the new Superman figure from the Batman 66 action figure of the old Adam West Batman show, whos the Superman supposed to be based off of? George Reeves or something?

Ugh, so disappointed with this wave of Batman 66. I've bought every figure (even the ones I didn't really need) just to support the line keeping going, especially with the awesome playsets, but this wave is just disappointing in so many ways.
I don't even mind keeping to repeat buy the repetitive Batman and Robin repaints (though even though these are straight-up repaints, they actually do look pretty nice) - but the most disappointing thing is that in the SDCC slide reveal of this slate, they showed the maskless Robin and I was so happy to get him without having to pay $300 for the old exclusive (the only "hard to get" item in the line). Plus, the old exclusive had a crap paint job anyway, which is why I'd never buy it (especially since I'm an opener for these). Now that we have Wayne Manor, it's just silly not to have Bruce and Dick - and I would have been happy enough just to get the maskless Robin so we at least could use that with the existing maskless Batman. If this had been included, I probably would have just preordered the whole wave like I usually do and not said anything, but without it - this is basically a double wave of figures with not a single one that I really want. I was totally happy subsidizing figures like King Tut and Egghead with buying the repaints in the wave as well, but since nothing else from the TV series is in this one, I just may skip it. It's a shame, because I loved supporting this line, the figures are affordable and usually not difficult to get - and while realistically I knew we weren't actually going to get the whole list of guest stars that we may want, I still expected them to keep including at least one per wave, like a Louis the Lilac or Clockwork King here and there. |
Jokerized Robin? Another really stupid figure that’s gonna be sold out for some reason.

But I think there is just as much a case that it's a generic image to avoid paying for a likeness. |

If the assignment is to design a version of Superman that looks as much like a frail, beta dweeb as possible, the mission is a success. That is truly embarrassing.

I agree and I'm in the same boat. I'm sure somebody's said this, but the skeleton guy is Lord Death Man from the vintage Japanese manga (which is a hoot and available translated). Otherwise I am assuming too that this wave is all from the BATMAN '66 comic?
I think we are to the point where they are out of likenesses they have licensed (or are buying time perhaps)...like other folks around here, I'm the guy who would buy Bruce, Dick, Commissioner Gordon, Alfred, Chief O'Hara, and a Commissioner's office diorama. (....Just not Aunt Harriet.) So it's sad that, I think, we are reaching the end. But let's give props to old Todd for making Hasbro look terrible yet AGAIN, in actually answering fans' pleas to reissue regular Batman and Robin, and still keeping them cheaper than Legends! |
Something that has been discussed before is that there are a handful of likeness rights intrinsic to the '66 license as part of the package deal. The Dynamic Duo and primary 4 rogues are included (Newmar & Kitt are included for Catwoman but not Meriwether IIRC) along with Tut, Egghead, Preminger Freeze, Shame, Bookworm, and Alfred. They still haven't touched those last three, so I'm assuming they're trying to shift the line over to comic-centric before wrapping those ones up.
Other characters are done on an actor to actor basis (which is why we have comic Batgirl) and I believe that's been the hold up on any kind of Gordon figure, as Neil Hamilton's descendants seem to be untraceable. False Face would probably be the easiest likeness skirting ever (heck, even when we saw Commodore Mendez's face, he was wearing a prosthetic nose) and I'm sure a helmeted Sanders Freeze would be an acceptable compromise for most, so there are still avenues left for getting more live-action incarnations in the line. |
That Superman doesnt look anything like George Reeves, Bob Holiday or the Allred Superman from the '66 comics. Weird that they're just doing it however they want.

I did some repaints too... not really any dry brushing but I mostly just fixed, added and changed colours for some of them. https://youtu.be/ZgZ76DHFEF8 |

I'm in Hong Kong and all of these figures are released already, I uploaded a review for Alan Scott Green Lantern and there's NOTHING collector's about it. Tonight my video will be out for the Antimonitor. I also got catman and tim drake robin (TAS Grayson colours are awesome lol) I did see the Joker red robin, abyss (both colours), action comics superman, pencil batman, classic riddler. oh and the batman movie pack too. but sold out. |
I've seen Vampire Superman and Captain Atom at a couple of local Walmarts. The stores that have had them seem to have plenty.

I think this new Knightfall Batman may be the best "total package" figure McFarlane has created. The head sculpt is wonderful and the articulation works really well. I need a cloth cape then I think I'll repaint him. Darken up the the light gray of the body suit a bit. |

New version black/gray Batman's mask looks odd, I don't remember his mask not covering the entire nose.

Good grief. Apparently wanting an accurate Action Comics Superman is too much to ask.

Now that I have SP Black Manta in hand I realize that Todd went with the Super Friends Legion of Doom design for him. It makes sense in so much as if he had come out during the original 80’s super powers run that would have been the look they would have gone with.
