Dang...more catgirls. I missed out of Coffin Bean Toralei...I need to find that Field Trip one and that Katrine!! My GF digs the Pirate one too...definitely one of the better designs they've come out with lately...

Passed on the Walking Dead's Carol at GameStop. The figure had really bad paint apps on the face. It looked like Carol had a cold sore on her lip and a beauty mark on her cheekbone.

Trivial Psychic 12-04-2014 08:58 PM

Ran into a few things at TRU that I took note of...

Another Vader yes...but finally saw one in the Rebels line. Excellent sculpt, and I'm surprised that he came with a cloth cape.
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...204_180815.jpg

There was at least an entire case of ONLY Starkillers on the pegs, I wonder if this was intentional, or a mistake by Hasbro. Still a really nice figure. While the paints are hit and miss, I'm glad they fixed the head sculpt, as I felt that the one on the SW Vintage release was too small. I love the amount of accessories he comes with too.
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...204_181004.jpg

Also ran into the new Jaegers from the Pacific Rim line....Romeo Blue was nowhere to be found though...I'm guessing that he might be a packed later in the line.

In the end I grabbed Tacit Ronin, and came REALLY close to getting Gypsy as well. I already have the battle damaged version of her however, and opted to not drop 20 dollars on basically the ship and interchangeable hands. It looks like they did a slight upgrade to the chain sword too, as the peg on the sword that plugs into the hand looks more sturdy and is longer. It boasts about new articulation on the packaging, so I'm curious, is it a drastic upgrade from the original Gypsy Danger figures? If so...I may just end up picking it up.

The majority of the new sculpting is fairly minimal and really just the fine details, however the pose is drastically increased apparently. The hips for example now have the added accuracy of those pistons and have a wider more accessible pose range, the knees are apparently double hinged now, bicep swivel, and the feet have a hinge part way through the foot not just at the heel. I don't have one but from reading/watching about it that's what's new, it's also a bit taller though that actually detracts to me for some reason. I'd say all in all unless Gipsy is your favorite Jaeger if you already have the original or the battle damaged version of that as a good stand in then this figure isn't really a must get, if Gipsy is however your absolute favorite then it's a good upgrade.

Wha...!?
MI wave 2&3 hitting french supermarkets for Christmas!?

http://www.toyark.com/attachment.php...1&d=1417770071

(since they're not popular, I'll wait for a January discount though)

I wasn't able to snap a pic, because my local TRU was packed with holiday shoppers tonight, but I spotted two more G.I Joe Retaliation Night Vipers.
I guess the last Retaliation waves are still slowly trickling into TRUs.

I've never been into troop building when it comes to my Joe collection, but I still probably would have picked up at least one to go with the Night Viper I currently have if I didn't have so much holiday shopping left to do.
I'm actually kinda regretting it now, especially since they were on clearance for only $7, and they tend to sell for MUCH higher than that on the secondary market.

I found and left 5 Brainstorms at a local Walmart this morning. Crazy!

Will have to be on the lookout for Brainstorm, that traitor. A Decepticon infiltrator this whole time. Idw really does know how to write TF books. The last few years of TF comics have been the best ever written.

Even though you and I are only around 170 miles apart, I'll probably never see Brainstorm until February. Thanks distribution!

Trivial Psychic 12-07-2014 08:46 PM

I ran into four of the new Transformers tonight for the new "Robots In Disguise" cartoon...and at the risk of sounding like a TF:Prime fanboy, I was NOT happy or impressed at all. Granted, they were only one step changers and not the voyager or deluxe figures that are bound to hit in the future, but it doesn't really matter as the character designs are incredibly ugly, and they flat out SUCK. Transformers Animated, which was a show I also didn't care much for, had awesome stylized designs that blew these ones away tenfold. While I admit that I have yet to see an episode (or even a proper trailer yet) I already have very little faith in the new series, and unless this show blows all the others away, it looks like it shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as TF:Prime.

I normally don't get all riled up at Hasbro for their decision making, but I REALLY wanna slap a Hasbro rep for opting to replace TF:Prime, which outside of the SW: The Clone Wars was one of the finest animated shows on television...for this ugly nonsense.

I checked out the second I read that Bumblebee is the now leader of the Autobots. **** that man. I never liked him before the Bay movies but now that they've been trying to make him the face of TFs I just flat out can't stand him. And that awful "we can't have him talk" bull**** is full-on stupid.

He talks in the new show. It's a followup from TF: Prime. So saying anything more spoils the finale from that.

snake5289 12-07-2014 10:37 PM

No worries there. I've got all of Prime on DVD.

I thought Prime ended really well and continuing from that seems like a weak choice. Guess that explains some things but I'm still passing.

You mean like how Beast Machines was feckin' trash right after Beast Wars (which was the best Transformers show ever)? I never got into Prime, just don't care really, the art style wasn't really doing it for me and hearing that Wheeljack wasn't a scientist hurt my feeling organ. I also don't care for how many things have Optimus go without his faceplate as much as possible.

snake5289 12-08-2014 12:53 AM

I suppose. I never watched Beast Machines.

Wheeljack was cool but could have easily been reworked into one of the actual Wreckers instead of changing an already established character. It's over and done now so it doesn't really matter anymore.

glane21 12-08-2014 11:41 AM

I didn't snap any pics but Big Lots has Thor 2 figures @ $8. saw a Dark elf on the pegs along with a couple Kurse and various Thor versions.

If you have an Ollie's Discounts near you, they have the Marvel Legends Terrax and Arnim Zola waves @ 9.99. Also the Joe Retaliation wave with Budo in it at 3.99.

Well Beast Machines took all of the well developed characters from Beast Wars who didn't die and completely changed them. Rhinox got killed and turned into a bad guy somewhere off-screen, Rattrap became a cowardly, selfish, sometimes traitor instead of a reluctant but loyal and good spy, Cheetor was suddenly bumped into leader position (sound familiar with the yellow kid friendly character becoming leader in the sequel show), I recall Optimus Primal being pretty flat and plain hippie leader who died at the end, and they made Silverbolt into a pink peacock. Bad times.

From what I saw of Wheeljack it seemed more like they wanted him to be Springer. Just like in that crappy Age of Extinction movie it seemed very much like Drift was just supposed to be Springer, I mean c'mon a robot who turns into a car and a helicopter who mainly uses a sword to fight.

Poison Shadow 12-08-2014 01:40 PM

I saw some of the new TMNT variations recently, the RPG ones. Decided that, as much as I like them, I don't need 'em. Rocksteady is the last one I'll be buying, unless they make a Tokka to go with Rahzar.

I like Beast Machines. It really should have featured a new cast of characters, but regardless, I love the art style that the show had. I re-watch it about once a year. Some scenes are just beautiful. Aside from Rattrap's bot mode and Cheetor's lower half, a lot of the redesigns were great too. Again, they probably would have been better off as new characters though.

That sounds awful. I'm gonna guess and say Megatron wasn't a sick dragon in Beast Machines? I still have that toy and it's still awesome.

I haven't seen AoE yet even though the DVD is sitting at my grandparents house. I wasn't aware of Drift can turn into helicopter. I could see how Wheeljack can be seen as a Springer substitute but he doesn't have a helicopter mode. Then again he does fly a ship...hmmm. I don't understand why they won't just use Springer. I loved him in the animated movie when I was a kid.

Actually I think Megatron was still a dragon, but he was more of the stay back and give orders type of villain than a take charge and do battle villain. They gave him a ludicrous power boost though so if he was in every episode to fight then the Maximals would have lost pretty early. The main villains that fought the good guys were just like tank drones, flying drones, and more drones led by Tankor (Rhinox's dead/corrupted spark), Thrust (Waspinator's reformatted spark), and some other drone leader (Silverbolt's dead/corrupted spark). The show would have been better to me if it either wasn't Transformers at all and just something new or if they were an all new cast of characters like Poison Shadow said, though the abundant and overdone hippie preaching was still "meh."

Poison Shadow 12-08-2014 03:15 PM

So, at least one of my Big Lots seems to have that awesome 3.75" "action force" stuff or whatever they call it. I don't think I've seen any since last Christmas. If I was a bigger Joe collector, I'd buy a few of those vehicles for sure. The playset I bought last year for a diorama is great.

And yeah, Megatron was still the Transmetal II dragon. He couldn't purge his system of that form because it was too powerful, which he hated, because once he got back to Cybertron he saw all organic lifeforms as disgusting and wanted to wipe them all out. He had a suit built that would restrain his transformation, which gave him a pretty sweet Hannibal Lectre-like facemask. He had some scientists working to rid him of that DNA, but they were never able to.

The biggest problem with Beast Machines is that, when production began with all-new writers from those that had written Beast Wars, Hasbro explicitly told them NOT to watch the previous series or familiarize themselves with it in any way. I believe one of the co-creators said that he eventually found an episode guide for BW with one-line synopses of each show just because he didn't feel right about doing a sequel totally blind. That could potentially be where Rhinox's betrayal came from, because remember, he turned Predacon for one episode during BW.

I hardly remember most of Beast Machines, the only reason I currently remember Beast Wars so well is because I watched all of it on Netflix. I disliked killing off Rhinox in BM as he was my favorite character in BW, but then having him go crazy "kill everyone" when he was mentally restored was even worse considering his nature in the original show.

Probably better they used Drift then. Could you imagine the complaints if they did the samurai motif on Springer instead? So that one I'd say count your blessings on. Cause if we're Lucky, TF5 may start pulling the rampant loose threads together and salvage the films into being cohesive. Of course, that's assuming they go for story and effects. Instead of solely effects extravaganza.

Besides, at least it made some cool toys and gave us some bad ass generations figures.

Fair point, and I really do like the Scorn deluxe figure and the new evasion mode Prime voyager. I keep hoping that maybe because in the DotM they called the scientist Que then maybe in future movies they could still do Wheeljack and not kill him. I've slowed down my Transformers train and have become much more picky about what gets bought recently. I try now just to get my favorite characters but I will be swayed into picking up some just because the toy looks so damn neat. Like the new Arcee, I liked Arcee in G1 a good amount but she wasn't a favorite so even though this new toy looks decent (except for that back pack) I'll pass. Alternatively even though I didn't like RiD at all as a show and I didn't care much for Sky Byte (who seemed way more cool and useful in the introductory movie than the series itself) I do very much like sharks and the toy looks cool so I did get that.

Perhaps it's time we stop using this thread to talk Transformers and get it back to things we left on the shelves and the pegs.
