I'm amazed Hasbro has put out so many Spider-women in such a short amount of time, and if rumor has it, more are on the way.

If a new Julia, Ashley, Cindy or a new Jessica are released, I will be required to purchase them

I'm glad someone caught the reference.

It is a sad day when we realize that the lies we tell ourselves are just that. Oh my Legends lies, how I will miss you.

Today's journey of self discovery began with a stop at TRU in search of Taskmaster, Scourge and perhaps (because I have convinced myself I need as many Shield agents as possible) Mockingbird and Sharon Carter. Of the four, only Scourge was had. Then as I stood there staring at the 4 Caps and 2 Copperheads, the lone Whirlwind appeared in my hand. A figure I had no intention of buying and quite frankly always thought looked somewhat ridiculous. And yet, said figure left the row, was carried to the checkout line and promptly purchased.

Fast forward to about an hour ago as I head from work to Meijer for groceries. Hey, I may as well make a swing by the currently being revamped toy isle with those virtually empty Legends pegs right? Just a couple Rhino wave figures but hey, stacks of toy boxes and an eager to help and only slightly judgy employee ready to help me look through them. What should I find? A box containing the illusive Taskmaster which began today's journey? No. Rather a full box of the Absorbing Man wave. Of this wave, the only figure I had full intention of buying was Ben Reilly. Spider-Gwen was a possibility. I do not understand the hype but I dig the costume design and can always use more female characters. And yet, as I stand there holding both, I begin to debate the remainder of the case. As a relatively new collector, the only Venom in my collection is of the Agent variety and the new one is quite impressive. Morbius, Beetle and Jack hold virtually no interest for me. However Speed Demon holds unexpected appeal. As I pull the four figures from the box and place them in my cart, the still slightly judgy employee takes the box and heads to stock the remainders on the peg, thankfully averting my gaze long enough to prevent me from buying more than the 4 I had.

So what does this ungodly long-winded post mean? If you (lets face it, did not skip over my ramblings) recall, this post began with a comment about lies we tell ourselves. I have long stated that I hope for waves of figures I do not care about and thus will not need to buy with a few I do want mixed in here and there. And yet, as I look at the more than one Wolverine (perhaps my most loathed character, Deadpool RULES, Wolvie DROOLS) in my collection, along with the entire Ant-Man wave which I had no intention of buying and then saw the movie, I find I am without a doubt completely full of crap. I am a slave to these 6" plastic characters and my willpower is but a dream with new figures in my sights.

I know the feeling. I had no intention to buy anyone outside of Cap, Mockingbird, and Sharon for the Cap Wave and now I have them all.

SymbiSpidey 02-13-2016 08:32 AM

Me on the Hulkbuster wave: "Meh...I might just grab the Dr. Strange and buy the rest of the pieces online."

*sees the rest of wave in my local Walgreens*

"WHOA! New Legends....I'll just pick up 3 or 4..."
"Well I have half the wave, might as well finish it."

That is exactly me and the Absorbing Man wave. Thank goodness I think the Red Onslaught is a horrible concept and I have no real desire to get anything beyond Mockingbird and Whirlwind and maybe Cap and Sharon.

I don't plan to go far down the rabbit hole with the Spider-women. Spider-Gwen, if I can ever find her, and a new Cindy Moon would be nice.

I think it befits Red Skull though. He can't be Cap on his own, so he would use a giant robot suit to do so.

I wouldn't worry too much. These days, the amount of time a character spends dead before getting resurrected has (for the most part) been drastically shortened. Even if they kill off Jen and Rhodey, they'll both be back in due time.

redfox 02-13-2016 09:28 AM

^Yep, deaths in the Marvel universe hardly even phase me anymore. More like a character hiatus. They'll be back.

TheBlueMarvel 02-13-2016 09:33 AM

@Kirathis

"An ode to my Legends," or "The Ballad of the Collector." You should, at the very least, name your lyrical prose.

Welcome to the rabbit hole, Kirathis. I hope you enjoy your stay and find peace within yourself and your collection. lol A long time ago, I resigned myself to the fact that I will end up with MANY figs that I don't need (and sometimes, don't even want). I've read that Americans create collections of nonessential goods like no other industrialized nation. In many ways, this aspect of Americana has created wealth for manufacturers (whatever the product) from the 50's forward. Bric-a-brac, clothes, jewelry, coins, cars, and antique Coke bottles represent just a small sample of our culturally documented tastes. Some might argue that this is the reason we have been coined the "super-consumers" of the world. When I think of the large collections that have passed through my hands (and the ones I still own), I have no concrete answer behind the driving force, other than a vague sense of "want."

I have had huge collections of Star-Wars, GI Joe, Shogun Warriors, Godakins, comics, books, music tapes/vinyl/cds/downloads, Sega Master Stystem/Genesis/Saturn (import mostly, I has' style)/Dreamcast/Xbox/Playstation games, and VHS/DVD/downloaded movies all throughout the years. I loathe materialism, but freely admit my own hypocrisy as it pertains to my personal collections. Like you, sometimes I feel as though the individuals I purchase these items from are looking through me; appraising my priorities. Maybe the judgement we infer from the eyes of others is some form of psychological 'tell' regarding the judgements we hold of ourselves. I dunno...

My limit stands at the threshold of "hoarder," another telltale sign of America's collecting obsession...I think we've created much of the modern lexicon behind the term (at least on a societal level) and we may have been the first nation to identify it as a mental-health issue...don't quote me, I'd need to refer to my DSM-IV (not in the field anymore, so I don't own the recently updated DSM-V) and cross-reference the historical appearance of the condition (I'm not gonna do that by the way :p). Once any one collection of mine grows too large and cumbersome, that's when I know I need to sell the surplus. As long as your collection doesn't push you out of your home and it doesn't stand between you and your loved ones, you're good IMO. We all tell little lies to ourselves now and then...Be kind to yourself because others are less inclined to be...I don't personally believe in "YOLO," but the sentiment works here...

I'm a sucker for those Spider-Ladies

I'm just sick of Death, rape, and any other terrible negative changes that effect stories as plot devices that get dangled in front of readerships, where as there's other life altering moments that, to me, are more interesting changes that impact characters and stories, like Kitty and Star-Lord's relationship or Spider-Woman's pregnancy.

Also on a sidenote, if Kitty is on a teen buck and looks like the old Marvel girl released a few years back, you can always do a head swap

Same result. That's rather frustrating. Hopefully we see them some time today though!

Saw this photo from The site that rhymes with Douche. It appears Deadpool has an unmasked head:

Loving the fact that Hasbro has decided to basically give us unmasked heads for every major hero.

Is that going to be the new card?

3233rafael 02-13-2016 11:48 AM

Hasbro panel is next according to that link posted earlier.

PlayTime 02-13-2016 11:54 AM

DC Designer Series looks like they are trying to look like Figuarts and now Hasbro trying to use Figuarts packaging LOL

If that is the new card then I agree.

redfox 02-13-2016 12:10 PM

^^The above Iron Man is part of the new 12in Legends. In the background you can see 6in Deadpool's feet and unmasked head, though.

Isn't that the 12" figure though? We're already getting new cards (sort of) as of the Absorbing Man wave.

Ah, no wonder, thanks for clarifying.
