Oh sweet! Black Panther has an unmasked head.

Boy Blunder 02-03-2016 12:54 AM

Well crap in a hat. A Dirk Anger head for Nick Fury? Now I need to buy him.

Marvel Legends Crimson Dawn Psylocke Black Costume Variant Mojo Series AFA 85 | eBay

It's hard enough to find pictures of this thing online, let alone someone actually selling one. While the price is laughably high, I thought it might be a cool thing to let you guys know about. It also shows that we really need a new, and more importantly, mass produced Psylocke, as the original Toy Biz one is REALLY hideous, and that SDCC one, while passable, is really not worth the 100+ dollar price tag she tends to go for on the secondary market, especially on that outdated buck.

The only other figures more rare than her than I could think of are the silver shirted Luke Cage and the blue costumed Wasp. A cool piece of Toy Biz Marvel Legends history, but still...good luck to this guy trying to sell her on ebay, especially at that price...

I've got pics on my marvellegends.info site. As well as the Silver shirt Cage I used to have. That's about 20 times what I bought and sold mine for about 8 years ago

Spyne98 02-03-2016 03:56 AM

Woah! Fury has too many heads. Army build SHIELD agent, Dirk Anger. Damn it! I'll need 4!

warmachine6 02-03-2016 03:58 AM

Ah dam it fury , i suppose i could get another shield agent

BAD MOON 02-03-2016 04:54 AM

You could use the T'Challa head for Gabe Jones on the Nick Fury body.

The worst part is, I would buy this to put her on a shelf. I do hate that it's supposed to be X-Treme Psylocke and they painted all the straps on. Had this been mass produced, it would be selling for pennies.

Because, for the most part, most people don't care. That sounds dismissive, and I hope it doesn't come across as rude, but that's the way it is. Here's the the thing, the vast majority of people in the general audience have never touched a comic book. They don't care about liberties being taken.

Human Torch might be better known, but Deadshot is not a popular character by any means. Most people have never heard of him, aside from perhaps his guest spots on Arrow or his brief appearance in Arkham City. So when it comes time to the movie, most people aren't gonna be angry or upset that they made Deadshot black, they're gonna go "Oh, hey, it's Will Smith!"

Just like how nobody really cared about Nick Fury or Heimdall being black (and before anyone says anything yes I know Fury is black in the Ultimate version). Those are things that hardcore purists care about, but most viewers aren't hardcore purists.

Has Hasbro made any merchandise of any of the TV characters yet?

I loved the first two ghostbuster films, as well as the original cast, and even had a ton of their toys as a kid, however after seeing the pictures online as well as i think a movie trailer for the new verison. it looks absolutely horrible.... i won't bother seeing that.

As far as Deadshot and johnny storm go, One is more iconic and one is not. however keep in mind, majority of people DON'T know what sucide squad is, some do know what fantastic four is and ALL comic buffs know what both are... As far as Heimdall and Nick Fury i don't know much about heimdall so i didn't care Edris Elba portrayed him, HOWEVER i immediately noticed when the marvel films started to be released that Nick Fury was not the Nick Fury i expected.... i was looking for older white guy with a patch on his eye smoking a cheap cigar.

However regarding the movie I have literally no issue with making him black. Not because it's Will Smith (his record is very wobbly to me) but because Deadshot's race has next to nothing to do with him as a character. Some characters have a definite race based in their origin. Black Panther is from Africa (not South Africa which would allow him to be white) so his origin really only allows him to be black. Steve Rogers is from the 1940s so there was no way the army would use super soldier formula on anyone who wasn't white. The Stark family has a long history dealing with the government so like with Cap the racism of the time points to Iron Man being white. Someone like Peter Parker or Cyclops however could technically be made non-white for a movie or show because nothing about their story directly points to one race or another. Deadshot's origin can be simplified as: rich kid joins military as crack-shot sniper, accidentally kills brother, becomes depressed/suicidal mercenary. Nothing directly indicates his race. Of course nothing prevents studios from altering origins to begin with, thus my argument saying Black panther can only be black is null.

Talking about toys, I have yet to see the Absorbing Man wave outside of my flea market.

I personally think it's shotty producing and directing deciding to change one of the key characters ethnicity just because you want a "big name" in the film or the usual comment i hear from directors or whoever prior to producing a movie " we want to be more diverse so cast.... "
Like i said maybe it's just because i'm a purist and have been reading comics since the late 80s.... IDK

Now onto the hair, I don't get the big deal about him being blonde. Moore was blonde too.

However, Bond is supposed to white, no ands, ifs or buts about it.

I don't like them changing a comic book character's race. I don't like it one bit. However, it makes even less sense to change the race of one character but keep his sibling the original race. WTF? They should either both be white or both be black. Their super heroes, not Oreos.

As for Doom, my god was he insulting. There was nothing Dr Doom about him. In fact, Roger Corman is the only man to ever have gotten Doom the most accurate to the comics.

The biggest with Fant4stic is that it is so damn boring. The first 45 minutes were pretty interesting despite the cast having no chemistry whatsoever. However, had it been a science fiction movie about discovering and exploring an unknown world, it could have been great. As a super hero movie, NO!!! They don't even actually do anything super heroy in the thing and the scenes you seen in the trailer with Thing are not even present in the movie.

NOOOO lol every bond as you and I both know has had dark hair and dark eyes, obviously he has always been Caucasian. As far as Roger Moore being blonde??? when and where? not for James Bond. possibly for other movies but look up on google images of him as James Bond.

Daniel Craig is an excellent bond, i just had to get over that blonde hair and blue eyes is all.

Back on topic with Toys, those pics of Nick Fury and black panther look awesome !!! those will definitely be on my purchase list. too bad they didn't give him a look with the cigar in his mouth. i assume because this is a childrens toy....

VonPooten 02-03-2016 08:02 AM

DIRK ANGER HEAD!! Holy crap. A S.H.I.E.L.D. helmet, too?! I am buying a dozen of these Fury figures.

We now need Elsa with an angry head, a shovel, and an EU t-shirt. This is officially a Marvel Legends requirement.

Both options work when done well, which has to be the key.

The only character I can think of whose whiteness is intrinsically tied to their mythos would be Steve Rogers, who was created to turn the Aryan ideal back against its foul proponents (also conveniently illustrating that comics have always been political). There may be more I'm not aware of. Bond certainly isn't one. English has never been synonymous with white, not since Roman times, not in Tudor times, not in the 19th century with Londons entire black suburbs.

Anyone know what a fair price for a Jubilee wave Storm is without the BAF?

:thumbs to the whole post, but the bold in particular. Jane Foster is Thor. Thor hasn't been forcibly morphed into a female form, Foster is her own character with a very definitive narrative which strikes new ground for the comic and keeps it fresh. However, Odinson is just as relevant and, if anyone is actually reading the comic, they'll know that his story is equally as important.

As long as diversity "for the sake of diversity" is done well, meh. I really don't mind.

Dude... Have you never heard of adoption? It's something that happens, quite a lot.

Dr Kain 02-03-2016 08:03 AM

I'm definitely buying Black Panther, and most likely Iron Man. Fury, not sure yet. I was hoping it would be a new figure of the current Fury and not the white one. Plus, I have no interest in the Saiyan's head nor the generic helmet agent head.

Yes, but why do it here? Why not have both be black? It's Fox wanting a slice of cake but being too afraid to ask for the whole thing. They wanted to be PC, but they didn't want the controversy of a white man marrying a black woman. Hence why they made Sue be "adopted."

Ok, I'm gonna say it. Who cares about an Age of X Captain America? I'm not trying to knock anyone here, but seriously? The Age of X story was firstly an X-Men story and secondly it was forgettable (at least it was for me). The suit Cap wears in it looks like a comic style version of the stealth outfit he worse in The Winter Solider movie. Please, please correct me if I'm wrong.
Unless Hasbro is fooling up and this is going to be the Sam Wilson/Falcon Captain America we have been waiting for.

VonPooten 02-03-2016 08:18 AM

^ Yup, Age of X Cap was featured in a tie-in comic, but I think it was only one issue (two, max). It's a tired excuse to sneak yet another Cap into the wave, but since it is a Captain America wave, they "have to" include him.

Now you've got me wanting a set of Age of X figures. Magneto, Legacy, Nightmare, Frenzy, Basilisk. Sorted!

A mixed race family/interracial marriage is controversial? America is an odd place indeed.

Just to add some context behind this whole Fantastic Four situation, I actually don't think it had anything to do with being "PC". Michael B. Jordan and Josh Trank (the director of Fantastic Four) are actually very close friends in real life and they've worked together on a previous project. Since Trank was and still is a relatively new director in Hollywood (and that's supposedly one of the factors for why the movie was as bad as it was; he couldn't handle the pressure of doing a big Hollywood production for a major studio), I'd imagine he thought he'd work better with actors whom he had previous experience with. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he was also good friends with Miles Teller, the one who played Reed Richards.

lol Yes, it can be in pockets. Much of the world might see us in a certain light given the strides we made in the 60's and 70's. However, as a result of the recession of 2008, many people are feeling vulnerable and old divisions function as comfortable security blankets. Currently, we are facing a culture that seems invested in turning back the hands of progress in a misguided attempt to reclaim what they believe they have lost...

Jordan had also recently starred in a heavily acclaimed movie called Fruitvale Station, so he had shown he had serious acting chops.

Well that's my point. "Comic buffs" aren't the main audience, which is why they could cast a well known actor like Will Smith as Deadshot and not have many people care. You said it yourself, you instantly noticed that Nick Fury was not accurate to the comics, but now to a whole generation of people Sam Jackson IS Nick Fury.

^Yes, to those who are confused about Tigra, the original source was only able to confirm the numbers identifying Nuke and Tigra after he had broadcast the video with the leaked figures. So, wave one is, as we know:

Civil War Cap (aka "Combatant Blue")
Civil War Iron Man (aka "Hero Battler Red")
Civil War Black Panther (aka "Hero Ace Red 2")
Nuke
Red Guardian
Nick Fury

aaaand wave two is (supposedly):
Age of X Cap
Iron Skull
Captain Britain
Civil War Scarlet Witch
Tigra
(Civil War?) Crossbones

I'd like to say that Britain is not suffering from this, but with the ongoing hysteria regarding the Syrian immigration crisis, ISIL, and "PC Social Justice Warriors gone mad," I have no idea what is happening to our little rock..
