You're right Von, there have been a great number of stellar figs in 2016. That said, I expected a dip in quality the minute Hasbro announced, "more legends in one year than ever before." Any product maker that intends to put out a significant amount more of it wares than previously enjoyed, runs the inevitable risk of a decrease in quality...especially if they don't increase the number of production facilities. Obviously, I have no clue what Hasbro's doing on the logistical side of things, but if I know anything about corporate business trends, I doubt they are ramping up money spent on Chinese manufacturing costs and labor. I think this might explain the head scratching duds that crop up from time to time (such as Simon et al). Although, over-all, I think they are doing a very good job considering the sheer number of releases. I'd be ok with 'less for more' though as far as quality is concerned...and my pockets lol

Yup! The third Cap wave seems to be a victim of this "more figures than ever!" mantra. Although I'm not too bothered about Simon's "blandness," being more happy to have him than anything (although they couldn't have just sculpted his chest 'W'?) When we saw Mockingbird, Taskmaster and others at SDCC last year, complete with their own unique sculpted details, I thought the quality was too good to be true across the board.

It truly wouldn't have hurt them if they released Sam as Captain America in this wave to bring some star power, or even the movie Falcon and Winter Soldier. Iron Skull has never been needed (nor particularly wanted from what I can see), but, nyeh. I'm just happy they're releasing Scarlet Witch!

I agree with Nash, though. Six waves of better quality figures would FAR outweigh nine so-so ones. Unfortunately most people only want up to and including half of any given wave, but end up buying the whole thing for the ease of case purchasing. Damn you Hasbro, you smart, irksome business.

Yeah, I agree. At this point, any incarnation of Cap 'Briton' or Wonder Man will be happily accepted into my collection. As I said, in our convos, I honestly believe Hasbro might be experiencing the down side of an 'embarrassment of riches' scenario. With so very many characters to choose from and enthusiasm at an all time high (? - opinion; no data to back that up), they seem to be a bit on the thematically-clueless side as it pertains to exactly 'whom' to release and how to create wave continuity/branding. Where the hell is Angela? (rhetorical question) Winning "Fan-choice" apparently may mean less than it implies...

There appears to be a schism internally at Hasbro that's manifesting itself in the presentation of waves. Oddballs thrown in here and there (not complaining, I like odd characters), while no-brainer characters get left out. Sandman gets no accessory limbs (at least as pictured...hopefully, that will change). Simon gets 'ionic' fists - only (WTF?), while Namor is glaringly missing them (at least he has swimming hands, I guess). Electro gets two heads whereas the Eel gets a set of normal hands, and redrafts featuring classic threads appear seemingly out of the blue for both Wolverine and Punisher.

But in the end, I don't need to understand it...just gimme what I like. Continuity would be nice, but it ain't necessary.

SymbiSpidey 06-26-2016 10:56 AM

One thing that always strikes me as odd about Hasbro is that they'll never give us a full team of characters, and by that, I mean they may give us all of the characters that were on a team, but each character will be wearing a costume from a completely different era/team compared to their teammates. I know they do it because fans typically have a preference for specific looks ranging from a wide variety of eras, but still lol. It's not really an issue for characters with minor design changes from era to era like Electro (who comes with a classic head to better sell the look), but c'mon, I can't put Marvel Now Cyclops next to 90s Gambit....

I mean, I would complain about still not having a classic Jubilee and an updated Jim Lee Storm to go along with the rest of my 90s X-Men (all 3 of them) but considering that it was impossible to find the previous Jubilee and Storm without selling your first born and half of your second born, perhaps that's a blessing in disguise.

warmachine6 06-26-2016 11:28 AM

i havent had an issue with different costumes movie \ modern \ classic
i have some figures i.e avengers that are all 3 and they fit well imo
but i do understand , would be awesome if we got like
x-men age of apocalypse wave
x-treme X-men wave
x-men 90s wave

just a few examples, but those like me who have missed out on jean grey 90s version will have to fair a few £££\$$$ for her, even those wanting the new phoniex version

That being said the closet to that was the SDCC x-force set

Interesting that the Marvel Select Thor is slightly smaller than the Marvel Legends Thor. Selects always seemed so much bigger.

This seems to be an even more damaging aspect of their plan when said characters become instantly dated. Angela has not struck a chord with Marvel readers (after being rebooted and then cancelled), so is a ML figure even wanted anymore (objectively speaking)? They've timed Spider-Gwen, Miles and Silk's releases very well, but will a Jane Foster Thor, Sam Alexander Nova, or Kamala Khan arrive too late?

All I can say is I am very happy Hasbro released Marvel Now Storm when they did, because I love that costume, and odds are it would never be made now (given that she's already had another new look for 9 months).

I hear you on that. Even from an X-Men point of view, it's been, what, almost fifteen years of Marvel Legends, and we still don't have the Giant Size X-Men #1 squad in their respective outfits. I'm beginning to think that releases in sets (EE Guardians set, TRU original X-Men) might be a better method to get teams out there.

Are you reading this, Hasbro? You should be...

...I still want Angela though.

hasbro "surprise! you actually voted for the one you didn't want to see!" :p

i joke of course

BAD MOON 06-26-2016 12:15 PM

The Abomination should be bigger. He should be the most frightening heavy-hitter villain aside from the Juggernaut. The sculpt looks nice on the BAF, while the coloring seems to be more accurate on the SDCC version. The Toybiz version had a better overall sculpt but with outdated articulation. For me, the winner is still the Marvel Select. It is lacking in the articulation department, but the size, sculpt, and coloring are badass and make him look truly menacing. I think he's even a hair bigger than Select Juggs which works.

TheBlueMarvel 06-26-2016 12:22 PM

@warmachine6

lol irony in that, what?...;)

As for the vote, no one asked me to participate (I think Fwoosh had something, but you have to sign up to some social-media comment aggregator in order to participate on their articles...and homie don't play 'dat) I most wanted Quasar, but Angela was my choice of the characters remaining after Wendell got knocked off. I'm not a huge fan of her, but I lean toward heavy-hitters (as far as powers are concerned) as it relates to my super hero interests.

There's a chance that the ol' Spawn fans will scoop up Angela, we remember her. Spawn didn't have the best writing but as a character Angela was likable as she transitioned from Heaven's assassin to realizing both sides were heavily flawed. It still feels like Marvel just got her and pushed her up front to say "look who we took!"

I don't think a Sam Nova or Kamala Ms. Marvel could arrive too late as they've already been around for a few years now and maintained a following. I mean as a big Rich Rider fan he'll always be my number 1 Nova but Sam has been an okay follow-up since Marvel refuses to revive Rider, though this latest volume feels like it's meandering to me.

Veronica Mars 06-26-2016 12:56 PM

I'd love an updated Angela, my old McFarlane toys one doesn't really fit in my display

warmachine6 06-26-2016 01:11 PM

i think she might show her self in the thor wave isnt she meant to be his sister

Hasbro makes their Thors way too big. Personally Marvel Select Marvel Now Thor is probably my favorite Thor figure ever

Yeah Marvel forced that TV soap opera crap about Angela being Thor's long lost half sister down our throats because they thought the character needed to be heavily tied to a preexisting character for fans to pay attention to her. So yeah Angela being in a Thor themed wave would be likely, even if they hadn't forced that bad drama into the character she would still have a place in a wave of Thor characters for being a "Heaven" based character so they could in theory do a variant type release called like "warrior goddesses" that would be Angela and Sif.

I don't know exactly which one is the Thor 'now' version. I have the one that came with the Castle tower top for him to stand on.
i REALLLLLLLLLLLLY wanted that spinning hammer that came with the Disney store exclusive, but not enough to buy another Thor just for that. Hoping to one day run across it loose.

Oh yeah, me too. I just don't think it will sell. :p

Her comic would have been a hit if Kieron Gillen had stayed around. Marguerite Bennett is a very decent writer, but she has no substantial following. To put her on a relatively "new" character's book doomed it from the start.

On saying that, she is a very cool character. She reminds me of Warbird from Aaron's X-Men run, who was as equally bloodthirsty, with a hearty dash of hilarity thrown in.

Spider-gwen was alot more hot last year, she has since calmed down a tad, same with silk and miles. needless to say they are all still popular characters. i don't believe khamala khan, or the new nova, or jane foster really have that big of a fan following.... more like a small niche so to speak.

I've heard more whines and want backs of richard rider, Thor odinson etc as opposed to these rookies....

VonPooten 06-26-2016 03:25 PM

^I dunno man, The Mighty Thor is still selling around the 50k mark, outselling Harley Quinn and on par with Iron Man, but yeah I agree that Sam and Kamala never had that level of popularity to begin with.

Harbinger 06-26-2016 03:36 PM

I would love to see rick rider back. Sam just doesnt ring home with. I too would like to see thor reclaim his mantle as janes novelty has worn off. Sadly i doubt either will happen in the name of " forced diversity" and lazy creative teams, and probably marvel not wanting to shell out mney for new patents on new characters or whatever process that entailss. I blame bendis ;)

Starlord67 06-26-2016 03:45 PM

I too would love to see a return of Rich Rider, Odin son Thor and normal Logan as Wolverine!!! And here here on the Giant sized X-men marvel legends pack.... STORM, POLARIS, SUNFIRE, THUNDERBIRD & A NEW CYCLOPS and BANSHEE!!

Really? I think her title's still excellent. Jason Aaron brought new life into the Thor mythology when he took over in 2012, and Jane's Thor carries that on seemlessly. It doesn't seem forced at all, considering his God of Thunder volume was centred around the question of Odinson's worth.

I dunno, maybe it's just me. I love Laura as Wolverine, too. It makes complete sense for her character, but I guess to someone who just sees the headline it could come across as "forced" diversity. Legacy characters have been around for years, though, especially since Jim Shooter was EIC back in the 80's.

Back on topic though, a Laura figure is sorely in need. Toybiz did an atrocious job on her figure, so if Hasbro tackles her in X-23 or Wolverine form, I'm game!

Great minds think alike once again !!

I'm actually pretty impressed Marvel is coming out with a COMPLETELY NEW character come this week in the next inhumans comic. They're trying to push him too. Characters name is mosaic. Im very pleased this is a brand new idea, and there isn't any gender swapping, ethnicity, and sexual orientation changing of a long running traditional comic character.

They should have been doing this from the start if they want to be diverse.

I dunno i guess i dont ever consider wolverine or thor legacies. Logan is wolverine laura x is x-23. Her taking the mantle really kinda takes away from her own identity as x-23. If anyone else shoulda been wolverine in the normal verse it should been jim hudson from the ultimate verse. Now someone like cap is more of a legacy character than thor. the title of god or goddess of thunder would seem to be more transferable but to take the characters given name and give it to another well its more id theft then legacy ( aka lazy writers not being original or marvel not wanting to shell out cash for a new character trademark. ). Not to diminish whatever story is going on in the comic as bad or good, its just that taking non- legacy character titles and turning them into legacies is lazy and uncreative. Hell SIF woulda made a better Goddess of thunder, or brunhilde the valkyrie and brought an underrated character into more of the forefront. And thor could continued in his own title just without his hammer.

On a lighter note, i still say Nick fury whispered to thor " i saw your internet search history." ;)

And i am with yah...we sorely need a new X-23 figure. Theres no redeeming either version of toybiz version.

i really think the 616 logan needs to return, im not a x-23 fan at all..... however i am partial to Old man logan. WHEN they DO bring back the 616 logan, they need to somehow figure out how to keep OML there as well.
