Kinda out of Legends collecting now, but I thought I'd logon and post that I can't stand that electric slide song or the dance routine associated with it... that is all. =)

It was either that or DJ Bobo thanks to the Morbius front and center...but I feared fewer people would get the DJ Bobo reference.

WTF did I just watch? Oh god that was terrible.

You don't seem too crazy about the 2016 line-up, so far. I don't blame you, considering my only standouts were Absorbing Man/Morbius/Speed Demon/Beetle(new female buck implications). The others? Meh...

This year, Hasbro has predicted more Legends than ever before, but I'm expecting many misses for a large number of fans. If they can entice me with 4 out of 7 of a wave, I'll nab the set. I'm on the hook for the upcoming Cap wave because I plan to build Onslaught and desire 4 of the other figs. Beyond the Cap wave? I'm not so sure. I'm likely in for the X-men and Hulk Wave (I think we may get one this year) and then there's SDCC...I'm hoping for some breaks throughout.

I'm with you in that I'm hoping for breaks in-between, but I'm looking forward to what Hasbro's got in store. The second half of 2015 I felt major collector burnout because of Transformers (too much mold reuse + not as many worth the rising prices for me), but Marvel Legends ended up blowing me away and got me excited to collect again. I think I've bought three TFs in the past four months, but probably a dozen and a half MLs in the same time period.

Is there a rumored Hulk wave? I'm curious to see who would be in that. Maybe Bi-Beast?

Captain Nash 01-08-2016 10:36 AM

I have hope for this year but I definitely am planning on cutting back. Like TBM if I think I'll buy 4/7 of a wave I'll likely get the BAF IF it's a BAF I'd be interested in. If it's a remold or something I have no care for I may still not, that's still another $60 I'd be spending.

I will likely not be buying a wave just to get a BAF - I honestly think the only time I did that was the Hulkbuster wave. There would be 2-3 characters I may retract that statement on, so long as there's a couple of figures in the wave I'd want.

Based on the first two wave reveals (the first Spiderman and then CA: CW) and then the rumors of the second Spiderman wave, I can see me sticking true to that. IF the rumors for the X-Men wave hold true, that's another likelihood of me doing piecemeal. Of course, if the rumors are wrong I may get the entire wave that will be a big one to just depend on. Actually that may be the wave where I decide I'm mostly out or not.

Maybe I'm not as hopeful as I thought. :(

The intertube rumble is speculating a Hulk wave, given the tease of a BAF Abomination. Which is more than fine with me since I'm a big Hulk fan.

I'm impressed that you would mention Bi-Beast. I doubt that most people who consider themselves to be significant Hulk (and Thor) fans even know who Bi-Beast is, let alone call for him to be made. If they do make him, which I'd love, he won't be on the cancelled prototype. It will be a new sculpt. This suits me just fine, because I'll simply add it to my acquisition of the original prototype...

Spyne98 01-08-2016 11:02 AM

More waves than ever this year? Oh wow. I'm a bit of a completest. The only things I don't really go for are movie style figures, so I may get lucky if we get movie waves. However, the BAFs are always something I'm interested in. I would be annoyed if we have a whole movie wave and the BAF is a comic guy. Unless I buy it all and sell the figures to try to get some money back. I'll have to see what happens.
Out of curiosity, am I the only one who buys everyone anymore? I like having not just every character, but any different representation of their costumes too. And then there's the customs I work on. I swear that this year, I won't take on any new projects until I finish the 30+ I have planned.

TheBlueMarvel 01-08-2016 11:15 AM

@Spyne

You're not alone. Since the return, the only wave I didn't buy in its entirety was GotG (I passed on Rocket, Drax, and Groot...they were too far afield IMO). I also passed on the first appearance X-men set (I only bought Iceman...he was the best of the lot), but I'm starting to cave.

Movie figs aren't terrible. They do feature greater sculpted detail than most comic-canon figs...

That's actually why I thought to mention Bi-Beast, because I remembered they had done a prototype. Also, I like the more unorthodox figure ideas, and a guy with two faces on one head is pretty unorthodox. Hell, I suggested a Kleinstock Brothers gestalt as a BAF in the 'create a wave' thread, twin torsos and all :D

I think the start of it was setting up my Legends display in my new collection room... the more I stare at the shelf, the more I'm realizing that 1) I'm starting to get a little tired of the repaints making me feel like I'm looking at the same figure over and over again, and 2) I really only care about having a good classic 616 version of my favorite characters on the shelf, as opposed to the more modern costumes. Also, about 80-90% of my display is mods or customs, and unique head sculpts not withstanding, I feel like punching myself each time I get a figure as part of a case that would only take me half an hour to just paint up myself using fodder I already have.
Ultimately, I've started up collecting Transformer stuff primarily, and put Legends on "highly selective cherry picking" status as the line has gotten kinda boring for me. Mockingbird, Rogue, and picking up the Onslaught BAF solo from Dorkside are the only purchases I'm making for 2016 after the Absorbing wave unless a really kick-ass first appearance Storm is announced. =) I even just sold off my BNIB SDCC 2015 exclusives to fund my TF purchases, and haven't lost a wink over it surprisingly. lol

TheBlueMarvel 01-08-2016 12:42 PM

@Zoffy

Smart, but as a custom maker, you may be a little more aware of repaints than most. Hasbro does need to to be careful not to go the DCUC route and avoid notorious buck-abuse. I was excited to see that the Beetle featured a new torso with sculpted details. The more bucks, the better...

I'd be all over a classic 'Roro too...

Agreed, and as someone who has a half-and-half collection of DCUC and ML figures, Hasbro already gets props for having more than one buck per gender to recycle. Probably about 2/3 of the male DCUC figures we have use the exact same buck with only minor differences in tooling, whereas the ML at least have a bit more variety. And that's not even getting into DCUC's failings with female buck variety - I look at Wonder Woman and Big Barda, who are roughly the same size as Zatanna and Harley Quinn, and then I compare them to the differences between Wasp, She-Hulk, Valkyrie, and Spider-Girl, and it makes me kind of sad.

Spyne98 01-08-2016 12:57 PM

Oh DCU and the buck abuse. The only DCU guys I ever got were Green Lantern Corp Characters. Granted, there are a few BAFs and one or 2 unique molds in there, but otherwise my GL's just look like a bunch of clones. I like having multiple bucks. It adds a lot to a display. Maybe Hasbro will premier some new ones at Toy Fair?

Captain Nash 01-08-2016 01:26 PM

well dang, the mail carrier just dropped off my packages for Morbuis and Jack. Impressive..most impressive, two weeks before the original delivery date. I will keep the BAF parts though I think, because thinking on it, it may be I end up getting 5 of these figures, and if I do that I may as well get them all...I'll just wait for retail though I think as the other characters are not "must haves" and the Legends line does seem to be stocking fairly current in my area.

I know though, speaking of figures, I really need to cut back. I have something like close to 200 different characters alone (that's one count per character, not including redos, alt. costumes and such.) I really ought to just focus on only getting characters say in my top 40, if they should be released. So hard to do though. :(

I think the turning point for myself and most collectors is when you're forced to pack up your entire collection and move it. That situation alone tends to be a very eye-opening experience in letting a collector know when things might just be out of hand... lol.

That is actually something I will be doing this year - getting a new house built, will probably be done around October. My figures have been in plastic bins for years now as I do not have room to display them, which is sad, because that means i buy them and throw them in the box and that's it. I just "have" them. This new house though is going to have nearly twice the space and I will have room to display them.

Wanted to add, as well as the whole being awful at taking pictures on general, this is why no pictures ever show up of my collection. It's just...too much trouble :(

So packing them up is already kind of done but I think that finally being able to set them up will make me realize I've gone overboard. But who's counting. :p

warmachine6 01-08-2016 02:21 PM

i want a new storm figure , if we get one this year [doubtfully]

Personally, I had no problem with the buck system of DCUC (at least with the males, the females were an entirely different story...) The way I saw it, it was supposed to be a unified looking line in the Four Horseman style. It's just like the Ed McGuinness toyline from DC Direct, where everybody had the same beefcake proportions. Don't get me wrong, I love the variety of bodies for ML, but up until recently they didn't really seem to know who'd work on what body (IE: Cap'n America & Magneto on the Punisher body, Big Time & FF Spidey on the Bullseye body, etc...)

I love the DCUC line and 4Hr even more. I also acknowledge that far too many repaints were introduced to the mix. And recently, Hasbro has been reminding me of what I didn't like in DCUC. The trade off is that character variety is going up, just as it did in the DCUC line. I can deal with the trade off.

Kirathis 01-08-2016 04:05 PM

Wow, the thread has been busy today.

Like most I have been rather underwhelmed by the announcements so far this year. I expect I will be heavily cherry-picking most of the waves. Like TBM and Nash I will be cutting back.

I did it for awhile but stopped mid last year when I realized most of it was just to obtain a BAF or a result of my completionist mentality.

That has become my issue. Like Nash I have nearly no room. I have a small 1 bedroom apartment so display space is limited. I buy figures, they get unboxed and then generally end up in the plastic bins just like Nash described. Kind of takes some of the fun out of it.

I realized a few weeks back that nearly my entire bedroom closet and part of the floor is taken up with boxes of toys of some kind or another that I have not looked at in years. There were boxes upon boxes of toys from my childhood. I started going through my Transformers collection and all the old Toybiz Marvel figures getting most of them ready to sell off just so I can clear space.

Trust me, once you get them displayed, you might want more. :p I used to have all of my MLs in boxes, but since investing in a cabinet and putting select groups/teams in there, you feel the need to complete them as much as you can. For me, that includes skipping out on official figures to pay for customs of characters you really want.

Ffff..! No matter what they do with her (and that includes the ToyBiz miniature head on small body), Storm will always be a figure to buy. I could get dozens of her in every costume she's ever worn, she's just that appealing to look at. I suppose that's why she's generally regarded as Marvel's foremost female character, Ororo has a presence that will not be ignored.

Hasbro may not have ignored her, but making her one per case in an extremely limited run exclusive wave with the crappiest distribution of that year wasn't too far off. =P

Starlord67 01-08-2016 04:24 PM

I vote for a classic Storm!! She is a must have!!

Hahaha, touché indeed! Something must have happened with the Marvel/Fox feud to stoke that fire, because making two of the most requested figures (Storm and Jubilee) part of such a poorly distributed exclusive series was an awful, awful business decision.

donmeca2020 01-08-2016 04:49 PM

yea i think a break is in order with the releases... i ended up doing the first Spider-man wave with the hobgoblin, the hulkbuster wave and did 4 figures of the rhino wave.

Hopefully they spread these ones out this year... i was kind of underwhelmed with the hulkbuster wave. i really just wante the hulkbuster itself. ended up deciding to keep war machine and marvel now iron man. the rest were so so
