Kotobukiya D-Style Black Convoy and Starscream Announced

Kotobukiya have announced another pair of releases in their D-Style Transformers lineup. The first of the pair is only announced via artwork right now, but is a D-Style version of Starscream! If he is like previous releases, expect him to be quite poseable, but non-transforming, and including some accessories based on his TV appearance including a small accessory of his vehicle mode.

Also announced - and shown as a color prototype - is a D-Style Black Convoy. As is the tradition, this is a black repaint of the previous D-Style Convoy figure, and he bears a Decepticon brand - so that's three D-Style Decepticons to one Autobot thus far! The placard with him mentions he will be released in 2015 - our betting is he'll come out before Starscream arrives.

Via Autobase Aichi on Facebook, we have a look at two new EX Gokin releases coming soon from Art Storm. The pair are Arcee and Elita-1, and like Art Storm's previous EX Gokin Alpha Trion release, they are non-transforming poseable figures based on the original Generation 1 animation models. Both feature alternate heads - Arcee's sports her "binocular visor" seen during the "Attack on Autobot City" scene from Transformers The Movie.

Autobase Aichi's gallery also includes a fresh look at other items on display at the Winter Wonder Festival 2015, including the ES Gokin Convoy and Rodimus figures, the D-Style releases from Kotobukiya, and the Prime-1 Studios statues.

Hasbro attached an image featuring a modified Transformers: Robots In Disguise Warrior Class Bumblebee with the tweet (included with this news post). The modification was a tribute to Minitron; Julian Edelman's nickname given by Tom Brady.

Prime 1 Studios were out in force at Winter Wonder Festival 2015. As well as the previously mentioned Age of Extinction Optimus Prime and Galvatron statues, the group showed off their upcoming Drift statue, fully painted for the first time.

Also on show were several current and planned releases including the gigantic Grimlock from Age of Extinction, Dark of the Moon Bumblebee, and Dark of the Moon Optimus Prime. There are also several of the smaller character busts on display, including a trio of gold busts previously unseen to our knowledge.

Pictures attached to this story come to you via Autobase Aichi, after the break, there is a Youtube video by Ricci Man Productions of Drift, showing some of the exquisite detail that Prime 1 works into their releases.

Despite Defensor's proclivity for passivity, Prometheus is armed to the teeth with a number of machine guns, pulse rifles and a massive mini-gun with which to defend himself and others. He is quite the formidable figure and for those looking to add to their Classics collection, he is quite a worthy and imposing addition.

It appears that these are altered from the non-electronic Titan Hero figures, which were just recently seen at US retail. They also appear to be really easy to miss as the figures are nearly identical as well (comparison images included courtesy of Nevermore).

IDW And Hasbro Celebrate 10 Years By Extending Their Relationship - Press Release

Originally posted by: Matty @ TFW2005.com

Quote:

We just received the following press release from IDW Publishing marking a huge milestone of 10 years of business with Hasbro, as well as an announcement of extending that relationship for years to come. Starting in 2005 with the rebooted Generation 1 continuity, IDW and Hasbro have enjoyed years of successful comic books from Transformers and other properties. Read on for the full press release and be sure to pick up some Transformers comic books!

San Diego, CA (February 9, 2015) – This year marks the Tenth anniversary of IDW Publishing and Hasbro being in business together, a relationship that began in 2005 with the publication of IDW’s first TRANSFORMERS title. To celebrate a decade of creativity, innovation, and success, the two companies are announcing the extension of their blockbuster relationship.

Once TRANSFORMERS was established as an immediate success, IDW expanded its comic line to include the Hasbro property G.I. JOE, then eventually the smash-hit MY LITTLE PONY and coming this March, JEM & THE HOLOGRAMS! IDW will also continue to publish the LITTLEST PET SHOP and DUNGEONS & DRAGONS comics. These titles have become perennial staples at IDW, and will continue to play key roles in IDW’s publishing slate going forward, in all existing formats, both print and digital. Fans of the line can expect much more of the quality products they’ve come to expect: Comics, Trade Paperbacks, Hardcovers, Micro Comic Fun Packs, IDW Limited collections, and more.

“At this point, I almost feel I’ve run out of superlatives for Hasbro. They remain an absolutely fantastic collaborator on every level,” said IDW CEO & Publisher, Ted Adams. “After ten years in business together, it’s clear what a huge part of our success Hasbro has been, and what an appropriate time this is to solidify our relationship well into the future.”

2014 was full of hits that captivated fans and critics alike. From the hit TRANSFORMERS event Dark Cybertron, to the celebratory 25th issue of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, readers were treated to some truly monumental stories. The critically acclaimed TRANSFORMERS vs G.I. JOE, series found itself among 8 “Best Of” lists for 2014, with VICE Magazine proclaiming, “If you were a child in the ‘80s and remember playing with these toys, this comic will work for you on that level. If you appreciate some of the most beautiful drawings currently being published in a comic book, then this can work for you on that level, too.”

“IDW embodies all of the great qualities Hasbro looks for in a publisher, and we share common values,” said Michael Kelly, Hasbro’s Director of Global Publishing. “With IDW, we know we can count on superb storytelling, innovative distribution strategies, and bold thinking. We’ve come a long way together in ten years, but this is only the beginning.”

Announced recently by Diamond Comic Distributors, Inc. the fan-favorite series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic was voted the Best All-Ages Series and earned the coveted Diamond Gem award for 2014! This marks the second Diamond Gem award earned by the series, the previous being Best Licensed TP/HC in 2013.

With an extension on most licenses and formats moving into the future, it’s clear that 2015 is only the beginning for IDW and Hasbro.

Former TF Artist Don Figueroa's Armarauders Project Update

A little bit on Non-Transformers news today. Back in 2012 we got word that famed Transformers artist Don Figueroa was involved with a new project called Armarauders. An all original story featuring a comic book and toys based on it was the plan. Don was doing the mecha designs and drawing the books, both things that he excels at.

The comics are now hitting issue 6, and the first figure is set to go up for pre-orders in March. Mecha Workshop is the company producing it, and they've sent out early copies of the figure for review. We've done up a full set of over 140 pics showing the Armarauders Bellerophon in action at our sister site Toyark.com. We hope you'll check it out and see what one of the best Transformers artists to grace our comics and packages is up to now.

Scribd launches a "Netflix for comics"

Originally posted by: Sol Fury @ TFW2005.com

Courtesy of io9, we have this interesting tidbit of news. It seems that online ebook subscription service Scribd has struck a deal with comics publishers to essentially let them become "the Netflix for comics". According to io9, publishers including Marvel, Arcana, Archie, Boom! Studios, Dynamite, Kingstone, Space Goat, Top Cow, Valiant, and of course IDW have signed up to the deal.

While it is unclear what of the various company's entire publication histories will ultimately be available, it is reported that new books will be going up on the service roughly a month after their publication - not bad, for a monthly subscription, and we like the sound of the "binge" button (for when you discover a new title that you just have to read the next issue of, without exiting the reader). TFW member Thelonicon reports that presently some of the issues are in inconsistent places, and there are a few random omissions - hopefully hiccups that will be resolved as the service finds its feet.

Check out the full writeup on io9.
