Just got my Mockingbird and Whirlwind in the mail today, and I cannot tell you all how pleasantly surprised I was that Mockingbird's glasses are removable. I mean, it works perfectly for her character, but if you wanted to use the head elsewhere..it's great. Now to find me another one in the wild so I can make my custom firestar....
And @hasbroherofan, yes a Surtur would be cool. Also maybe Fenrir or Jörmungandr.... |
Just got the Red Onslaught. I'm kinda reviewing these figures as I take them out, so I'll leave my final thoughts on the wave once I've reviewed all of them.
Captain America - The figure is decent. I really do enjoy the Grim Reaper mold a lot and I love that Hasbro is taking full advantage of the mold. It really is good for those bulkier characters who aren't outright muscle builder. Cap himself....I have to admit my opinion is kinda soured by my recent acquisition of FO Captain America, whom I consider a far superior figure. The thing that's kinda throwing this figure off for me is the head sculpt. His head, IMO, is too much of a square shape, and on top of that, his head is huge. I can barely see the guy's neck. The paints are standard Hasbro fair, which is to say it's decent but could be better. The red stripes aren't as crisp as they could be and there's blue bleeding all throughout the white sleeve on his arm. His shield straps also don't stay in place at all, so not much reason to use them. The printed shield is decent, but I still prefer the look of the molded ones, plus the paint isn't as on point as it could be. The Cap Wolf head is just awesome. It screams comic book cheese and I love it. It has the same appeal as the pizza slice and unmasked head that came with Spidey for me. Overall, it's a pretty good Cap figure despite everything I pointed out, but still not my favorite. Cottonmouth - There's not much to this guy, but he's pretty awesome. Once again, Hasbro's paint isn't the best, but holy crap that head sculpt. That head sculpt might be some of Hasbro's finest work. The snake pattern they have going on is really cool. Really not much to say. He doesn't come with much, but he's a fun little addition to the collection. He even manages to make that Hyperion body mold look pretty decent. Nicely done, Hasbro. |

After that, a new Kirby Thor would be nice, but beyond that, I'd be game for just about anyone Thor related. On another note, got Taskmaster today from Amazon this afternoon. It's way to early to say it, but man, this is one phenomenal figure and already a contender for my figure of the year. Heck, even my laser sword isn't warped like it is in many reviews. The closest thing I have to a complaint was that it was an absolute bitch to swap the heads to the Udon one. Fortunately, that's a one time swap for me. Even my paint deco is top notch and I don't see any of the plastic "swirls" in the plastic on the arms and the legs. I had almost ordered Mockingbird as well, but didn't and when I changed my mind, she was already sold out from Amazon direct. Oh well, it'll give me some extra time to bounce back from the holidays fiscally and hopefully check out the decos in person. So yeah, I'm a happy man right now. |
Has anyone seen the Onslaught wave in Florida? Some states are getting restocks and I've yet to see them in store once

Demolition Man arrived today. He's okay. I like his weapon assortment, but I don't like that they are colored brown. Is this a problem with having black guns? It seems like Hasbro goes out of their way to deliberately make the guns random colors. Do they just spin the color wheel to see which color each figure's weapons will be? I know nothing about guy. My Marvel Encycopedia seems to know nothing about him either. To me, he looks like he just walked out of a Metal Gear game more than a Marvel comic.
Red Skull is pretty awesome completed, at least when I don't have that ugly purple wing piece thing on his back. He's a little too tall to really battle Cap, but he will do until we actually get the Red Skull we truly deserve (which will probably be during Infinity Part 2. http://i1366.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2qtdcemo.jpg http://i1366.photobucket.com/albums/...psfqyu1ceg.jpg http://i1366.photobucket.com/albums/...psi4gt4wvk.jpg http://i1366.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2mmasdry.jpg http://i1366.photobucket.com/albums/...psa1j1grgo.jpg http://i1366.photobucket.com/albums/...psgv4rlxs9.jpg |

i am so into a classic Thor figure, and would really like a classic hawkeye figure too. the latest hawkeye is good but the head was kinda weird, i want an updated version and wouldnt mind getting rid of my old legends figure. |
@Dr Kain: Demolition Man (or D-Man) is actually Dennis Dunphy. He idolized superheroes and after taking a super serum of sorts to try and become a professional football player he instead got involved in what was basically superhuman wrestling. Eventually he turned to trying his hand at the hero business and adopted a costume which was just a fusion of Daredevil's original yellow and brown look with Wolverine's mask. A good time later he was eventually mid-controlled or manipulated or whatever into becoming the next Scourge which is what this toy is based on. He's back to being good now (after being killed and coming back) and still remains a joke among the superhero community (which has been a long-running thing of his that no other heroes take him entirely seriously).

Wait, he's a good guy? I need to change the shelf I have him on then.

Finally found a Misty Knight without super wonked-out eyes last night! That only took two-ish months of passing her up.

It's funny, but out of all the MLs I've looked at closely since I started collecting them heavily (which, admittedly, hasn't been very long), Misty's been the only one with such a severe eye-wonk issue. Even the Spider-Gwen I got blindly from BBTS had perfectly fine eyes on her unmasked head. Was Misty's QC just really shoddy? |
