring himself the one and only Thor when he took Mjolnir the first time.
Side note: if we get this "Thor" before Annihilus, Moonstone, Gamora, etc. then I'm likely to throw it if I see it in a store.

NoodleChow 07-15-2014 04:19 PM

I wouldn't mind getting an ML of this female Thor. Kinda dig the Masterson looking helmet she's sporting.

En Sabah Nerd 07-15-2014 04:32 PM

Her helmet reminds me of Wasp's every now and then helmet.

Not quite, different character holds Mjolnir now. Thor is Thor, and this new character is also "Thor", it doesn't make a great deal of sense, but it's what they want to do for a while. Again, not like how Loki became a woman, but like how Bucky became Cap'n.

NoodleChow 07-15-2014 05:30 PM

Yeah, different person. Figure they're doing the whole Thor as both name and title/codename if this one decides to use it. Guess we'll see when the comic hits.

just going with the thought that they will try to cram the change down our throats to make it legit. Given the AoU due to come out I don't see this as a lasting change. Same with the new Non Steve Rogers Captain America. In the last two years Marvel has redone Spiderman,CA,Thor and IM.

samsson37 07-15-2014 07:15 PM

This has to do with the whole Marvel NOW time jump..from the cover art..it looks like falcon is now cap, cap just lost the super solider serum(again) and is the old man leader behind the team type...Thor uses the Celestiel killing axe and looks like he lost his arm(you see that as old man Thor in the Thor comics) and this new chick (maybe Angela since she is thors older sister i think is deemed worthy) so yeah well see how this plays out but it seems as all part of the grand plan they have scoped out for the avengers...not just a publicity stunt on the book cause Thor is selling pretty well and has one of the best stories going ..if you haven't seen it checkout old Thors fight with Galactus...its funny and freaking epic !!!!!! Now back to toys !!!

Whoa whoa, hold yer horses. Since when is Angela Thor's older sister (and being related to Thor wouldn't matter, Loki is his brother and he can't use Mjolnir). I've never really cared for Angela being brought to Marvel, they might as well have made a new character, since I've always been a pretty big fan of Spawn. Her death in Spawn #100 was pretty well handled and a worthy send off. Bringing her back, and in Marvel no less, seemed unnecessary and confusing. At least they've kept that she's an angel (no longer from Heaven now), but they've also been muddy and purposefully unclear on her total origins I thought as a subtle nod to Spawn fans. That being said, as a character I feel they've made changes to Angela for the less. She was originally a Spawn hunter which involved being a trickster and temptress for the sake of trophies, now she's somewhat noble and medieval in a fantasy way. All comic feelings aside, I would want an Angela figure from MI, just because of Spawn.

I like your list samsson37, mantis would be great especially with marvels GOTG emphasis.

Earth X thor was female... An actual transgender version if I remember right...I always wondered why my gay friends loved thor so much until I saw earth x thor, I love my LGBT friends lol. Also there was rescue pepper and American Dream, rule 63 at its finest.

Nice mistress death redfox!

I feel like calling Death "Thanos' mistress" implies he already has a wife, also why doesn't Deadpool love Death anymore, does Death still love Deadpool? Is this the most intriguing love triangle in comic lore?!
