That's it. Though a Fleischer Superman with a cloth cape would be bought so fast... |

Maybe I'm sensitive due to the new Cobra B.A.T.s revealing to me that nobody knows how to spell "arctic" (or knows what a red line under the word means when you're typing) but it's not cel shading, folks, it's just shading. The "cel" in cel shading refers to traditional animation cels and the attempt to replicate the look, while this is emulating the look of heavily inked comic book shadows.
I don't like to be pedantic but this is a pretty different approach than, say, ML's toon characters, and I think the distinction between the two is why SDCC Batman is a "like it or leave it" result and the Legends figures are all looking like poo with people wondering how easy it'd be to take the paint off. Anyway, I hope the SDCC Bats isn't too hard to get if the greys are indeed darker, because the near-white of mainline Knightfall Bats had me write it off entirely, same way that the bright blues on AzBats has kept me from being miffed about never scoring him. I am a painter and have no problem fixing up details, but large expanses of color should be intrinsic wherever possible to preserve functionality and that toy "look" that I dig so much. Quote:
That could totally be the beginning of a story where somebody gets too big and everything crashes and burns overnight, but as the body of tooling available for character looks grows (even if we don't agree on how it's used) we've seen offerings expand to use it as much as possible, a very strong move toward driving down production costs and ensuring long-term profitability. This isn't a Funko Pop thing where costs only go down due to sheer volume, McF's tooling amortization game keeps getting better and from the outside this all looks sustainable. They could stop making wholly new figures tomorrow and still be able to carry on for a couple of years, Mattel-/Hasbro-style. No toyline lasts forever (except Barbie) but unless he decides to just call it quits due to licensing costs, this line is going to have one of those long, slow, multi-year deaths, not a quick, messy death. |
First look at Mcfarlane's Collector line and its not worth the extra 10 dollars

Lol these are $10 more?
|
And we STILL don't have a good representation of Superman from Action Comics #1. Absolutely ridiculous.

Seems like inflation finally caught up to Mcfarlane.
We had a good run. |
Still can't shell out at extra pair of matching hands.

The chains accessory for Superman is stupid because it’s not showing him breaking it off. Even if Beast Kingdom is a shitty company, they still bothered to make a chain breaking effect for their classic Superman.
Edit: SMH, they need to include ALL the pictures. McFarlane on Instagram does show this Superman breaking off the chains. |
Nope. Maybe on clearance prices, but that cape on Superman is ridiculous.
I had hoped that after doing cloth capes for Batman that a "premium" line would if not also include them at least not absurdly pre-pose/swoosh them. And no red booties either. It's like they really don't care. |

Dont think I ever realized how terribly off the perspective is on that AC#1 cover.

Why is Alan's lantern transparent when it's a physical item not a construct?
|
definitely not feeling the extra $10 is adding anything. This is a test to see if they can pull a Hasbro and charge more.
|
So a price increase under a "collectors line" label and all you're really getting is a card stand? Wow, they must really not think too highly of collectors I guess.

Yeah, nice going on the pointless apples & oranges comparison.
How about just focusing on McFarlane. They're charging $10 more, yeah ok...but, for what exactly? The prestige of a fancy title? For a card stand? For questionable sculpts & inaccurate costumes? |
if they did a Mcfarlanized take on the Action comics Superman with a new buck I might be excited, but looks like the infected Supes mold is going to be the bucky cap for Mcfarlane.
|
So a new packaging warrants a ten dollar increase? So much for mcfarlanes shit being the best deal put there.
|
Alan is wearing his ring on the wrong hand!

I'm wondering if "collector label" isn't just a way for them to quietly test out a higher price point anyway.
Ok, I'll shut up now. |
