Which is the better figure to try and get a hold of, Regular Evil-Lyn or Battleground Evil-Lyn?

Lionheart 01-14-2013 04:18 PM

ok, that's doable, especially since my she-ra has a really loose ankle that makes her fall over all the time
I hate hate hate loose ankles on MotUC. I have the same issue with a couple of figures (Faceless One is the worst) and they just can't be posed because the ankles can't take their weight.

I would say Battleground is a little easier to get now. Also a better fig. She has a cape, spellcasting hand, two heads (one with helmet one without) and a choice of orbs for the top of her staff (one glows in the dark). She looks more like cartoon Evil-Lyn rather than the vintage toy version, whereas the other one looks like the vintage toy but not like the cartoon.

EDIT: If you also want the birds - original Evil-Lyn comes with Screech, Battleground doesn't.

Veronica Mars 01-16-2013 11:27 PM

I was looking on ebay at some of the figures I hope to someday have, just to get an idea of what the second hand market cost was going to be (Shadow Weaver and Sorceress make me want to cry) and I noticed a lot of postings for people selling the white mailer boxes, is there really a market for that?

Dr Kain 01-17-2013 08:20 AM

Battleground Evil-Lyn is far superior to Simpsons Evil-Lyn.

Veronica, yes, for some reason, people want to buy the white mailers. There are even people who will not buy MOC MOTUC figures if they don't include the mailers.

I've herd of people trading one complete MOTUC fig for like 20 white mailer boxes. But that was years ago. I thought some collectors wanted them to store there first year figs that did not come with the white mailer boxes. Other than that IDK why anyone would pay actual $ for them. Mine get thrown away.

DHeezy81 01-17-2013 01:19 PM

I would love 8 Matty Mailers for the original 8 figures that came w/out them. I'm a MOC collector and when it comes time to store them away to make room to display other figures. Those boxes are excellent for preserving the packages and makes over boxing them a breeze.

This is what a complete collection of MOTUC looks like when there's no room left for Eternia! lmao

I guess it must be like the old Kenner SW card backs

I'd be one of those people.

Shadow Weaver makes me want to cry too... and so does Fisto! Sorceress is my favourite fig though, I think both versions are good...

The boxes are part of the official packaging, and when you have a few you start to view them as an integral part. Some of them have the character names on the front, too. Plus, as DHeezy said; they make the figures really easy to store. The only things I have with no white mailers are two weapons packs I bought from a store a couple of weeks ago, and it feels like they aren't complete!

Veronica Mars 01-17-2013 03:51 PM

I like Temple of Darkness Sorceress but I think if I end up with one I'd prefer it to be the classic color one, I haven't even looking into fisto yet. I'm thinking about the sub next year, maybe how much is the initial cost?

DHeezy81 01-17-2013 03:59 PM

The initial cost of the sub is about $65. 25 for the sub, 25 for the first figure. & shipping.

A sub will end up, after shipping. Costing you about $700 when it's all said and done.

The total commitment for 2013 is $505, plus applicable fees/taxes and shipping (varies depending on your location and the shipping method you choose). This includes 12 monthly figures (12 @ $25 = $300), 4 beasts/variants/multi-packs (1 each at $25, $30, $50, $75 = $180), and a $25 membership fee for a total of $505 plus shipping/taxes/fees.

Veronica Mars 01-17-2013 04:02 PM

I think over the course of a year I can swing that, especially with it looking like MU is about over

DHeezy81 01-17-2013 04:06 PM

I'm not sure how much of a line-up they'll have for next year. If it continues, I'm sure 2014 will be the last year. But I'm hoping they do a Snake Mountain pre-sale like they did with Grayskull. So that would keep interest in the line going into 2014. @ the very least I see 2014 being a half a sub. Figures every other month type deal.

Veronica Mars 01-17-2013 04:07 PM

Aww I knew I was coming to the party late

DHeezy81 01-17-2013 04:14 PM

Better late than never ;)

I didn't start until last summer. Tons of $ later I'm all caught up except for Shadow Weaver. But she'll be off my hit list soon enough!

Veronica Mars 01-17-2013 04:22 PM

Yeah Shadow Weaver is one of the scary second hand ones, I hope they at least do Glimmer and Scorpia before the end. Is there usually a big showing for the line at toy fair?

DHeezy81 01-17-2013 04:35 PM

I don't know about Toy Fair. But SDCC always has a big showing, NYCC too, but not as grand as the SDCC one.

And honestly, while that is your choice and that is fine, I think that is going overboard. The white mailers are just a piece of junk made to keep the product safe. At first, I kept them, but after I had about 50 of them piling up in my closet, I realized they were not worth keeping and either used them for shipping boxes or tossed them out.

Veronica Mars 01-17-2013 08:12 PM

my MOTUC so far. I have to say, having gotten used to MU and other 1/18 scale lines, these seem massive

DHeezy81 01-17-2013 09:55 PM

Hordak is such a bad ass figure!

The birth of a collection is almost as joyous as the completion of one.

Veronica Mars 01-17-2013 11:08 PM

I know, and Hodak is soo cool

Whaaaaaat!!!! MU is about over?! Since when?!

True, but TOD is nice, plus she comes with the plinth, which, if you get King Grayskull, means you have the orb on the plinth with the power-charge sword... and so on.

At least the $25 "Membership Fee" gets you the club exclusive figure. So really, it's not a membership fee at all. You're essentially paying for the figure.

Veronica Mars 01-18-2013 10:28 AM

when do they announce who the exclusive figure is?

Every year at SDCC at the MattyCollector/Mattypalooza panel.

SDCC is like a toy holiday for me..even though I never have attended but I love getting the news from the web. MOTUC has been my favorite toy line to collect and follow these past years and SDCC is always an exciting time.
