How do you go from

Quote:

Plan right now is to use some of the more really shiny, metallic paints, much like, uh... you've seen, we've done a couple metallic figures lately [...] Right now [...] how we're thinking about it [...] is similar to this where it's-it's metallic [...] where we'll go very much metallic in there to make them look as animation accurate as we can
to

[...] right now, we’re focusing on delivering figures that are a close resemblance to how they appeared on screen. We’re currently still spending a lot of time on paint, and these figures you see have more of a matte finish, but we’re working on it having a pearlized metallic look or sheen, but something that still matching what was on screen and not a glossy figure. [...] They’re SilverHawks, not Chrome-Hawks, right?
and not feel dirty AF? You're right, they're the SilverHawks, so make them silver? Is that... is that a confusing thing? Like, just say you can't or won't make them metallic and stop calling the chrome a toy invention, it's really really really awkward seeing someone say these characters aren't supposed to look like the bumpers on a '57 Chevy. The entire iconography of the series is built around chrome, I honestly didn't even know they made toys for this show until a couple of years ago and even I knew these dudes were chrome, just stop saying the chrome is a toy invention

Quote:

As a whole, everyone has been extremely positive about the line [...] Apart from the one third that asks for the chrome look that is tied with an emotional remembrance of the figures, all feedback has been spot on and how great they look.
Am I nuts? I'm not the only one who reads something like this and feels intense loathing, am I? Is it the illustrator in me that knows what drawn chrome looks like?

I mean he did explicitly explain, again, why they can't vac metal the figure because of articulation and plastics used and how the paint is going to look more metallic in production. Later on he says they'll most likely do vac metal Reaction because they're much, much simpler figures.

There's a difference between metallic and just being chromed out. There's literally no way they can do vac metal for fully articulated figures so I don't know why that's even a problem. Sorry you want chrome, but they just can't make the figures that way.

Another quick edit.

I totally get material limitations (I rather dislike the look of vac metal no matter how much nostalgia I have for the Robo-Armor on the Ultra Police toys) and that the final figures may look less like grey chalk, that's not my specific issue: it's the insistence that any kind of gloss or overtly metallic finish on what are clearly chrome-plated characters is somehow wrong. It crosses the line from hedging your bets on how well you can accomplish the look through paint and is firmly in the realm of distorting the universe

They're chromed characters. You can dislike that, decide not to do that, decide you can't do that, but saying that it's incorrect to do that just feels deceitful, you know?

Animation colors with a pearlescent finish seems to be the most likely way theyre gonna go.

It does seem odd that they're rigidly sticking to the animated looks when by his own words the show was a mere blip and the toys stuck around longer and are what most people remember. If that's the case, wouldn't they want to appeal to what people have a stronger nostalgia for? The only thing I can come up with is they want them show-specific to go with the Thundercats who I believe are mostly show-specific. So eh, it is what it is.

Could also be the cheapest way to go, especially since these guys are likely to have a smaller production run than the Thundercats.

For $55 they should be able to use metallic paint.

Cost per unit due to a small production run... I guess only the Head Bean-Counting Hipster at Super 7 could actually say.

The metallic paint is a deciding factor for many people, they could sell more of them if they listened to the demands of the majority.

If the final production figure of Mon-Star is as big as that prototype at Powercon last weekend, $85 might actually be a steal lol.

Comedian 10-27-2021 12:05 PM

Series 2 looks awesome! That throne!

IzzyTipsy 10-27-2021 12:09 PM

Kind of unsure how they can do silver-chrome-ish looking Marvel Legends but Super7 can't for these.

80sforged 10-27-2021 12:27 PM

PO'd, but curious if they can make 3rd quarter when the current ETA for wave 1 is June of '22.

dukefett 10-27-2021 12:36 PM

I'm in for Mon*Star and Bluegrass, keeping this collection pretty minimal.

AlienK 10-27-2021 01:10 PM

Yeah I don't know about paying $45 for just a throne, maybe if it came with accessories I'd consider it but since I have no attachment to Silverhawks and just like buying cool monsters I'll just be getting Mon*Star and Windhammer.

Edit: Also it's surprising Windhammer doesn't come with the toy version of his tuning fork, Super7 is normally pretty good about that sort of thing.

ludovicotek 10-27-2021 01:40 PM

All of them look great. Love this version of Mon*Star.

Harbinger 10-27-2021 01:58 PM

Hope we get flashback soon.

Solrac333 10-28-2021 07:46 AM

My favorite is Throne. I'll only get Throne.

dukefett 04-12-2022 02:13 PM

I realize how little I remember Silverhawks after these couple waves lol; I might get 2-3 guys and call it.

Psoneboi 04-13-2022 06:36 AM

Most of my collecting is Super 7 and their figures are really nice. They are very solid, use much better plastic than most companies as well. They aren't perfect but so far I have been much more satisfied with their figures than any other company like Hasbro or NECA. I think if you could hold one in your hand it might change your mind, maybe.

deecee4 04-13-2022 06:57 AM

Seems like they're going to be making 2 versions of Mumbo-Jumbo and I'm ok with that.

Dolemite 04-13-2022 03:45 PM

Never watched the show so I have no nostalgia about it, but the characters in this wave are goofy as shit. Seriously, these are some hideous-ass designs.

DarkEyes 07-10-2022 02:05 PM

Really weird don’t have real pics of the final products right now.
