Well these are definitely too big to properly blend with Mattel's Multiverse line. Also Batman's clavicle area seems notably lower than it should be, I'll reserve actual judgment until I see them in hand.
|
Why they changed the scale is beyond me. Pretty alienating to multiverse fans.
|
They are 7 " just like Neca, looks good to me.

The Batman and Superman pics above both feature VERY soft sculpts; Batman looks sub-Mattel level, honestly, and both Bats and Supes are completely lacking in any detail, clear muscular shape, or definition. At least Supe's face sculpt looks pretty good, but otherwise they both look like bags of mashed potatoes.
And the proportion issues I previously mentioned are on full display. Take McFarlane Batman for example- his arms and legs are the same length as the NECA Batman next to him, but his torso is much longer/wider, making the arms and especially the legs look stumpy and short. NECA Batman's hands reach down to his mid-thigh - like a real person's would - whereas McFarlane Batman's hands barely reach the tops of his thighs. As for Superman, the problem is even worse! I mean, look at how TINY Supe's legs look! Dude looks like he has polio. And look at that bicep swivel that, if actually used, will totally break up the sculpt and look like shit. The Batman figure has a proper bicep swivel that connects into the shoulder (like Hasbro and NECA does), so why does Supes have one that's below the shoulder and partially INTO the bicep? It looks terrible and also runs into that "lack of articulation continuity" issue I spoke of where there's a complete lack of uniform articulation design from figure to figure. Other companies manage to consistently do it. Plus, Superman and Batman's arms and legs are all pretty skinny/undeveloped compared to their torsos. Look at NECA/McFarlane Batman for example- despite being taller/bigger overall, the McFarlane Batman looks far less muscular, especially when you go limb-for-limb. Overall, however, at least they're better than the garbage Mattel put out. I guess. Maybe. Probably not, really. I can see already that Vamp is a huge McFarlane apologist and thinks these figures are perfect and flawless in every way so I understand there's no arguing with him. And that's fine. I'll just say that if he likes this line I'm very happy for him and I hope McFarlane continues to churn out figures for him for years to come. And finally- the time between the reveals and people getting these in-hand seems to be the shortest I've ever seen in the toy business. I mean, other companies will reveal product months or even YEARS in advance. What gives? Does anyone in the know want to chime in here with their opinions? Are these figures super rush-jobs, the ultimate surprise, or what? |
And for the people who were wondering what Anthony would say:

However, once it hit 2020, the licenses were in their hands, and they were able to release them. So they wasted no time, and decided to have them ready for the beginning of the year. |
Are the textures still loading for that Batman and Superman?

These just can't, terrible decision by them. I imagine they're going to lose out on a lot of business. |
Maybe in a year he'll relaunch the line in 6 inch scale so he can remake all these characters again.

Side-by-side with the NECA versions McFarlane's are warm piss. Quote:
Modern figure design has already been pioneered by other companies, Todd. Just copy them, don't ask the janitor how to do it. Quote:
But to his credit, Anthony is ANYTHING but a company shill, unlike many toy reviewers out there. Regardless of his bitching, you know he's telling you like he legit sees it. |

I'm actually starting to groan out loud each time he brings out the Gambit figure in his recent reviews because I know it's now time to plug his head sculpt sale. BTW, $50 (painted) is way steep, but no one's making anyone buy it. But that said, I don't think Anthony's sculpt/paintjob is any improvement over the head that the Gambit figure comes with, which as you said is perfectly fine. |
Also: I (and other posters here) may be really down on these figures, but if you like them and are looking forward to them, please give fuck-all about my opinion. Enjoy them!
That said, I really can't help but feel that this is a make-or-break kind of situation for McFarlane. All these new figures with full articulation and everything really represents a big investment and I hope it works out for him. This could be a pretty big swing and a miss, financially speaking, if the line flops. But DC has a pretty big pre-existing market, regardless of quality (look at the dogshit that Mattel churned out for years), so they should do okay. |
I found some in hand Superman pics and a quick review of him on Youtube.

Damn, Batman looks fantastic. Originally didn't want to buy this version of Batman but watching those comparison pics, I will have to do that. Didn't want to buy all the waves but looks like I'm closer to do that! :D
Pre-ordered! Also pre-ordered Nightwing, can't wait! Superman pre-orders are sold out on Walmart. These figures became very popular. Could not get one. |

He was right about Superman's thighs being too small though. God does Sups look bad. Then again, they all look bad. |

You'll see everyone peg warming come July, especially the Mecha Batman, Babadook Batman, and Parademon Superman. |
The ab-joints on Batman and Superman look SOOOOO bad.
