@boy blunder

All of Hasbro's Thor figs are grossly out of scale, with the exception of the MCU versions. They (the MCU Thors) are, strangely, perfect...[WTF?] In this age of perpetual requests for updated figs, my suggestion, outside of a new Surfer (:D hah ha! it's been a while!), would be a definitive Thor in his 'actual size' proportionate to the other MLs. While they're at it, Hasbro could redo the entire Wrecking Crew since they also screwed them up by making them in-scale with Thor (only). Thor (and the Wrecking Crew) should be on the Hyperion-buck.

Ehn, it really kinda depends. If you're going off of "Marvel Universe" measurements and statistics, then yeah. But artistic interpretation often ends up making Thor quite a bit taller/larger than his Avengers compatriots (kinda like Hulk, Colossus, and Juggernaut have all gotten much bigger over the years in terms of how they're presented on-panel).

Personally I kinda like it. Really gives Thor a "larger than life" feel.

@Boy Blunder:

I believe the sword was a briefly-held accessory in the Thor run wherein that costume debuted. Might be wrong on that. Either that or it's the "Sword of Odin" but I don't think that's the case.

It's King/Allfather Thor's. He had the sword in the right hand, Mjolnir in his left when he took on the nightly assaults by the armies of the God Butcher in the somewhat recent Thor: God of Thunder as part of that series first storyarc.

It was lead by Ike Perlmutter who used to work for Toy Biz and believes girls toys don't sell. He's the reason why we didn't get a Black Widow in 2012 in the 6 inch Avengers line. The MCC aren't over the movies anymore but they still have some say with the tv shows. Civil War or Dr. Strange should be the last movies they had involvment with.

Interesting thought.

Also at least in the case of the Netflix shows I'm wondering if it's the level of content. A few video game people have said Marvel and Disney asked them not to include Daredevil or Jessica Jones because they didn't want kids associating those people with the Avengers and then watching their shows thinking it'll be the same deal, and I'm wondering if that might extend to the toys as well.

IIRC, isn't that the same reason none of the Netflix characters will be appearing in any of the movies?

I think that rationale is silly. I find it hard to believe kids are buying legends. (not directed towards you, If people in general at Marvel/Hasbro/Netflix/Game Devs are feeling such ways)

Ahh, so it goes with the Build-A-Figure, rather than Thor himself?

IIRC there was a press release a couple months back saying that Hasbro was on-board with making some merchandise based on the Netflix series in the coming year, though no specifics were mentioned.

Yes, I am going by "Marvel Universe" rubrics, because they are far more consistent than artist interpretations (especially nowadays). It's not as common now as it was then, but Marvel has a formulaic look they consider to be "classic." A "look" that influenced greatly the original creation of the "The Marvel Universe," determining sizes and weights for many of their heores. The Buscema family's art used to represent that iconic look and the standard they set carried well into the 90's. The Romita family also carried that torch, as did the Kubert family, more recently. All of these lineal talents are part of schools that have trained many Marvel artists in how to draw with a fairly consistent theme.

Even if you set aside Marvel's "classic look," which is hard to do considering that this phenomenon played an important role in the scales set up for Toy Biz's (and subsequently, Hasbro's) Marvel Legends Figures, Hasbro's "comic" Thor is quite out of place among the figs themselves. I'll use a couple of the characters you mentioned, namely Colossus and the Hulk. Colossus is over 7' in armored form and the Hulk ranges from roughly Thor's intended height of 6'6" (Mr. Fixit) to nearly 9'. The figs for both of these characters tower over most regular figs, as they should. However, equal in stature to both of them is Thor and the Wrecking Crew.

You're entitled to like whatever you want, of course, but many fans are calling for a redo of these figs due to scale probs. The only Hasbro "comic" Thor I don't have is that EU release, but I refuse to display or snap photos of them because they stand out like sore thumbs. The chorus is building to have these figs redrafted.

...also, I've close college buddies that are 6'5" and 6'6" respectively weighing in at two and one half bills...and trust me, they are "larger than life." lol

Back on topic, I watched the first two episodes of Agent Carter S2 today and want to seriously know why we don't have a Peggy figure yet. What is the hold up Hasbro?

I must say I'm very surprised by this. Aside from some very select Muslim communities who forbid their children from being with a man/woman who is not part of the Islamic faith, marriage between races isn't a big issue in Britain. Everyone who isn't actively racist keeps a level head when it comes to these issues, it's gender which seems to be the big problem here.

Regarding an Agent Carter figure, I would love one. Hasbro could use the buck (I'm guessing suited with a skirt) for Pepper Potts and Victoria Hand figures, but aside from that I can't think of many others. Valerie Cooper? Perhaps even Kavita Rao and Cecelia Reyes with an added physician's coat.

Yup as others have said, the sword was wielded by King Thor in the distant future, against the God Butcher's army.

http://thebrotherhoodofevilgeeks.fil...3/03/thor8.jpg

It can also be used in tandem with the Ares or Stryfe figures!

Spyne98 02-04-2016 11:26 AM

Regarding the Thor figure size, I think the latest Thor from the All Father wave works well. He's a little big, but I like it. The Wrecking Crew is freaking huge. They should have been a little shorter. But that's just me.

SymbiSpidey 02-04-2016 11:41 AM

Speaking of Thor, you think we might get a classic Kirby Thor any time soon? They gave us classic versions of Iron-Man and now Cap so Thor seems fitting.

That's an interesting idea and a way in which I could get a Thor more to my liking (and a replacement for my Giant-Man series Thor). It begs the question: how would you make a Thor fig Kirby-esque? Maybe something with the broadness of the face and length of the hair? Or maybe less corded softer looking muscles? The Four Horsemen sculpted the Giant-Man series Thor and it's pretty indicative of Kirby's classic rendition (like all of their Kirby recreations i.e dcuc Fourth world stuff)...

I'm down for this idea, send it upstairs to Hasbro! ;)

I think those would all be pretty nifty changes. I'm with you, there's not really a Thor out there that I would consider THE Thor to get. The Disney Store Marvel Select Thor is, IMO, the best Thor ever made, but he's also a select figure (which means he's out of scale with Legends, though he's only a hair taller than the most recent comic Thor legends we got so I'm living with it). There's also the fact that it's not my preferred outfit. Like I said with Luke Cage and Doc Ock, I love the bright, bold, somewhat campy costumes moreso than these new modern looks.

I'd love if Hasbro just started doing a bunch of classic designs with their characters. But I do understand the need for more modern designs that better represent how the characters currently look.

Yeah, that would certainly be the perfect time to do it. Along with a classic look for Loki. It's still nuts to me the lack of Loki in the Legends line. IIRC, there's only been three versions, one is a movie version and another is a look that most people probably wouldn't consider iconic. The Wal-Mart exclusive one seems decent, but like a lot of those earlier Hasbro Legends, it has some outdated articulation.

Heh heh, saggy baggies... :D They're from the new Mezco figure line, same guys that made that Dark Knight Returns Batman and Judge Dredd. They're in a 6 inch scale too!!!

I wonder what we could expect from a Thor Legends wave. It's heavily rumored Hela and Valkyrie are in the third movie, so a ML for one of them would be cool.

I believe the role that Cate Blanchett rumored cast joining is rumored to be Hela (since neither her addition or the role are confirmed yet) so I assume we would see a Hela figure, maybe even the BAF. But dammit if the other female figure is NOT Enchantress (unless shes' released by herself earlier) I know it's going to piss a lot of people off. Honestly beyond Enchantress I really don't care what we get from that wave.

We recently got both of them. I don't know if they would do another version of these characters so soon.

**EDIT, unless they are movie versions

I don't have a problem if they want to make a smaller Thor. I just like the big Thors just fine. A Thor that's equal in height to Iron Man and barely distinguishable in height (only two inches at full size) from Captain America would just look weird to me at this point.

I like the hulking Wrecking Crew, too. Gives them really good "shelf presence" if that makes sense.

Again, I don't have a problem if they make a "Marvel Universe Handbook accurate" Thor (or two or three). I'd buy 'em. And as others have noted here, a "classic" Thor (swappable Masterson-Helmet and Classic heads) would be long overdue.

TheBlueMarvel 02-04-2016 02:03 PM

@Jmacq1

I hear your perspective, I just have problems when I place Hasbro's Thors next to Herc, Beta Ray Thor, and Toy Biz's Destroyer. In a similar fashion, when I line up the Wrecking Crew with other villains that I know are roughly the same size, such as Tiger Shark, they seem equally out of place. Funny you should mention Iron Man, because MCU fans unfamiliar with Tony from the 'books,' frequently advocate that he should be as tall as Thor with his armor. lol Popularity among fans is a funny thing and even less reliable than artist interpretation! :D

...but whatevs, rock whichever Thor suits your fancy. Mine is still Giant Man series Thor, but in a perfect world, that fig would be the height of those MCU Thors.
