I dunno, last year they revealed more at Toy Fair than they did at SDCC '14 and '15 combined. We caught our first glimpses of the Hulkbuster, Ultron and Rhino waves last year, and since this is supposed to be "the biggest year for MLs ever," I'm keeping my hopes toward the boil...

I have to agree Von. Aside from one or two reveals, SDCC last year was extremely underwhelming, where as NYTF was full of news. And given we're supposed to be getting the reveal of the X-men wave it's sure to be a high profile segment of TF and likely outshine SDCC this year as far as news as well.

deadironpoolman 02-09-2016 04:22 PM

Words can't describe how excited I am to see that X-men wave

Tv Shows have yes.... the movies they supposedly have been trying to make them similar to the comics. or at least so i recall reading.

hasbroherofan 02-09-2016 04:42 PM

Won't happen but I'd love if we could someday someone could do this faceoff with the figures.

The movies have taken a bunch of liberties. Star-Lord was never a sarcastic outlaw space pirate, Gamora and Nebula weren't sisters, Hawkeye and Black Widow weren't founding Avengers, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver weren't genetic experiments from HYDRA, Whiplash wasn't a bulky Russian brawler who can build his own ARC reactors, Bucky Barnes wasn't an adult soldier during World War 2 with no costume or mask, Hank Pym wasn't an old geezer, Scott Lang, Hawkeye, Vision, and Scarlet Witch weren't involved in Civil War, the Vision wasn't powered by an Infinity Stone and wasn't made by Amadeus Cho's mom, the list goes on and on.

I'm not talking story wise in continuity but rather with characters appearances and trying to stay close to their comic counter parts. asides from sam jackson Nick fury, everyone else looks very similar.

Actually Vision was in Civil War, my last post discussed him helping Cap kick Iron Man's ass. Otherwise many of your points are valid.
Such as Star-Lord in the comics was a jaded failed superhero not a scoundrel, though he was often witty. In the movie I give little to no credit for Vision's birth to Helen Cho, it was all just Ultron using her technology until the Avengers intervened.

It was A Vision but not the original one, and regardless, Helen Cho was swapped in for Professor Horton from the comics, making another change.

Heimdall wasn't black, Agent Sitwell wasn't Latino (or a mole for HYDRA), Alexander Pierce looks nothing like his comic counterpart, and there's a whole host of other cosmetic changes as well.

And either what, it's not really relevant since Iron Fist would be in the TV shows, not the movies.

Your response also raises an amusing point. I just pointed out the large number of ways the MCU veers away from the comic book canon and makes tons of changes, but somehow it's the race swapping that is viewed as going too far.

Well, time travel does tend to complicate matters. Eventually Jonas was destroyed and the original was restored but we know that inevitably he'll be destroyed at some point and made into Jonas so he can come back in time to be destroyed again.

We are pretty damn close to that when you think about it. We have Cap, Iron-Man, Widow, Hawkeye, Ant-Man, War Machine. We have a Winter Solider, unless you're feeling picky about it not being the right outfit. We're getting Black Panther. We really just need Wanda, Vision and Sam. And I have no doubt that the Scarlet Witch we're getting is her movie outfit.

hasbroherofan 02-09-2016 06:01 PM

True. Dang, I really hope they get around to Falcon and Vision someday!

Your talking about all irrelevant characters whom no one gives a rats ass about.... it quite obvious every character you listed was some of the supporting cast. Not the main people in the films.... you must watch or be into every single B list character in the marvel universe.

Explain to myself as well as others because this exact topic was at hand a week or so back. tell us why you think it doesn't matter to "race swap" as you called it for a character that was since their creation a Caucasian male??

So johnny storm since his creation in 1961 has been an Caucasian American male with blonde hair and blue eyes, Jimmy Olsen since his creation from 1941 has been white with red hair and freckles. so how does this not look or seem wrong to you ?

Why not for the black panther film we have coming in the future we have jonah hill portray T-challa, or how about say for that john stewart green lantern film supposedly due out, have brad pitt play him... does that seem logical to you in anyway? it doesn't to me and im not even black.

Same goes with Iron Fist, why would we change his ethnicity ??? what will this accomplish other then pissing off the people that are hard core fans, and just make it look completely off.....

No, my point right there is that Marvel does it all the time because it doesn't matter. You completely skipped over the points I listed of all the many many MANY changes to comic book canon Marvel makes in its movies. Do you know why Marvel does so? Because it doesn't matter. They aren't in the business of making straight off the page, panel for panel adaptations of their comics.

Because I really don't care, nor do most people. That's what you seem to be missing. To the vast majority of people watching, it doesn't matter, and clearly Marvel and DC realize it doesn't matter or they wouldn't keep doing it.

A white Black Panther wouldn't make sense because of a very specific reason. He's the king of an isolationist African country with no contact with the outside world.

The people you keep mentioning like Iron Fist and such? Their race isn't relevant to the character in the slightest. The important part of Iron Fist's backstory is that he's not from K'un-L'un and comes from a rich family. The important part of Jimmy Olsen's story is is that he's a photographer and journalist and Superman's pal.

To be fair, these movies aren't supposed to be exact replicas of the source material, merely they're stories based off of those characters and concepts. It's no different from any of the other alternate universe storylines we get for these characters. If we can get a version of Spider-Man that's a pig or better yet, one that's japanese and pilots a Megazord, I don't see the big deal about having an asian Iron Fist.

Like I said, I wouldn't go around changing a character's race just because, but if an asian actor can fully encapsulate the core values and themes of the Iron Fist character, then I say go for it.

I love how conflicted Black Widow appears in many of the promos. She appears to be the only character to fully recognize the enormity of the situation. I hope the Russo Bros. will handle her character with respect once again. She was fantastic in Wintersoldier, not so much in Age of Ultron.

Perhaps she'll be in the position Spider-Man was during the actual Civil War story arc? Maybe not directly, but in the sense that she'll represent the heart and soul of the conflict?

Her AoU outfit looked very close to Jean Grey's ultimate attire post ultimatum.

Von said it looked like Marvel Now. It's in the part you quoted. I really liked her Now costume, I thought it was pretty elegant.

Nick Fury in the Ultimates looks very similar to Samuel Jackson. It's kind of inside joke if you will, as when the Ultimates series debuted, there was a issue where Nick Fury and the rest of the team are sitting around having a conversation about who they would want to play them in a movie. Nick Fury comments that he'd like to be played by no one other that Samuel L. Jackson. It was one of the reasons that so many of us geeked out when we first saw Nick Fury introduce himself in Iron Man all them years ago. Marvel literally casted the character for the films right out of the comic...

SymbiSpidey 02-09-2016 09:04 PM

For anybody living in Tampa the Wal-Mart on Dale Mabry right across from Target has an entire unopened case of the new Captain America legends.

redfox 02-09-2016 09:29 PM

Regarding Scarlet Witch's Civil War costume, I don't see a single costume reflection, but more of a hodgepodge of her Marvel Now, All-New All-Different, and X-men: Evolution costumes. The color and style remind me of the Marvel Now costume. The bodice and black leggings scream the All-New All-Different costume. While the overcoat, necklaces, finger-less gloves, and lack of tiara bring back memories of the X-men: Evolution costume.

hasbroherofan 02-09-2016 09:55 PM

I think in a way this takes the best parts of the various looks. For one, I always thought the combo of the overcoat and the tiara looked weird together, but it looks much better when she's not wearing any headgear.

And we've had a white Black Panther. Canon. In 616, in the comics. So white they called him Kasper. It happened over a decade ago, but all the people who bring up this argument don't actually seem to be familiar enough with the comics.

Um, because he is white. There doesn't need to be a reason. He was created white so he needs to be white. That's like turning Peter Parker black. No, just no.

People are bitching up a storm about a white man being cast to play Michael Jackson. However, those very same people have no problem with a black man playing a white super hero. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

I am against all race changes because there are plenty of characters to choose from if you want a character from another race. How about taking that D lister Battlestar and turning him into a B lister by exposing him to the world and making everyone love him through solid writing?

Imagine that. A world where good writing turns the most unknown into a fan favorite. Making people like a character they didn't even know they wanted to like. You think someone just proved it can work when they made this little movie about a group of unknowns that featured a talking tree and a raccoon with a machine gun.
