If this quarter and the next one are in the red then maybe there's an argument, but for now they're holding the fort.

Lets try this. How long ago was Hasbro successful at something in your opinion?

I cannot speak for ALL their brands, but Hasbro adult wises, has had failure after failure after failure.

I was excited for this (as I had a ton of SLUs as a kid), but at $50, HELL NO!

Smasher 09-22-2022 02:47 PM

I just pre-ordered one for my friend.
I hope it ships on December 22nd so he can get it for Christmas.

Gonna be tight.

Just got my younger brother to-pre order the whole set..his budget is high. Not mine.

I preordered the two return potentials..Curry and LeBron.

I still think the line will fail..lol

LOL of course it will! ;)

But seriously, how does that work, is your brother a kid, or is he just a few years younger?

Venzhe 09-22-2022 04:30 PM

Looks like they’re betting on a smaller group of hardcore collectors chasing higher rarities of NFTs to drive sales. Whoever gets the 1 of 1 gold NFT will make bank off of someone who just ‘has to have it.’

I have many brothers. My youngest (adult) brother likes sports and bought alot of the enterbay Jordan and curry(I think) and LeBron (not sure) and tyson figures. He doesn't collect much stuff. But likes the occasional figure.. like he realy likes Jada Toys Chester Cheetah. But he buys high end stuff.. thats what he collects, stuff like $900 Gucci shoes and such.

Got it, he's an adult. I was curious to see if a teen might be buying these.

I don't buy Jada toys, but I've liked what I've seen. Their Universal Monsters are appealing and that Frankenberry was hilarious…

These cost WHAT and come with WHAT?????

Is Hasbro really back to trying with NFT horseshit after the market collapsed?

Raine24 09-22-2022 09:04 PM

Holy crap, NFT trading cards? That's just disgusting. Utterly vile.

webz 09-23-2022 03:53 AM

Old school flashbacks! My dad and I collected a ton of these back in the day… Larry Bird, Hershel Walker, Darryl Strawberry, Marcus Allen, Dan Marino, etc. probably had 10 to 15 of ‘em.

Dolemite 09-23-2022 04:59 AM

The fact that Hasbro introduced windowless packaging to allegedly be more "environmentally friendly," but then they start selling figures like these that come with NFTs - which are proven to actually be harmful to the environment - proves that Hasbro couldn't care less about going green, just making as much green as they possibly can. Fucking hypocrites.

Seriously. I felt actual anger in my gut when I read that, what an insult.

I'm not going to defend NFTs, but when you say they're "actually" harmful, are you suggesting that plastic waste isn't harmful to the environment?

No, I'm saying removing a collector-friendly feature from your packaging in the name of bullshit "environmentalism" (when they really just want to save money on packaging) and then introducing something else that is at least as equally harmful to the environment just to squeeze out a few extra bucks is the very height of hypocrisy.

The plastic thing isn't nonsense, single use plastics, especially those used in packaging, are an incredible environmental harm. Hasbro generates tons of plastic that goes right in the garbage, while cardboard is very recyclable. Meanwhile, they've done very little in the NFT space, so while the sector is very harmful, Hasbro's direct contribution to NFT energy waste is likely quite limited. I think they should stay away from NFTs too, but I don't think making one bad call means the right one is invalidated.

Harbinger 09-23-2022 06:13 PM

Wtf is an nft?

It's very odd to quote someone else only to have a conversation with yourself... nothing you're saying is a counterpoint to dude, it's all just counterpoint-dressed agreement coupled with weird equivocation to passively defend the NFTs even while saying you don't.

Non-fungible token, it's blockchain BS like cryptocurrency. It's just a fancy way of generating a unique ID that uses obscene amounts of computing power (and thus energy) and is the steadily-decaying realm of grifters. While other companies are apologizing for jumping into the mess, here comes Hasbro trying to capitalize on the environmentally and financially destructive fad. And if you're a gamer, crypto and NFTs are why you can't get a new graphics card or PS5; the miners/minters have been swallowing up tech to power their operations.

AlienK 09-23-2022 06:47 PM

I'm not really a sports guy, outside of huge names like Michael Jordon or idk Babe Ruth I wouldn't be able to tell one player apart from another but if they started doing team mascots in this line I might consider picking something up though with this whole NFT business I don't think I'd feel right about supporting it plus if they ever do make a Michael Jordan I could just buy the Mafex at the price they're charging.

OP called plastic-free packaging "bullshit 'environmentalism'" and it's not. I'm not defending or equivocating, I'm saying if you actually tried to quantify or qualify Hasbro's direct environmental impact from plastic packaging or NFTs, the first is the bigger deal. They shouldn't do either, but plastic-free is a legit ESG effort. And that's why I'm not arguing with the point about hypocrisy, because I reject the premise.

If you don't care about plastic or NFTs, then you could see Hasbro as hypocritical, but why would you care. If you think they're both issues, then it's less about hypocrisy and more about a lack of commitment. And if you think NFTs are killing the planet but plastic windows are justified, then you have a cultural view instead of an environmental one.
