I ran into the DC Multiverse Aquaman finally at Walmart, and it must have been a day for men of the sea, as a friend of mine ran into Namor at Walgreens and snagged me one. No end cap display...just two or three on the shelf with the rest he said. Gonna be some fish tales and trident comparisons going on at the toy shelf tonight! Happy hunting!

I know this isn't really the place for it, but how do you like that Aquaman? I've been hesitant to get back into DC 6" figures, but a little Jason Momoa Aquaman might tip the scale for me.

Strange because I have both Epic Collections of Cap that feature the Serpent Society and I don't see Eel in their group at all.

Articulation wise, if you've ever owned a DCUC figure, then you know what you're getting. Single jointed limbs, no ankle pivot or wrist hinges, the gaping T-crotch, and in the case of the Mamoa Aquaman, no ab crunch (but he does have a waist swivel.) You might have difficulty striking a dynamic pose with him, but he looks good in a static standing one.

For me, it wasn't so much about the articulation as it was for me liking the overall design of the character, and how it was translated onto the toy. I'll be the first to admit, I am not a DC fan at all, but I really loved the look that Snyder came up with for Aquaman. Having grown up in Hawaii, the look they went with Aquaman literally looks like many of the Hawaiian demi-gods in Hawaiian mythology, and I think it is a perfect way of explaining why they look that way if you were to insert those myths into the DC cinematic universe. The likeness on the figure could be better, but the paint color choices are really awesome, and there is a lot of sculpt work detail as well. The tattoos are also really crisp and clean, and there is even signs of drybrushing on the figure. He's easily the cream of the crop with the BvS line.

I can't say i'm surprised about the figures of the upcoming Captain America wave since a lot of these were rumored for months. I'll get Wonder Man, Captain Britain, and Eel but that's it. I don't collect movie figures so Scarlet Witch is a pass. I already have a great Cap in the Face Off and Red Onslaught wave Cap so I don't need this Secret War version. Iron Skull is a joke so he's a easy pass. I don't understand why Hasbro can't give us a Red Skull in his classic silver age green outfit. The Toybiz Abomination is still great so I have no need to build up this BAF.

I wish we could have gotten someone else as a BAF instead of Abomination since they're already giving us Abomination in the SDCC exclusive.

Pravus Prime 06-24-2016 11:45 PM

The upcoming Scarlet Witch and Simon look great.

Augustus_Cole 06-25-2016 12:12 AM

1. Scarlet Witch - yes
2. Captain Britain - yes
3. WonderMan - yes
4. Secret Wars Cap - probably no, but i like that throwing hand shield
5. Eel - WHO?!? - probably no
6. Iron Skull - def no
7.Abomination - will need to see this assembled and close up and near other figures.

En Sabah Nerd 06-25-2016 12:36 AM

I'll probably get the movie Scarlet Witch even though I already have the comic one from the Odin wave. I may get Wonder Man depending on what else is out. Iron Skull is totally stupid, he's not even from the comics he's from some cartoon so it getting a figure in this line baffles me. On a final note the Select Abomination is more abominable (in a good way) but then again the Select big guys tend to be better than the Hasbro BAF counterparts except for articulation.

warmachine6 06-25-2016 01:09 AM

screams like little girl , Captain Britain looks amazing i need him !!!!
will get red skull for the heads his alternate head might be good
Abomination looks nice , but that blasted SDCC set dam it
wonderman yes !!! might get that scarlet witchfor my MCU collection, but already go the comic version.. that being said
everyone else meh , decent wave

Boy Blunder 06-25-2016 02:38 AM

You know, despite not having a lot of interest in this wave aside from Wanda, I wouldn't be upset if I ended up getting the whole wave. Even Cap and Iron Skull have a bit of charm for me, and I have a thing for whacked-out bad guys in garish costumes (like Eel).

I like the wave also, but I said that at the Toyfair reveal. Unlike most, I'm not craving MCU Wanda and the fig is the least wanted of the bunch...I'd rather have one of Wanda's current looks on a retooled figure (get rid of the heels for all female figures, Hasbro). The whole hero costume-slash-contemporary fashion motif employed by filmmakers has never sat well with me. Which brings me to your point about colorful attire. I couldn't agree any more. Tacky costumes and wild designs are what super-heroes and super-villains are all about. Jarring and in your face. Gimme Speedball (not the drug cocktail, of course ;)) and an original Dr. Strange...I'll take your Madcap and Jack of Hearts, please and thank you...and throw in some original Captain Britain (don't get me wrong, this current offering was the one I wanted...but that original suit was a sight to behold) and original Wonder Man (or even movie-star Simon...again the offered version is the one I wanted most). Just as I prefer my super-heroes to be 'super' (gimme powers any day - human heroes are too mundane for my tastes)...I also like 'em loud and proud...

"Say it loud!" ha!...had to be added :MrT:p

Everytime i see that " aquaman" i just picture him walking around the streets of new york muttering " i can talk to fish, im a king under the sea" while being escorted to a waiting van by two people dressed in white saying " yeah sure pops. Now c'mon we have a nice place all ready for ya to rest. Nice padded walls all comfy for ya " ;)

Yeah, I really hate Hobo Aquaman.

Agreed! That's why that line from the first X-Men movie still bothers me so much. The one where Cyclops goes What would you have preferred? Yellow spandex?"

The whole time, I'm just thinking "....YES!"

VonPooten 06-25-2016 08:31 AM

@TBM, If you're not too fussed about swapping, altering, and perhaps even painting a little, MCU Wanda's body would also make a much better Nico Minoru than the one we shall get with the Doctor Strange wave. Nico's been a young adult for at least a few years in the comics, and Wanda's trenchcoat/corset combo is perfect for her (plus Nico's head looks a little bulbous on that tween body).

Just, you know, in case you wanted to do something with the figure other than box her away. :p

I can see that. Quite Emily VanCamp in appearance (now that is a figure I'd like to see!) Who knows when they'll tackle a Defenders wave. It seemed like a certainty, but now..

Oh and, if anyone's wondering, Braddock's duds are from the Chris Claremont/Michael Ryan run of New Excalibur from 2006. It didn't break any ground, but was a lot of fun if you're curious about where the costume originated.

Spyne98 06-25-2016 09:28 AM

I'm digging the Cap wave. I just want three guys, but it looks cool.

Damn, this just makes me want a Nocturne even more, given that we're also getting Juggy.

I think it works nicely. Hopefully someone will do a cast of it at some point, as I think it might be a hot selling item should they do it.

My apologies for the dark lighting...about the best I can do this time of night...

The trident that came with the DC Total Heroes Aquaman might look good too!
