Better detail, sculpt, paint apps and articulation more than make up for low vehicle count. Something that they're slowly ramping up anyway. Not to mention the emerging sub hobby of toy photographers, who are basically free advertising, making the most of all that. Which is why I think 6 inch Joe's would sell regardless. |
Tomax & Xamot !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hail Cobra!
|
Would love this. But as someone else said, pricing might go up with the amount of accessories we'd expect from GI Joes. I mean, look at all the accessories the toys came with during the Pursuit of Cobra and 30th Anniversary lines. That was part of the reason i loved those lines so much. Because I felt like I was getting a lot for the money.

The new Killmonger is basically a six inch Joe.

I feel if Hasbro did a 6” Joe line it would be well recieved at the current Marvel Legends price point if they copied the gear load that came with each character figure from the 80’s, with an addition of a handgun sidearm that would fit in a functional holster. Pretty much like the Killmonger figure mentioned above from the BP line. Keep it simple yet detailed to the characters. |

It would be some what easy for Hasbro to use existing ML parts for joe,.. agent carter for a Scarlett, misty knight torso and mockingbird for lady Jaye, black cat or MCU Wasp for baroness. Overcoat red skull torso with killmonger legs for beachhead, Deadpool for Snake Eyes, I could go on and on. Tell ya what Hasbro, I will take a leave of absence from my job and come work for you to get this done,.. don’t need to pay me either, just give me figures for compensation!!! |
I'd like to see Bandai Spirits tackle this. Duke, Cobra Commander, Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes, Scarlett, Firefly. Boom. A one-wave one-off.
Not sure when or if I will ever get my hands on a 1:6 scale Snake Eyes or Storm Shadow. |
For GI Joe to come back in any viable way it would have to be 6 inch. The golden era of vehicles and playsets is unfortunately over. Accessories and cost wouldn't be as much of a problem because Hasbro owns gi joe and wouldn't have to pay the enormous licensing fees they pay for Marvel and Star Wars.

I don't know if 6 inch Joes will ever become a reality but I'm always on the look out for military themed six inch figures. So far I've been scratching that itch by picking up figures from cancelled lines such as Resaurus Special Forces and Galoob's Battle Series.
Also, those of you who are jonesing for figures that aren't quite traditional military then consider backing the Action Force Kickstarter. It failed to fund on its first attempt but the creator said he's going to relaunch in the near future. |

Up scaling to 6" would also have to incorporate Vehicles and that would be expensive.

I think the thing making GI Joe an almost toxic property right now, compared to Transformers or other 80's revivals, is that a LOT of GI Joes' revival in the 80's was due to the amazing and sometimes insane vehicles and accessories. I know as a kid I didn't care about a pilot figure, I cared about the f-14 tomcat. I didn't care about an Admiral, I cared about an aircraft carrier. GI Joe without Rattlers, SkyStrikers, Terror Domes, HISS, etc just isn't GI Joe in my book, and 1/12 scale vehicles really isn't an economically feasible product. MAYBE a HASLAB set of figures could be made, 4 joes & 4 cobra, but I just don't see them being a profitable main line. The movie tie-ins couldn't sell on clearance at Walmart, and the various box sets at TRU sat there for months. America's military has been largely tarnished by the world's media since the Iraq war, and kids don't fantasize about being a soldier, they want to be a super hero, so GI Joe/Action Force really doesn't have the global appeal it did during the Cold War.

I'd buy the heck out of six inch Joes. I've moved on from collecting anything at 3 3/4. They're just too small to be worth it. The only thing that makes them worthwhile to put on a shelf at all is if they have vehicles to pose with. I do have some of the 25th anniversary Joes, but I only put them on my shelves on top of a HISS or a VAMP.
However, six inch Joes could easily get their own shelf, and not be strange. As I kid, I could never afford many of the vehicles, but I got a lot of figures. I think GI Joe was great because of how many characters they rolled out year after year. Really cool looking guys. Ninjas, commandos, soldiers, marines, etc. etc. I think there's a place for both lines. They manage it with Star Wars. Maybe a HasLab thing with preorders is the way to go, but I don't expect them to ever bother. That's why I've started making my own custom versions recently. |

The 1/6 military figure lines haven't slowed down, so the interest in military figures is there. In fact, 1/6 companies are going into the 1/12 scale with various military themes. Modern SAS, HK SDU, WW2, Vietnam, US 90's military. They're doing dio's and dio accessories as well as starting to get into small vehicles such a Army Delta dirt bike. Right here:

Kids can’t take military toys out in public, or snowflakes complain and parents are asked to leave. Kids get kicked out of school for making finger guns. The military is taboo in today’s world. |
Nevermind.

The only 1/6 soldiers are retail were Hasbro, Ultimate Soldier, and generic store brands. You could never get Dragon figures at regular retail. Fortnite figures, that are pretty popular with kids and parents, comes with plenty of guns. And as far as the military being 'taboo in today's world' that's complete crap. As a veteran, who comes from a family of veterans and active duty personnel, we hear quite a lot of "Thank You For Your Service". |

HISStank is reporting Jazwares is getting rights to make GI Joe stuff, though it's not a lock whether or not they'll make figures or just RP items, but looking at their 4" and 6" Fortnite lines, I'm optimistic!

That'd be nice. Can't even remember the last time I bought a new Joe.
