Yep, works for me! However, with this being an off topic thread, should it be somewhere else other than Marvel? It doesn't really belong anywhere besides General discussion. Either way, just happy to have a place to talk about whatever to friends.

Yes, but folks were suggesting that they wanted a place to blow off steam, not about Marvel or Toys, in the Marvel forum so it was with like minded folks. That was the reasoning for creating an off topic thread in this forum. Something I've never done, but am willing to give a shot.

No keep it in Marvel. It's for (and correct me if I'm wrong) people to discuss anything but in and and around Marvel related subjects. Doesn't have to be Marvel. Just a kind of starting point.

So with that logic, doesn't every other sub forum deserve an off topic thread? I'm just confused. Everything is still in testing and I thought I would just being it up =3.

Tony_Bacala 09-18-2012 08:33 PM

If this forumula works here, we can look into copying it for DC/SW/MOTU etc. For the rest of the site, the Off Topic GD forum will serve the purpose this thread does here.

Like I said, I'm trying new things here to see what works for Toyark. Who knows where any of this will go. Toyark is always a bit different than normal.

Tiberius 09-18-2012 08:38 PM

I just want to try and understand, I can talk DC here if I wanted too [how much I enjoyed this months issue of whatever] and it will be ok as long as it isn't marvel? Repeat in other threads as long as it isn't that particular topic? If that makes sense.

Tony_Bacala 09-18-2012 08:44 PM

I would suggest posting DC Comics (or any comics) discussion in the Comics forum. There is a place dedicated for that.

The Marvel General Discussion Thread - you can technically post Marvel Comics talk there, or in the Comics Sub Forum. We are duplicating a bit there to allow Marvel Forum regulars to stay close to "home base".

Now, if DC Comics generally comes up due to overall comics talk, sure. Quick passing comments here and there. But if there is repeated comics discussion in here, I would suggest everyone move it to the Comics Sub-Forum of Toyark. So we can make that forum a strong busy place to talk as well.

Tiberius 09-18-2012 08:46 PM

Fair enough. Still just confused as to why we would have more than one off topic thread. But as you said, first time doing this so its all about test driving =3.

I didn't think of that, but the thread is named MUtant Lounge so I assumed it was a anything goes but feel free to throw in some Marvel, wink wink. So I don't know. I like the feel of a catch all thread that allows for discussions to go in any direction the poster want to go. I like the idea of having a general topic but allows in-depth conversation without the fear of going off topic. Many people that complain about the thread going off topic are the worst offenders. They complain about having to read through pages of stuff their not interested in but don't seem to mind doing the same to others.

I think a big draw on this site is Marvel. Marvel Universe and Legends. And I think a lot of people not only want to share in their love of collecting these lines but also want to expand on their knowledge of the Marvel Universe Comics. For example, I didn't know who Bastaar was before the figure was show. So it's only natural for me to say, wow who's this guy. And then for someone to explain and for maybe a discussion to evolve. That's what makes it fun to me. Some pics posted here are great, but you can only look at so many pictures or hear how much people like or dislike a figure before you're board.

It just seems that the off topic aspects of the appreciation threads was in reality the glue that held everything together. maybe I'm wrong but there is a reason it topped 2000 pages.

Tiberius 09-18-2012 10:02 PM

It doesn't bother me as much that it is gone. You got to admit, shit got hairy in there pretty quick. I am hoping my idea on organization at least gets considered about the sub forums and stuff. I just think this forum lacks organization.

PROVOST 09-18-2012 10:17 PM

G'day fellow Arkers!! :)

KungfuGrip 09-18-2012 10:23 PM

Yup along with enjoying the MU, ML lines I've also learned a lot about or got caught up with the comic world, lore and some of the characters I didn't know existsted as mentioned by Synapse.

Aw, you have the Amazing Friends tagline too? Oh well, s'all good.

synapse17 09-19-2012 12:15 AM

Man I know a lot of people are upset about the appreciation threads being closed. And I really can't blame you guys. I think it was a poor decision but I don't think we should refuse to at least give the site a chance to evolve or try new things. Maybe I'm naive but I think we at least owe it to the Ark to give them a chance to try something new and experiment. I think this whole situation was a massive fail. Although I like the MUtaint lunge.

I know many are bailing on the Ark and this makes me sad.:cry The administrators have for the most part always been reasonable if not down right cool as shit. Some rules are BS and I think they should start looking at that. But we should not be so quick to abandon our Ark. It's been a good home for us and we should not just take advantage of it in good times but also work and fight to hold onto the aspects of the Ark we love in the hard times. There have been issues on board for a long time. Issues many of us are in some way partly responsible for. A lot of BS personal attacks and in fighting that's just unnecessary.

These guys have brought us together by making a great site and hosting some great threads that we've all enjoyed for years now. We should not forget all the time and efforts these fine people have made. Stormy waters got this boat rocking but we should not allow it to sink. That would be a far worse betrayal than the removal of two thread.

It's OK to be mad and I think we should all feel inclined to voice our opinions on the matter. But at the very least allow the administrators some time to work things out before jumping ship.

Scythe 09-19-2012 12:23 AM

I shant be goin' anywhere. Nothin's gonna really compete with the traffic this place gets, always good to meet new people and make deals. The strict, strict rules which caused alot of people to panic aren't as bad since usual modding will be taking care of that.

WoRkAh0LiC 09-19-2012 12:31 AM

It seems as if the strict rules are not as strict as they were implied to be. Still, all the threads kinda give me a headache lol. I haven't been posting in any appreciation thread, but I noticed that ML Appreciation is simply dead in the water. I'm still posting here and there, bro. But I have no intention of being as active as I once was. Maybe I'll get back to that point one day. Maybe... Also, PMed you.

synapse17 09-19-2012 12:35 AM

I think they should re-open the 2 threads. Make them MU appreciation only, but not get on people if they want to link to their BBTs or post pics of customs or other lines that can enhance or complement MU and ML lines. Like GI JOE, MS, and A-Team. And then we can use this thread as a general discussion and off topic thread. That way the MUA thread will be easier and quicker to follow and catch up on, while we discuss and go off the chain up in here..

I just hate to see so many turn their backs on a place we've all called home for so long. It's unbecoming in my opinion to give up so easily.

WoRkAh0LiC 09-19-2012 12:40 AM

I pretty much agree with all of that synapse. I haven't turned my back, just taken a step to the side for a while. I'm here, just not fully. I know several others are doing the same... I also know there are others that have completely packed up, and I hope to keep in touch with them.

Word. I can feel you on stepping back. I've been doing that for about two weeks now. And seeing how dead things are now I'm not sure what more one can do. I think trashing those threads was just plan stupid. But some are just going overboard and it's sad to see them leave.

SquirtleSquad7 09-19-2012 02:05 AM

Huh, I didn't know all y'all played xbox.

If you wanna add me, shoot me a request. SquirtleSquad95. :]
