Those magnets are a great idea especially with action poses for characters like Quicksilver. That Coulson looks amazing though, could we get a closer look?

what's the recipe for count nefaria?

En Sabah Nerd 01-06-2015 09:05 PM

Just watched the Ant-Man trailer on youtube, not sure how to feel. Originally when Edgar Wright was the director it seemed obvious it would be a super hero comedy akin to how Guardians was done, but watching the trailer it feels all serious just with hints of comic relief like the little jokes that are in every Marvel movie. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

How did you get anything from it!?! it was easily the most lackluster, no spoiler having, ambiguous trailer in movie history! it made the new Star Wars trailer look to content rich! it was only slightly more revealing than the "ant sized" version. but I look at this as a good thing considering how many movies I've seen in recent history that I leave after feeling like all the good parts were revealed in the trailer. I'm hoping the movie is so awesome they dare not leak anything worth wile in the teasers. I hope Ant man holds up to the current Marvel films, and fits in well, I just wish they brought Pym in earlier (especially with Ultron in the next movie) but all in all it's just good to have him in the cinematic universe.

Ninjinister 01-06-2015 11:42 PM

At least if Hasbro releases those godawful 2.5" figures they can still be in scale with 3.75ers :D

Super easy recipe really.. just use the standard old large MU body (I think i used a Gladiator with Thunderball lower arms) and repainted Dr. Strange head. I also used Gladiator's cape, but it isn't in the photo. Paint him up, find something to make his belt out of, and you're in there.

Thanks, that does sound fairly easy. Even someone of my customizing caliber should be able to do that. Though the paint job won't look as good as yours.

I think that ALIEN had the best show nothing kind of trailer, it had about 5% to do with the movie and the rest was just a space egg cracking with some kind of siren running in the background. The egg in that trailer wasn't even how the eggs looked in the movie! That's how trailers ought to be, show you the tone of the movie with as little as possible.

With Ant-Man we do get: Scott has a daughter that he wants to do right by, he went to jail for being a thief, Pym goes to Scott for this opportunity to be a hero, there's something of a serious tone so far, Darren Cross is a grumpy guy, who looks neat as Yellow Jacket (those pics have been buzzing around for a while now), and Paul Rudd will bring some level of humor to Scott Lang no different than Robert Downey jr brought to Tony Stark. It's not a lot which is good since a trailer that spoils the movie is entirely too much, but it's a decent amount to start with. Unless the movie is no longer going the comedy route like GotG did then I do think the trailer should've showed that a little more. If it's still a comedy I can't tell from this trailer that it's supposed to be, it would be a shame to see this go the way of Cabin in the Woods (which was a horror-comedy yet advertised as a total horror slash fest).

Not trying to step on any feet, but shouldn't the Ant-Man conversation be in the Movie/TV thread? I do like the discussions though, don't get me wrong, just seems out of place here.

Yeah, it probably should be. It's not entirely uncommon for this thread to dip out every now and then into non-toy talk, but we try to get back to the 3.75" appreciating fairly quick. Otherwise the thread would be put down like the last one.

Back on topic: 2014 is entirely over now by a week, and all we got new in 2014 was Marvel Infinite (however little some of us were even able to get due to wave 1's persistence) and some of the movie toy lines in this scale (except for GotG which got snubbed out of a 3.75" line). It wasn't an overall good year for new Marvel 3.75" stuff, but that doesn't mean the toys we got weren't good. The year started nice with wave 1, Wasp was pretty demanded for a figure and we finally got one. Just you know one of the first 5 Avengers and the person who came up with the name, and we don't get one until the line is re-branded. Some people were fortunate enough to find the later waves past wave 1 and get some less demanded but no less great toys. Ant-Man saw release finally (again a first 5 Avengers member but we technically got other Hank Pym options before), Death's Head was something of a random and unexpected but nice addition, and figures Deathlok and Ares who had a level of demand but were some of the best toys in the new line. My point is 2014's done and all we really got was MI so what is your favorite figure of 2014/favorite so far from MI?

Captain Nash 01-07-2015 02:20 PM

Wasp for sure #1 favorite figure. Even a year or so before the MU line "ended" she was my #1 most wanted figure (after the Rogue and Scarlet Witch releases)

But Grim Reaper was also another one that was high on my list and was thrilled we got him.

Finally, for #3 I have to say Ares was very much an awesome release, even if he wasn't that high on my list, I know he was for a lot of people and he was really well done.

Red She Hulk was already the same figure as Green She Hulk, but still a good figure.
Ant Man and Wasp were both solid figures, and incredibly demanded characters aswell.

I've got to give it to Ares though because he's a massive figure, taller than my movie Thor, and brilliantly articulated.

kylactus 01-07-2015 02:56 PM

Aries, and Deathlok were a tie for #1 for me. the sad part is that I think (aside from the obviously yet to be released North star, Colossonaut, emma, and Scourge) it was the end of the Vonner train and now were going to see less articulation and an almost neglectful attitude towards the line in general, Hell during the "rebrand" of the line into MI were we not told that the packaging design, and theme focus was going to change every year? what the hell happened there? My only hope going forward is that Hasbro shoots themselves in the foot by raising the MU price point and sending some more collectors back to the 3.75" side and forcing Hasbro to put MI back into flagship status instead of what seems like an afterthought lately.

ultraman zoffy 01-07-2015 03:44 PM

Aside from a gimpy leg on my Deathlok, I'm totally happy with all the wave 3 figures. Surprisingly, Ant-Man is kind of the standout for me just for being such a great classic look. Death's Head is also up there. In fact, before getting wave 3 and Death's Head, I was pretty set on not collecting 3.75 Marvel stuff anymore, and these figures got me hyped again. Of course, the whole Guardians repack wave thing happened (along with the articulation impaired 2015 stuff), and promptly killed that hype. Right now, I am sort of on a 3.75 kick though going back through my collection and modding each figure... I just have no enthusiasm for the future of the line.

En Sabah Nerd 01-07-2015 03:45 PM

I posted the question but didn't even share my pick for favorite, how silly of me. I'd say Wasp is probably my overall favorite so far, she was just so demanded but then so well done to boot that she's an easy and safe pick for favorite. My second would probably be Deathlok, it's a great use of the Cable buck but the larger size feels more appropriate on Deathlok than Cable. I also feel like it was somehow planned that they revealed the figure just after they name dropped the Deathlok program on Agents of SHIELD, possibly a coincidence or may7be planned, I dunno. The one figure I didn't get but do think looks nice was Ares, I'm not a fan enough to complain about not getting it but I am glad that those who wanted him got such a great figure.

The hair is wrong but the face has just enough Kyle Maclachlan to pass for him. A mishmash of Star Wars parts later and I had myself a Skye's dad figure, placed next to my HYDRA guys and my custom Deathlok from last season. Coulson didn't have his team so had to make do with Fury, Hill & Quake until I could find suitable parts for them. That was until the last episode, and the revelation that Skye's dad is Mr Hyde, and Skye herself is Quake. Now this kinda pissed me off, rather ridiculously in fact, because my Quake head was a princess Leia and had no hint of the half Asian Chloe Bennett in her. I always prefer to have the on screen versions of characters, and nearly all my Avengers are kitbashed into movie figures, but for now Skye/Quake has to have a wrong head, and Mr Hyde has no where to go.

U should make a mold of that coulsen gun. It's beautiful.

I can take no credit for the gun, it's from Vortious Customs for like $5. He does a lot of great 3.75" custom Marvel pieces.

Thanks =) I've been modding a few figures every night, and I'm having a blast with my 3.75 collection again. Here are a few close up individual shots, each one with my new rocker ankle/magnet mod combo:
