@TBM, Exactly the point! Chris Claremont himself stated that he saw the X-Men as a constantly shifting roster, evolving as the characters' lives developed. I find this to be the healthiest attitude towards comics by far; change is inevitable, but writers should make it refreshing and not rehashed. That's tricky with 50+ years of continuity on your back. I wouldn't care for that job! @En Sabah, Yes that's very true, Guardians was a nothing title before DnA injected it with a brilliant, modern touch. There's so much potential with Marvel's myriad of characters, and that goes for the figures, too. Hint hint Hasbro, stop making Iron Man MLs. |

I definitely agree that legacy can be an excellent approach if done correctly. It seems DC touches on the concept more often (until recently) than Marvel but both have definitely touched on it. Regardless, it definitely depends on the character. That was always the great thing about Batman. It's the mantle that the criminals fear, not the guy behind it. With Marvel, even an icon like Cap has been proven to be more of an ideal than the man. Each person to take up the mantle was a bit different but it seems like they tend to fall into the same sort of ideal.
As for comments on overdone characters and exposure I agree to an extent. The Claremont era team was my first exposure to the X-Men and I watched the 90s cartoon as a teenager. I do think that exposure or first impressions can color an opinion of a character but I do not think it defines it. Case in point, I have made no secret of my dislike of Wolverine. However, I was actually fine with the character when I first read/watched him. My issues came later when fans and creators started trying to shove down my throat that he was this ultimate badass who could do anything and take everybody. I remember an article in Wizard years ago pitting him against major powerhouses like Silver Surfer and talking about how Wolverine could single-handedly beat him and other characters. It was that kind of asinine writing that led to my dislike of Wolverine. That being said, I have read some things where I do like him but it REALLY depends on how ridiculous the "Wolverine is the most awesomest ever!" attitude gets. I always thought he was interesting from a premise but just way too built up. Quote:

@En Sabah, Bendis isn't the only one guilty of making those changes to comics. Since X-Men came out, Marvel has bent over backwards to make sure the comics match up with the movies.

Looks like Red Onslaught's head is too big for the Coulson body, but looks good on the Nick Fury body if your preferred Red Skull wears a mask instead of having an actual face that looks like a skull (photos courtesy of marvelousnews.com)

For anyone who's interested, i just checked out this past astonishing Ant-man # 3 and guess who was texting Scott? Beetle.... apparently she's be in issue # 4. her costume seems a tad different then the current figure somewhat. in the the Ant-man comic It's Black and purple as opposed to green and purple.
Now on topic with the Bendis discussion, not quite sure if you guys frequent any comic forumns, but Bendis is a very much hated writer due to the fact of all the crap he does with the X titles and others he's involved in. quite frankly i myself am no bendis fan neither, and im usually happy when i find out whatever it is im reading for the week doesn't have him in the credits.... |

Fant4stic - Where do I want to start? How about the good? It's better than Hulk and X-Men 3. In fact, the first 45 minutes were actually pretty decent. If this had been a straight up science fiction movie about a brainy child who finds a way to travel to a parallel dimension and they set out to explore that, it would have been a good movie despite the fact that none of the cast had any chemistry. However, it goes downhill the moment they get their powers. There was absolutely NOTHING super heroey about this at all. In fact, it felt like they decided to drag out the first half hour of a super hero movie into a 100 minute movie and called it a day. Everything that occurred when "Doctor Doom" appeared and started destroying **** should have been earlier and then they actually built him up as a threat from there. Nope, they didn't do that, they just crammed him into the last 15 minutes of the movie and didn't even take the liberties to even make him resemble Doom. He is clearly the worst aspect of the movie, not to mention he was by far the worst actor here. If you want over acting, this is your man. Good god, what the hell happened here? The rest of the cast are clearly good actors, but this jackoff was phoning everything in as if he was the new Hayden Christiansen. Oh, but the worst part is, the last hour of the movie is just flat out BORING!! In the end, I give this thing no one wanted a 4/10. But hey, look on the bright side, it sure as hell ain't Jonah Hex bad.

After seeing a couple of pictures from other forums, and thinking it looked pretty decent, I decided to finally grab one of those Target 3 packs on clearance to do a Silvermane head swap once my Spider-Man wave ships...
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...113_214934.jpg http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...3_214039-1.jpg I already have Vision and have no interest in the Hulk, so I'll be selling off the bulk as a lot on Ebay before the end of the week. Anyone interested in them, lemme know in a PM and I'll send you a link once they are posted. Or shoot me an offer, so I can avoid the trouble with Ebay altogether! |

So I have a question about Morbius. I love this figure, but something just seems really off about his cape. Is it just me, or is it wrong? I mean, like really wrong as in incorrect. Unless my memory has betrayed, his cape is supposed to be more like Spider-Man's webbing and tucked under his arms, right? As such, it's not supposed to raise up as high as Hasbro put it regardless of how high he raises his arms as it is attached to this elbows.

In regards to Bendis, he didn't really handwave Star Lord's appearance change that way, did he? What a joke. As you say, he handles his own characters wonderfully, but tends to override most aspects of those who have been previously established. I do like Uncanny X-Men, though. He brought in some very interesting new characters with powers that aren't just "has a lot of eyes," "is a shark girl." |

Wait, they already did a standard Absorbing Man? Then why the hell did they turn him into a BAF?

The more they do of this the clearer it will become...and yes I'm totally a hypocrite in the case of Kingpin because I do want a Kingpin BAF. |
