I don't think they're looking that bad for what they are (mass produced $20 toys). The Chris Pratt likeness could be better, but the others are OK.
No doubt there will be new versions for the 2nd movie, with different costumes.

Gamora Looks horrible to me, Drax is OK, Rocket has no character in him, and Starlord I plan on displaying him with the mask, but something about his shirt or pants throws me off and I can't quite call it (his Coat, mask and accessories are legit to me though).

Frankly, I don't think Hasbro is able to recreate likenesses in toy form. Their GI Joe movie line and the Star Wars faces are down right atrocious.

Just check out Mattel's Bats v Supes (any line) & you'll see far worse.
Some Hasbro figures have pretty good likenesses: Black Widow, Thor, Finn & Rei for those I was able to see or purchase. Even some older Black Series are more than OK (Ep.II Obi wan or RotJ Luke).

I liked him when he first came out, i thought he was way bad ass.

While were at death's head II, why not make the other 2 or was it 3 characters he was on that team with. Death metal and death wreck. They were pretty interesting too

I thought Rei and Finn looked down right terrible. In fact, Rei looked like a man.

Agreed on Mattel's faces, especially for the BvsS line.

The only Marvel figures in that scale I think do really good actor likenesses is Marvel Select. Hasbro and Bandai Tamashii can't do them well for some reason.

Select are in the 7" scale and it really does seem to sometimes make a difference in the level of sculpting they an fit in. At the same time I think if the paint isn't on par then the sculpt can be lost, this can be seen with the Disney store exclusive Ant-Man where weak paint makes it look not so much like Paul Rudd.

SymbiSpidey 03-19-2016 02:47 PM

I finished Daredevil Season 2 yesterday and all I have to say is.....Netflix Daredevil, Punisher and Elektra when? :D

Also wouldn't mind a Nobu.

I just finished S2 E1 and I concur. They would look awesome next to the MCU Avengers and Spidey.

Very true. Though I thought the Thor they did for the Dark World (and then rereleased for Age of Ultron) was a very good Hemsworth likeness.

One of the few Legends figures I thought did a really good actor likeness was the Age of Ultron War Machine. That looked like Don Cheadle a lot.

Yeah the AoU War Machine is pretty good for Hasbro as long as it has good paint. I think Hasbro can do good basic sculpts sometimes but their paint is often where they drop the ball. Like the Star Wars Black Series figures, I've seen customs that paint over the Hasbro paint work with their own and they look great which shows that the sculpt is often good enough as is but the application of color needs finesse. But then of course Hasbro is a toy company chiefly for children so I would never expect them to up their details like that as it is not necessary for their market rather just for the smaller collector market.

Aquaman looks like hes a homless dude on skidrow, wonder woman and unmasked bats look like they were born with durp faces. Supes is OKAY but "juuuuussstttt a bit outside."

One would hope. I was not particularly taken with any of the figures from the wave. As mentioned, paint and minor modifications to the figures have vastly improved their overall looks. I know many people cut off Starlord's jacket and even that seemed to improve the figure. A much more articulated Rocket would be awesome.

The comic version Nova Prime was far and above the breakout figure of the wave and I seem to recall reading somewhere it was one of if not the top sold Legends figure that year.

It was mentioned during the SDCC press conference a few years ago that it was the highest selling legends figure of all time...which isn't all that bad for a figure I personally felt was really weak QC wise. While I know that many of the figures from that wave suffered from that softer, gummy plastic they were using at the time, Nova (among all of the figures in that wave that my wife purchased) really stood out as being the gummiest, with really bad rubbery and weak joints to boot. Couple it with the metallic paint, and he's also sticky. My wife's Nova is a nightmare to stand in anything other than a static pose, and just feels gross to touch. I don't even call him Nova around her...he's known as Gumby.

I can imagine that we will end up getting a new wave of figures once GotG Vol: 2 drops. Although, something in my gut tells me it will be a comic book based wave, as opposed to being a movie based one. We have been starting to see rumors of a Space Knight Venom BAF in the works, and Angela (who was moonlighting with the GotG for a while) was the winner of the fan vote last SDCC...which is two comic based figures at the least right there. Considering that a lot of GotG figures languished on store shelves for some time (at least they did in my area) it wouldn't surprise me if sales from the upcoming Civil War wave(s) will determine whether or not we get more movie based, or comic based Guardians.

Bandai did a perfect job capturing Luke's likeness on the Figuart.

Last night i was watching a few episodes of daredevil season 2, great shows for those of you that haven't tried it.

Anyways i thought to myself we need some more Daredevil figures. We already currently have classic yellow and the red costume. I think i'd like to see a netflix version, armored, shadow land, and ANAD costumes.

I'd be happy with either all or some of those.

Panther 03-20-2016 10:33 AM

I have no doubt in my mind that we will get Movie based Legends from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 wave. Updated Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, and a more articulated Rocket with a better face sculpt. I expect the Guardians to be in their new uniforms, and for a baby or teenage Groot to come with Rocket. Add 2 or 3 comic figures to the wave, and don't forget the BAF.

Don't forget Mantis and Yondu. They are supposed to be joining the team this time.
