LOL! This talk on the Deadpool series is the best convo I've had on here in a while.

Tarquinius 02-24-2010 08:56 PM

If the movie gets an R rating I'm positive we will get bare minimum 6inch merchandise. They know the 3 3/4 market has some investment in children. Obviously children wont see the movie hence no child line.

But a well painted, well sculpted well articulated 6 inch shelver appears to collectors who both will see the movie and buy the merch.

BTW again hate to digress from the main topic but over at Marvelousnews.om There is a poll going on regarding the Galactus figure

I was really surprised at the level of interest in it. Out of 550 votes nearly 300 wish to get it. 179 either have the ML one or do not wish to get it and under 100 are undecided.

Gigantic Battles kind of bombed? They were clearanced fairly quickly and I was worried about the big G. But I'm thinking this is going to be a big hit...

Snowflakian 02-24-2010 09:10 PM

When I said toyline, I meant major line that can be geared towards kids too as all these have been.

Punisher, Watchmen, etc all had collector centric lines. That's slightly different.
Whereas things like Ironman, transformers, x-men, and so on all had lines aimed at kids and collectors. PG-13 is pretty much the cut off on that. Except for the first blade movie, which toy biz had a line for that catered to both.

The problem isn't execs and corporations think that children shouldn't see R movies, and are idiots etc. It's mostly the parental groups that do this. Like transformers recent flack for advertising to children when the movie had the innuendo it did. Granted Hasbro still shrugged it off for a great year, so let's hope they continue this trend of giving people of all ages what they want and not bowing to over-protective whims of the minority of loud spoken parents.

Galactus will definitely be a big hit. The GB packs were well received just oddly scheduled into walmarts reset patterns. This line wide release should correct those issues, and also give us our 'supreme' Mu figure per year or 2. Can't wait to see if the sentinel will have electronics too.

This and the media-seeking pundits who cater to those parents are exactly who I was referring to. Studio execs and corporates will follow the money, for the most part.

It's a rather cynical point of view, but it's mine.

I own the ML version and I still plan on getting this one too.

I think we'll see GB morph into a general release subline with maybe certain characters released as exclusives (but not just at Wal-Mart). On the other hand, it could simply become a regular release and just drop the exclusives.

I really feel like Wal-Mart didn't do GB justice at all

SSj3 Derek 02-24-2010 11:53 PM

Executives will, and should, follow the money. That is their job, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Johnnyakiba 02-25-2010 12:42 AM

Totally buying the GB Galactus.

Cannot wait to display him. He is going to rock. but I wish for a new silver surfer.

I can see Hasbro releasing figures like the Big G every year. How about a GROOT?

Probably both to both points. It's a cycle. But hopefully the exclusive GBPs paid off. They could still a couple more big figures from icons easy enough.
But when they run out or don't sell it'll slope off.
Ditto to the new galactus class. Hopefully it sticks. At least for a few good molds. And if this does well, who knows what's next! Or how else they could experiemnet, like the select series does with interconnecting bases, (hasbro target stands woohoO!) and vehicle packs.

trebleshot 02-25-2010 06:48 AM

We can only hope, Snow.

Never said there was. ;)

IcantBseriouS 02-25-2010 07:03 AM

OK, 1st off guys. The Deadpool flick will be PG-13. Everything Deadpool sells like hotcakes. If they make it R it will cut the ammount of people to see the movie down. It will be like when the watchmen came out all over again. A bucn of parents bitching that they took there kids to see a superhero movie and it was like this. 2nd, the giant packs bombed because the characters that were picked well were a little lame. I mean 50% of us really didnt want another Iron Man. 25% wanted Red Golliath and could only get blue or the other way around. And the other 25% could give a rats ass about Bucky-Cap or giant man Skrull. Trust me the Galactus and SS will sell well. Honestly IMO i think the giant packs should have been Yellow Jacket and Wasp and then a Sentinal and Beast or Morph. Those would have sold.

Johnnyakiba 02-25-2010 08:39 AM

Dude nice call. Yellow Jacket and Wasp would friggin' rock.
