Has anybody noticed people on eBay that have put knock off Carnage figures in original boxes with real BAF parts and are selling them as official unopened Hasbro product?

Marvel Legends Build Green Goblin Amazing Spiderman Carnage Spawn of Symbiotes | eBay

PlayTime 11-16-2015 05:23 PM

I've seen loose ones that look a little sketchy, but nothing NIB.

This hobby is turning nasty. I wouldn't really have thought about having to double check a couple years ago.

daetrin 11-16-2015 05:25 PM

Please correct me if I'm wrong though.
Would hate to wrong somebody.

warmachine6 11-16-2015 05:43 PM

i found by looking at those links, that either tendrils are missing or in the wrong place. I hope people do their homework before buying carnage or any other figure

TheBlueMarvel 11-16-2015 05:54 PM

I was going to ask what the 'tell' was for a KO carnage, but Warmachine answered the question before I even asked. My next question: has Hasbro's Carnage become so expensive that a KO becomes necessary or lucrative? Searches of eBay turn up opportunities to secure one for under twenty bucks...

PlayTime 11-16-2015 05:55 PM

Tendrils are definitely missing. Though I cant imagine why anyone would snag them. Unless of course they are KO version that did not come with any.

EDIT:
But people do like to rip people off ...

The tell is supposed to be the mouth being open a lot wider.

Thanks, I didn't feel like digging out my Carnage. I'm still confused as to the 'why?' of this matter, but I guess the quick answer is 'because we can'...

This is not a variant it is the Valkyrie from the TRU 2 pack w/ Hulk and the leg belongs to Arkillio from the Green Lantern Classics BAF. But still an a-hole for parts and figure swapping.

Sure, no problem.
The profit margin does indeed seem rather ridiculous.
Which in turn makes it more believable that the product is real.
Shame though.
Would love to see people put this much effort into creating rather than copying.

Looks like he took this while it was still on the shelf at the store, so it's (probably) not the seller being dishonest, just misinformed...

Funny thing is, that Valkyrie still sells for twice as much as the new one...seems like a losing proposition just to gain a Hulkbuster part.

I'm not sure these KO producers are 'creating' anything. I've read blog speculation that these bootleg figs are the products of factory workers in China that have managed to get a hold of 'master molds' (whatever that may be). However, I've never read anything concrete to support the rumors. Maybe Vice or Rolling Stone will expose the inner workings of this underground cabal! :D

I'd prefer the repacker would have just stole the item than do this. If your gonna do a Dick move be a man about it not a douche.

PlayTime 11-16-2015 07:15 PM

Just to be clear, that quote wasn't mine about the Valkyrie being a variant. I took that from the auction.

vriverajr3 11-16-2015 09:04 PM

Just wanted to say thanks to RAF for the 3 pack. I'ts really appreciated by me, and I'm sure it will be even more appreciated by my son when he gets it for Christmas. Thank you

Charliegone 11-17-2015 02:09 AM

Am I the only one that feels that I shouldn't shell out 100 bucks for a ML Rescue figure? I honestly feel like it's not worth that much considering what we are getting.

You're welcome! I'm happy you received it my friend...

Since we're talking about knock offs, was there a knock off Ultimate Beetle? I picked up a second Beetle a few month ago for a custom. I got it from Target. I got around to working on it the other day. Ever since I got it, the whole figure felt floppy. The legs felt really bad, I was worried that he might not stand on his own. I was painting him the other day, the paint wasn't stuck in between any joints or anything, and his left left just fell apart.
Meanwhile, the first Beetle that I have is fine, he's sturdy as can be. I think I'll just use that for the custom since I don't think this version will ever make it to the main Marvel continuity (which is all I really collect).

You are not alone. I wish I had pulled the trigger when it first hit eBay and was selling for half that price. I'm not a fan of the 'extremis' armor legs....Zoffy made a nifty alteration to the legs (I think), but without improvements along those lines and the addition of Pepper's head...I can't justify purchase. I doubt the $100 price-tag will come down anytime soon...if at all.

Maybe Hasbro issued a re-run of the fig with a different grade of plastic? I definitely noticed the difference in its plastic vs the other figures released at that time. It had a strange tensile strength, while seeming lighter (almost hollow) than other figs. I only have the original one, so I can't speculate from a comparative perspective.

What are you customizing it into? I always thought it'd make a good base for a Mach V...

Yeah, I mean maybe I would pay that much if it came with like extra heads, hands, etc swappable parts, diorama something! Just a figure with a new female body and head? ..I don't know. Maybe someone in the future will make a mold of the body and I can just buy that and just use the extremis iron man parts (which are plentiful right now) to finish it. Beats the heck out of paying 100 plus bucks!

As for the plastic on figures. Yup. It felt like that cheap plastic they used on the Groot wave. I know exactly what Spyne is talking about. It could be it wasn't allowed to dry long enough, used a different mixture of plastics before painting the figure? Pretty sure it's one of those things. My guess Hasbro probably used someone else (cheaper maybe?) to get the job done. I still can't get over the terrible plastic on the Groot wave figures. Felt like laffy taffy or something like that. I have noticed lately though they did improve the quality, although I haven't even opened the Spiderman Rhino wave figures yet (still setting up my display cabinets).

I was turning it into a mash up of the regular costume and the ultimate style. All the red was getting painted green, all the silver was purple. I have a digibash of it on my home computer. I'll try to post it later today.

The Groot wave plastic is awful. I love Nova's look, but the plastic is so very bad. However, I have had no issues with the Rhino wave. Kraven is a little iffy, but not too bad.
