Star Trek 2009 - Hiya Toys Captain Pike Figure

I still say that Hiya Toys is making a mistake making Kelvin timeline figures. I guess some people have to learn the hard way, that classic Star Trek is what sells.

Not in China. These films did quite well there, which is why China-based Hiya Toys is focusing on this part of the franchise.

Personally, I'll take any Trek in this scale but I'd much rather have Strange New Worlds at this point. As for Abrams' Trek, once Hiya is done milking this buck, I'm hoping they get to Uhura ASAP.

snake5289 09-04-2024 08:59 AM

For some reason I didn't think they'd get to Pike. Glad they did since he was one of my favorite parts of the Kelvin movies and it bummed me out when they killed him.

User897 09-04-2024 11:39 AM

abrams trek is dead, Jim.

Sean C 09-04-2024 01:59 PM

I'd only get that figure to make a Thomas Veil custom. Well, an aged 30 years one.

If companies stop making Classic Star Trek(TOS TNG DS9 VOY) stuff then Star Trek itself is doomed worse than before. These kelvin timeline figures will not sell welk, even in china, so they'll have to limit their production numbers. I suspect that Paramount has a requirement for making unpopular Star Trek stuff for companies, then if the sales numbers are high enough, they get to make Classic Trek stuff. I guess nobody is gonna buy Star Trek stuff anymore.

Interesting that you lump TNG-era shows with TOS.

Playmates offered quite a few different flavors of Trek recently and all I saw was "classic" Trek collecting dust on the pegs, especially TOS-era characters.

I'm sure Hiya knows what's performing in China. International orders are icing on the cake. If pre-orders had been weak, I doubt we'd have gotten this far.

That said, I'm getting impatient waiting for that first wave to hit. It's already two quarters late. Are they manufacturing them all at once?

snake5289 09-06-2024 02:09 PM

Hiya makes some good stuff (still waiting on a Feral Predator and an Engineer though fellas) but they are pretty slow getting stuff out. There were a few Predators I ordered on Amazon that ended up being a few months late.

User897 09-06-2024 02:32 PM

The abrams garbage will not move. Hiya are idiots if they haven't figured that out by now. If they want to get a foothold in the Star Trek market, they will need to produce items from the true Star Trek before abrams/kurtzman destroyed everything. And even then, they will need to produce toys that haven't already been done a hundred times in recent years. Wow us, and the wallets will open.

Smasher 09-06-2024 04:00 PM

That GMK Godzilla looks amazing.
I am pretty happy with my NECA rev, but I'm definitely getting this one.

Really?
From the tone of your comment I imagine your being "wowed" by anything is kind of difficult.

You do know that TOS and TNG are in the same timeline/universe right? We won't know until a couple of years down the road, How preorders were because companies are very secretive about that and that's part of the problem. They need to do things right away instead of waiting a couple of years.

GMK!!!...
Smooth ;^)

Dolemite 09-09-2024 07:15 AM

It's a real bummer what happened to the actor that played Chekov. He died really young in a freak car accident in his own driveway.

Very decent-looking figure, too. But $110? GTFO with that shit.

Not a moment too soon. The first movie was kinda fun but the sequels were complete ass.

I believe you're referring to what we call the Prime Universe, not classic. Classic is how Playmates referred to TOS in their branding back in the day. Prime encompasses everything but the last three films, which are referred to as the Kelvin Timeline.

Regardless, Hiya's going after their domestic market, which is much more familiar with the material from the Kelvin Timeline. If they want to take advantage of the North American (and maybe European) market, they'll definitely need to tap into the Prime Timeline but at this rate, that may not happen.

The classic timeline is not the prime timeline, Spock prime from the 2009 movie is actually from the Star Trek Picard timeline, which has nothing to do with the TOS and TNG timeline. Paramount has a internal clause that everything made after Voyager. For some reason, cannot be connected to the classic timeline which encompasses those four tv series. Leonard Nimoy played the character. But it's still not the Spock we knew from the original TV series. Who cares anyway, Star Trek is dead and buried. That won't stop them from sodomizing the corpse though.

The classic timeline and prime are the same thing. In fact, there is not really such a thing as the classic timeline, no one uses that term. There is Prime and there is Kelvin. 'Picard' is in the Prime timeline, his Kirk was William Shatner. From TOS through to 'Picard' is a simple straight line.

Old Spock (Leonard Nimoy) is from the Prime timeline. In the first JJ movie he is sent back in time. There, he witnesses the destruction of the USS Kelvin, which did not happen in the Prime timeline. Thus Prime Spock is now in the Kelvin timeline.

Sean C 09-12-2024 12:04 PM

The prime timeline itself was altered by Voyager's Future's End. The microchip revolution happened because of a reverse engineered time cop ship.
And that's how we explain Enterprise, Discovery, Strange New Worlds looking far less primitive than TOS.

Watch the first episode if Picard, the holographic Enterprise before Enterprise-D is the Discoprise from STD and SNW, TOS Enterprise and SNW Enterprise aren't even the same ship nor timeline. Enterprise STD Picard and SNW are part of the same alternate universe, there is no Shatner Captain Kirk in that universe. Their Kirk is Paul Wesley.

You do know that Voyager ultimately fixed the timeline before Henry Starling could pilfer the Aeon timeship right? I watched the whole series, Voyager returned home to a pre-Star Trek Nemesis 24th century.
