Not true. The 3D render of the articulation points and the extra hands/weapons is obviously black and white because they are just 3D renders as you said, but that wasn't what we were referring to.

The "Artist Proof" figure (one of the 3 for sale) is NOT going to be in full color. The description of it on the page clearly says it will be a BLACK & WHITE action figure when released, and the photos and description of the screaming head so far suggest that we're only getting that alternate head in black and white to display on the B&W Artist Proof version. Hence a few of us hoping an additional stretch goal will also include that same headsculpt fully painted as well, so we can put it on the Classic or Modern Spawn figures too (for those of us who purchased the 3-pack set).

If the screaming head is going to be offered painted, then why isn't it digitally colored in the photo of it like the Al Simmons head (which is obviously digitally painted)? So yeah, as of the moment it looks like the screaming head is only B&W to go with the Artist Proof figure in the 3-pack set, unless Todd decides to give us an extra painted version of it too in some future stretch goal.

Oh sorry, my Mistake, i.misunderstood some wrong.

They Grey Spawn, Black and White....THATS THE ACTUAL FIGURE????

Is this some Kind of Bad Joke from Mcfarlane?????
Really????

I thought with "Black and White" he meant the Movie
Color Scheme, in the Real Live Movie, his suit was indeed
Only....Black with a little White on it.

I thought it would be the Color Scheme when it said
Black and White.

But a Grey Unpainted Figure????? Really McFarlane?

ShabbyBlue 04-10-2020 05:28 PM

Yeah, I'm not particularly interested in it either, but went all in to get the extra heads and whatever else Todd might throw in with further stretch goals. I'll probably end up selling that Artist's Proof figure later.

I think he's gonna try to make it similar to the DC statues that are Black and Grey? Maybe idk. Also Todd did rephrase what he meant since the confusion which is why he said that now all 3 figures will include the heads. Basically the classic will include the regular mask head, shoelaced, Al Simmons and hamburger head. Same for the modern one and the artist proof one. Which makes a lot of sense if he does that since we can have multiple heads for posing options.

I'm still hoping we get even more hands like fist hands, relaxed hands, hands with Necro plasma flames and that are blasting out Necro plasma. Also a cloth wired cape would be dope. So hopefully he makes reasonable stretch goals since it reached 1 million.

Zeorn 04-10-2020 10:11 PM

As someone who collects Japanese property figures too I can say there are multiple lines of statues where they release both the fully painted and prototype models. For most consumers, yes, the prototypes don't have much value, but anyone looking to custom paint figures however they want would love them. Essentially, they're larger scale statues you can paint instead of buying miniatures.

Not to mention, as someone who is a fan of certain sculptors, I've seen some sculpts where the paint-job just didn't do justice to the sculpt or where you lost a lot of the intricacies due to over-painting so I'd preferred the grey-sculpt.

As for the the Kickstarter, the figure should have had extra hands and the 5 heads in the 3 pack to begin with. Now he acts like it is some grand gesture, that is why I have been waiting before I back it. What was the point of the weapons if his hands couldn't hold them, to sit next to him?

Ventus 04-10-2020 11:37 PM

I need some clarification on this Project

1) Will the Orders only be available
through this Kickstarter Page?

Or will they be also sold to different Stores across the World
later, just like other McFarlane Figured like Mortal Kombat?

2) How do i Pre Order more than one of the same Figure
one the Kickstarter Page?

If i want to pre Order 2x Modern Spawn, what exactly
do i have to do on the Page?

warmachine6 04-11-2020 02:02 AM

so i just did some maths... it will cost me £57 with shipping (for a uk collector) which is like $69.54 , not sure if its worth nearly £60

"We raised one million dollars out of the 100.000 we wanted so as a stretchgoal you'll get one set of extra hands to hold the weapons we included from the start"

https://i.imgur.com/AIGaS3T.png

Like, if this goal hadn’t been met Spawn would come with a gun he cannot hold?

This Kickstarter is such an absolute trainwreck. One that's successful as hell admittedly, but this is still one of the worst crowdfunding campaigns I’ve ever seen.

I guess a terribly done campaign that raises a shitton of money and (hopefully) delivers a great product is much better than the best done campaign that delivers pure garbage, but I still cannot get over how poorly organized this whole ordeal is.

Mashbrains 04-11-2020 03:23 AM

RamenRider, you are being really negative. Comment after comment bagging on the Kickstarter and Spawn figure. I get it, it's not for you.

When did I "bag" on the figure? I cannot bag on it because it doesn’t exist, they’re presenting a statue. The figure could be awesome if it has the detailed sculpt of the statue and the articulation it promises. But at this point in time, no one knows how this thing will turn out.

I tried to put a little emphasis on how successful this campaign is in my posts because it is, which means people like what they're seeing and are happy about it which is great. But the campaign itself is objectively flawed. If you cannot deal with me pointing that out, sorry, but I just take issue with how this was done.

Maybe it's because indie toy developers have to put this effort in to crowdfund their new ideas while McFarlane cruises by with an absolute low-level effort Kickstarter and makes a million off of it. It doesn’t matter in the end, if people get the figure they wanted all’s well, but it still bugs me.

I hate to defend McFarlane, but it's not as bad as that really. Making an $1m on a $100k Kickstarter for a physical product like this doesn't mean you have an extra 900k. You still have to pay to produce and ship all that extra merchandise. One of the most common mistakes companies make running Kickstarters is not allowing for that extra production cost by getting too ambitious with stretch goals.
The initial 100k in this case would pay for the tooling, so they will have a higher percentage of extra money for the subsequent 900k.

Plus people are pledging to get the figure, legally and ethically McFarlane don't have to offer ANY stretch goals with that 900k if they don't want to. They aren't ripping anyone off by delivering Spawn figures to 10 times as many people as they needed to.

Do we have until May to lock in our backing? That Modern Spawn is looking really good to me.

You make fair points. Criticism helps make better product and better execution of the campaign. I personally am happy, but compared to other kickstart campaigns, this is lacking in extras. I personally think Todd did not expect it to do this well. Hopefully this experience and the criticism along with the praise will help him in his next campaign. Any specific ideas you or anyone has, I think would be welcomed. He and his team read this and other boards. So say exactly what you want, and the mcfarlane team will listen. Trust me on that. These boards are really important, along with all his social media accounts. This is new for him as well.

RamenRider 04-12-2020 02:34 AM

I will praise this campaign now; it might be a rare occurrence so savor the moment: The ideas of stretchgoals in this one are good in a way that it is an uncomplicated way for everyone to get a better figure.

They announced that with the money they made now, every figure will have real metal chains instead of plastic ones.

With other figure Kickstarters, stretchgoals usually means more paint variants for you to buy. But if you already ordered the thing you want - that isn't gonna matter a whole lot for you. It’s more of a way to trick people into buying more since "I like this so much and now they offer an exclusive paint variant, I've got to have it!" leading to more money being spend on the campaign.

With this one, everyone gets a better figure and that’s it. There's simplicity in this that makes it appealing, since the money gathered actually improves the base product itself.

I am aware this is not how Kickstarters work but my comment was so poorly worded and misleading that I can't blame you for correcting me on that one.

I want to say that's what I'm aiming for but there is a bit of butthurt involved in my comments, let's be real.

But yes, these things can be organized and done better and in some cases they need to for a Kickstarter to go well. Not here obviously, but in some cases.

DarkEyes 04-12-2020 04:11 AM

These forums are hilarious :D

I would love to see the face of the heaters right now, when just hit $1,200,000+

GerardVonHooten 04-13-2020 08:28 AM

My only concern is that the 3D rendering is of a statue showing how the articulation is going to be cut into the figure.

This can lead to some weird proportions as the figure is already sculpted in a pose.

I think what they need to do is retool the figure in a neutral standing straight position so the poses look more natural.

I still think it's good as is, but if they can do it, they just need to retool it a little. The torso looks like it's sculpted for him to be in a slightly turned pose, and that'll make the figure look weird. So hoping this is just a place holder.

Also, I wonder how they're going to execute the folding cape. Hinges, ball pegs? I am fine with either as long as it isn't just a thin plastic skin like on the original.

True. They didn't come up with import taxes and fees. But I feel however it's something they could try to take more into account. After all, I don't consider Europe as some exotic, remote place. One way to achieve this would be by working with a local European hub. Have the figures shipped from there and you immediately work around the whole customs debacle. It's no like the Chinese don't have any experience with this. They do it all the time with their own products. Sure, that means a little extra hassle, but I would think the idea behind these kickstarters is to get as many people interested as possible.
The fact is that if I don't know in advance how much the figure will cost me in total and I might end up paying 3x the amount, I'll pass. :-(

Are you taking customs into account in this? Living in Belgium I would have to add 42 euro extra for customs and handling (21% on the total of product value and shipping + 29 euro administrative fees, which are ridiculously high in this retard country of mine... with thanks to the EU for enforcing this). That puts it over a 100 euro in total, totally not worth it anymore. :-(

warmachine6 04-13-2020 10:33 AM

for me in the past it varies on the courier they used, my last US figure was from amazon.com and i paid what was listed. Though im not sure with kickstarter, it varies on who decides the delivery service. So its kinda 50-50 if i need to pay for customes and not. Technically the UK isnt part of the EU so maybe i dont need to worry about it...

This is the issue with EU/UK import taxes and duties. Put simply they're some of the most prohibative globally. As someone who has shipped to most countries i can tell you not only does it matter which courier you use but it also varies by country. A courier may be really bad in one country and not so bad in another. DHL for example is really bad when shipped to Germany but not so bad in the UK. DPX and DPD are generally good all round but are slow. Royal Mail near always charges duties. Even worse is half these countries will add duties/VAT to the shipping charges as well and at 20% that's going to add up alot.

Some international sellers mark stuff as gifts which occassionally gets around it but more often than not (especially when shipped with regular mail) a boatload of tax is just thrown in. It's also near impossible to register for VAT if you live outside the EU/UK meaning that even if the seller wants to include this tax in their final price they can't.

I will note that there doesn't appear to be any intention to release this outside of the kickstarter. Every unit made is accounted for and it's likely that the only way to get this post kickstarter will be on the secondary market which will end up being far more than your 20% tax. Ideally they should team up with a European distributer who receives the goods at wholesale price and receives tax benefits.

It's Worth backing the project and getting nice and vocal in the comments section. If they don't come up with something then drop out before it ends or accept the additional costs.

Well it's better than buying all 3 and then still needing to buy the others to get all 5 heads.

anindrew 04-14-2020 11:06 AM

I have the original Spawn figure from the 90s. As I recall, it has extremely little articulation (5-10 points). It was the 90s, so that was normal. The Kickstarter stating that the new figure has more than double the articulation of the original isn't impressive compared to the competition. $20 Marvel Legends (and the new GI Joe Classified 6" figures) have insanely good articulation. Even though the imagine of the articulation broken out was shown, it isn't known how that will work in real life on the actual figure. A 3D animation of how the articulation will work showing the movement of every point of it would help a ton. With the currently available information, I just cannot support this. I think the sculpt looks incredible. But shouldn't Spawn be able to crouch on a rooftop? A $40+ figure should have articulation at least as good as Legends if not closer to Figuarts. Wasn't the 10th anniversary Spawn figure packed with articulation? It is baffling to me why this figure wouldn't be at least that good or as good as the MK Spawn figure.

ShabbyBlue 04-14-2020 04:16 PM

It's almost up to $1.4 million. I wonder if we'll get another bonus when it hits that, or when it hits $1.5 million (which could happen within the next week).
