^^Some nice shot there sir.

I don't care how "overhyped" he's considered to be Wolverine is and always will be the coolest.

Wolverine
Colossus
Cyclops
Rogue
Nightcrawler

They've been my top 5 favorite X-Men for as long as I've been an X-Men fan and I don't see it ever changing.

I'm actually bummed that Hugh Jackman is hanging up the claws after the next Wolverine movie but I commend him for being so committed to the character for so long. Going on 16 years now if I'm not mistaken and no matter the quality of the movie he gave some great performances.

I'm a bit bummed to see Jackman go too, but what I would really like to see is Mel Gibson cast as Old Man Logan. He would own that role.

A Youtube comment got me thinking.....will Hasbro possibly re-use that Morbius torso mold for a future classic Iron Fist figure? With Iron Fist being rumored to be in the Dr. Strange wave, what if they give us a classic Iron Fist on that body?

Granted, the peak in the collar on Morbius probably isn't deep enough for Daniel, but that hasn't stopped Hasbro before.

I think it all depends on who you were exposed to first, and who you grew up with reading. That's why, for the most part, the animated series is what resonates with the widest audience in terms of affection for X-Men.

While the first five will always be "the originals," it's Claremont/Byrne's Uncanny team that drives that idea of what X-Men is home.
For me, I'm not too picky with exact favourites, because you'll always be disappointed that they're not being utilised/used enough. I just try and enjoy who's on what team and find favourites in that particular series. The best thing about X-Comics is that anyone is always someone's favourite!

Even Maggott? I will say, there is a Marvel Legend I could do without. But you're right, pick a character and you will find that it is someone's favorite (so my apologies to the two people who hold Maggott as their favorite character.).

@BoyBlunder, Haha, I love Marrow too! And Cecelia Reyes, as well and I'd love Legends of both of those characters. But it's clear to me there was a throwaway character introduced in that era (for me especially) and Maggott was just that.

TheBlueMarvel 01-13-2016 10:40 AM

@Von

I agree that first impressions with a character guide any fan's interpretation moving forward. Many fans have been made with strong writing and well thought out concepts, which normally leads to years of devotion to a hero or team. I also believe that consistency in the presentation of a character plays a crucial role in whether a hero remains a personal favorite. However, once an established personality reaches a certain level of popularity and begins to show up in multiple titles, it becomes increasingly hard to maintain the ethos of that hero. Some writers do a good job at maintaining continuity while allowing a character to develop into something greater, and others simply see an opportunity to shoehorn a popular personality into their stories only touching on their more sensationalized traits. Unfortunately, when it's the latter, heroes start to feel long in the tooth and interest fades across the board. Wolverine happens to be one of those characters that started very strong, but after years of prostituting, he's been reduced to trope status. Marvel has jumped so many sharks with characters like Wolverine and the Punisher that there is little left to do with them other than kill them off to allow for a reset...hopefully a reset that will bring them closer to their original depth.

...and Deadpool? Feh, he's always been a super-clown in my book. I never expect much from him, nor am I ever disappointed in his portrayal. I'm ambivalent to him at best.

Boy Blunder 01-13-2016 10:51 AM

@TBM: Eh, as someone who really loves Wolverine (when he's being written well), I'd just as soon let him stay dead and see Laura continue being her own take on the name, rather than a reset. Then again, I'm a sucker for legacy heroes.

@Nash: I actually didn't mind Maggott, myself, though he did feel out of place on the team. I had hoped his appearance in Generation X would lead into him joining up with them, but alas.

TheBlueMarvel 01-13-2016 12:06 PM

@Boy Blunder

She's cool enough, I guess. I've enjoyed most of the stories I've read involving her, but I'm not a big proponent of legacy super-heroes. Beyond the unfair comparisons that are inevitably made to the source material, it's almost impossible to avoid retread. Largely, I consider it a cheap out for writers that have reached a creative wall. The scenario of too many legacy heroes, acts as the proverbial canary in a mine-shaft for a publishing house bereft of ideas. I prefer the 'original' version of most things and rather than spin altered facsimiles of what has been proven, I'd like to see new heroes. But, unfortunately, they don't make comics based only on my sensibilities! ;)

Spyne98 01-13-2016 12:23 PM

@BlueMarvel

I get what you are saying about legacies. However, my friend and I have a different idea. Now, before I go any further, I believe there are some characters in which a legacy is not an option, others there are.
Here's my take on it. Let's look at someone like Dr. Fate from DC. It's really the helmet that gives someone the power. So you should/could have someone train with the helmet to be Dr. Fate. This person trains and trains and beats all these evil things over a period of months, maybe a year or 2, maybe longer. Then, they fight the ultimate evil and they die. Total failure. Game over. So now the helmet has to find someone new. Maybe this person isn't as worthy and they fail sooner, maybe they are on par and they get just as far. And you keep writing it like this. That way, people could have their favorite Dr. Fate (kind of like Doctor Who, but not if you get what I'm saying). Anyway, eventually someone beats this ultimate evil. Then you move on, maybe a new evil rises up, maybe that last person gets corrupted and a replacement is needed and you play it like that. I'm not saying a new Dr. Fate each year, but make it a legacy like that, those who have come before you kind of thing. Give each incarnation their own strengths and weaknesses.
I would think that would make a cool legacy. In theory, you could do this with Batman or Iron Man and so on. That's my take on it.

TheBlueMarvel 01-13-2016 01:07 PM

@Spyne

Announcing that I'm not a 'proponent' of legacy doesn't make me an 'opponent' of the phenomenon. DC's moves for Dr. Fate (Kent, Inza, and Hector all doing stints as Fate) definitely established the hero as more of a 'title' than a 'character,' and I liked the implementation of the concept (and LOVE Fate). That said, I think that particular move was designed to bring Fate more in line with Strange and the concept of a 'Sorcerer Supreme' mantle. It added depth and flexibility to the character of Fate; something that Strange always enjoyed, whether that was intentional or unintentional on Marvel's part. Legacy and torch carrying characters can be very successful and well done, but the formula gets old quickly when abused. Comics have suffered though a paucity of ideas for quite a while now and the preponderance of legacy heroes serves to illustrate that fact. IMO But, everyone can like what they want...I'm just worried about the frequent choice to re-brand an aging property in lieu of going about the work of creating something new. Feels stale....

Hobie? as in the prowler??? he isn't spider-man, he's just working along side in currently in some missions in the new Amazing series.

Both pretty well said and almost completely spot on. The only thing I'll say in contradiction is that Hugh Jackman should never have been cast as Logan. Wolverine is "an ugly little runt" and Hugh Jackman is a tall, attractive guy. He's a decent actor and all, but they should have cast Glenn Danzig or some unknown who looks more like Logan.

Ah, Sarah. She is a renegade with two hearts of blood thirst. I love Marrow! Who couldn't love Marrow? I'm currently working out a custom recipe for her, funnily enough.

@Nash, Oddly I have seen some online devotion to the big guy Maggott! Oh man, Ceclia Reyes, I love her, too. Cecelia, Moira and Kavita Rao would be the collective arse-kicking medical team of the X-Men.

@TBM, This is the exact reason as to why I enjoy X-Men comics to the degree that I do. There are your typicals who float around every X-book, yet some writers enter the fray who adore a certain, particularly cult character. Be that Sam Humphries with Spiral and Puck, Matt Fraction with Madison Jeffries, Jason Aaron with Quentin Quire, Si Spurrier with Marrow, etc. Due to this love for them, they write in that consistent presentation which stays truthful to the character's history while forming new ground for development. It is this love for an underused character which creates some magnificent and fresh storytelling.

Sure, there are some characters who are conjured by writers to fill a single arc-story, a one time villain. They stay that way, stagnant, floating in Limbo, and then someone like Mike Carey pops along and brings us the sensational characters of Lady Mastermind (or, now, just Mastermind) and Omega Sentinel. Two originals crafted by Chris Claremont in his modern years, relatively unknown, and yet Carey brought them into the core of his team and the two have since become fan favourites. If writers gave a chance to the "little guy," so to speak, rather than attaching instantly to the Magnetos, the Colossuses, the Wolverines, they could whip up a new-found gem.

Great. Now I'm in 100% X-mode. Here come the requests for figures of Gentle, Skin, Lifeguard, Gorgeous George, Stacy X, Masque, Wolf Cub, etc...

Yeah, I see how it can get old. :)

Think carefully. If we get Lifeguard we would get Thunderbird III and Slipstream as well. Actually i wouldn't mind that so much, can we also have Sage and just have a full X-Treme X-Men line up, minus the Rogue that was done later on in the series? Seriously her look there was about as bad as the original ML Rogue we got, though a completely different look.

I genuinely believe that I am one of three people who quite enjoyed Neal Shaara. ... I know.
Sage! As stated earlier in the thread, she is a favourite of mine. Hopefully someone will bring her back into the fold one day.

Wht would be awesome as a SDCC exclusive would be a Hellfire Club set: Sebastian Shaw, Emma Frost, Selene, Tessa and Donald Pierce. Or Mastermind. I don't know, switch out Emma since we have several of her though she is iconic HC. I just know if they did this set I would pray they would include Selene in it, as that sort of offering is the only way we're going to get her.

TheBlueMarvel 01-13-2016 03:01 PM

@Von

Therein lies both the rub and the most optimal solution. Marvel has a very wide host of characters, but somehow this fact gets forgotten when implementing ongoing character development and focus. If your flag-bearers are getting a little moldy, and you can't muster the creative energy needed to craft new compelling heroes, then why not mine the underused legions of 'supers' you've created over the years? Why kill off a Jack of Hearts, ignore Triathlon (he was a bit of a legacy hero; 3-D Man lol), or relegate Firebird to the ranks of the "all but forgotten?" Marvel has many, as you noted, "gems" that could be easily dusted off and popularized by talented writers.

This is actually exactly what happened when DnA started the modern Guardians of the Galaxy in 2008-ish. Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot were nobodies until that glorious cosmic run. The only shame is that DnA's GotG didn't pick up the readership that something like Nova did and so when the GotG movie was announced even many actual comic readers were kinda scratching their heads which meant that Marvel had no problem giving us another Bendicide.

TheBlueMarvel 01-13-2016 03:41 PM

"Bendicide," huh? Lol I actually like Bendis' stuff, for the most part...
