Dr strange complete wave yes, likely, some were shown at NYTF 2016
Thor or any other avengers i would be surprised, unless they are showing comic characters

Captain Nash 06-29-2016 02:07 PM

(now my quoting thing is ALL fracked up LOL)

We will almost definitely see the full Dr. Strange wave at SDCC. which would be wave 7 this year.

If rumors are true about the Spider-Man and X-Men 2 waves (waves 8 and 9 this year) we'll likely see those as well, unless the release rumors are wrong and they're sometime next year.

We also have the rumored Wolverine wave that is supposed to be sometime next year but not sure if it's too soon for that. I also wouldn't be surprised if we see some kind of early prototypes for GOTG 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming and THor: Ragnarok, though definitely more of GOTG2 than the other two.

Starlord67 06-29-2016 02:08 PM

Just for the record I would love to complete the classic Alpha Flight from the first issue of their original series.

warmachine6 06-29-2016 02:09 PM

Come to think about, it think the avengers wave might decrease slightly after infinity war

This is Englehart, quoted from Sean Howe's Marvel Comics: The Untold Story...

"Basically, Mantis was supposed to be a hooker who would join the Avengers and cause dissension amongst all the male characters by coming on to each of them in return [...] She was introduced to be a slut."

In a nutshell, he's "always been a big fan of sex," (okay dude) and wanted the men to have someone they could fool around with. Luckily editorial scrapped that idea of his, so he could never make her his fantasy sex slave for the Avengers men, but unfortunately the prostitute aspect did make it into her origin. So, yeaaaaaah. Not the greatest vision for a character, and sadly I can't see her as anything other than a big perv's yearning to get sex into the Avengers.

Haven't read DnA's Guardians run though, so, can anyone say if she's portrayed well in that?

Yes an original Thunderbolts line-up would be ideal! Doubt they'd release a set, though, considering the modern version was the 2013 exclusive. Perhaps as part of several Avengers waves?

Captain Nash 06-29-2016 02:09 PM

Man you think exactly like me! Alpha Flight is another huge chunk of my most wanted figures. We need a Northstar, Aurora, Snowbird and Shaman SOO badly.

 Well, we had Moondragon and Tigra for that later on...so the idea was still there.

Rumored at one point, but I think there was confusion on the whole Captain Britain, Wonder Man, Eel and Crossbones thing, who exactly were the EEs. Granted not sure how Captain Britain fits into that...but whatever. Crossbones wouldn't be energized either...

To be fair..quite a few of the Avengers both male and female get around a bit. Starfox, Iron Man, Thor, She Hulk, Tigra, Moondragon, Hawkeye, Wonder Man, let's face it, Captain America is pretty much the only Avenger who hasn't taken too many dips in the pool.

And i know I'm encouraging it by discussing it, but maybe we shouldn't refer to them as sluts. It's really not a nice word. They just want to be loved...

Don't forget Tigra (speaking of her :S)! Very annoying that she got bumped from the Abomination wave, too, as I missed out on her when her first figure was released.

Also, yeaaah. The Avengers get around, don't they? :p

Thankfully, I've never personally followed Mantis, so I only knew of her in a periphery sense, and just thought she was yet another ass-kicker. Hearing all that stuff... I can see why you've got some problems with her. Yowch.

Agreed on how chapping it is to not get Tigra after seeing her listed as a potential for that wave. As for Captain Britain, he fits as an Energized Emissary since he acts in that role for Merlyn and Roma as a member of the Captain Britain Corps, and his combo platter of powers (which include force fields and energy beams) come from them.

As long as it's consenting (albeit fictional) adults doing what they will with other consenting (still fictional) adults, it's nobody's place to label them with slurs. So yeah.

SymbiSpidey 06-29-2016 04:18 PM

So I just picked up that Agents of SHIELD 3-pack from Toys R Us and I have to say......not bad. I'll be the first to admit, SHIELD is probably one of the least exciting aspects of the Marvel Universe for me. Not to say there's not interesting characters there, but it's kinda like how Special Forces is in the Mortal Kombat universe. Jax and Sonya are pretty cool characters but at the end of the day.....I probably wouldn't choose them over the demon fire ninja who has a skull for a face or the Bruce Lee clone that turns into a giant dragon.

The Agent Coulson is pretty damn awesome, don't know what else to say. The likeness is spot on. Unfortunately, I'm torn between keeping him as Agent Coulson or having him be Hammerhead for my Spidey Rogues Gallery.

Nick Fury is also pretty cool. This is actually my first experience with that trenchcoat body and yeah....it's not the best work Hasbro's ever done. It's certainly serviceable, but it needs an upgrade. I'm probably going to use the coat part for a Blade custom and give the Nick Fury head to comic Nick Fury because that Samuel L. Jackson likeness is spot on.

Maria Hill is probably the least exciting for me out of the set but she's pretty decent. Like with the other two, the likeness is pretty much spot on except her jaw looks a bit too square. Only thing I really don't like is that left hand. It's so oddly shaped. It's the same one for Sharon Carter. I'll probably throw her in with a couple of other SHIELD characters. I should have a pretty decent representation of SHIELD on my shelf (when I get a shelf lol).

For 30 bucks, that makes it 10 bucks per figure and I'd say it's definitely worth it.

She would fill out another spot of classic Avengers though which is always good. I think it's very likely we'll get her in GOTG 2 wave though, and likely with that it'll be more the DNA version of her.

@Nash
I was going to get back to you on this with similar details to what Von revealed, but I became busy and he beat me to the punch. I'm no Mantis expert or super-fan, but I've had a curiosity with the character since Annihilation. You may recall that I mentioned on this thread that I never knew what happened with Mantis and the 'Celestial Madonna' story arc; it came up during a convo we all had about uber powered Marvel women. Well, recently - about a month ago, I was able to track down the TPB for the culmination of that story: The Avengers - Celestial Quest (written by none other than one Mr. Steve Englehart - bless his heart - really, he needs some kind of help).

It was the very worst Avengers story I've ever read and very possibly the worst comic story I've ever consumed. Bad dialogue, silly plot, gross mischaracterizations, and piss poor art. I'll spare you the plot details, but it went just as Von laid out Engelhart's intentions to be. Mantis is a collective of five personas: a "freak" - sideshow attraction as a result of her green skin, "mother" - she bore the 'Celestial Messiah' (I won't even get into the mess that character turned out to be), "adept" - she trained in the mystic arts and looked exactly like Moondragon, "Avenger" - ok(?), and "woman" - aka prostitute (an interesting thematic connection that makes more sense now, given the explanation of his plans for the character and potential thoughts on women in a larger sense). As detailed in Von's breakdown of the mind of a pervert, Englehart has her bed down Vision in the presence of Wanda who claims it's ok only to be secretly furious about it later. The best part is that the Vision falls in love with her only to kick her to the curb in the end, relating that things would never work out between the two given their 'differences.'

It's the first TPB I've purchased that I actually considered trying to return, but I couldn't think of a good enough reason to give to my LCS owner that would validate him handing my money back.

@Von
'Guardians' Mantis wasn't written in either a groundbreaking or compelling manner...but she wasn't this bullshit. On second thought, there was a sexual fascination with her written into Bug and she and Starlord ultimately end up falling in love...hmmmmmmm, I'm seeing a pattern.

Edit: but yeah, I'll take a fig of her!:p

Just got one of the best deals I've found on ebay - a loose, complete Zemo, with BOTH Mandroid arms, for only $25 shipped. Glad to finally add him to the collection, and now I have TWO arms to sell. (Figure also came with the claw weapons from DCUC Catman - I'll have to ask the seller if that was intentional)

I need mandroid arms!

VonPooten 06-29-2016 06:00 PM

Yeesh, TBM, that sounds like it took most of your energy just to get through the story! Is this the arc where the alien tree transfigured into Swordsman? Englehart must have been on quite a few substances at the time...

Mantis, the poor luv. Not to throw her any moreso to the wolves, or to further trash talk a character that people on here might really like, but I thought this quote by Dave Cockrum in Howe's aforementioneed book was quite a larf:

"I never liked Mantis [...] Most of the Marvel staff at the time hated Mantis' guts. I think it was mostly that 'this one' crap."

So, the poor dear is raised by crazy Kree occultists, becomes a prostitute, is manipulated and tossed aside by various Avengers, was intended to be their sex object of desire, and was generally loathed by the staff behind the page. I'd say she's earned herself a long holiday, let alone a figure!

Edit: Very nice acquisition, Blunder! Zemo is one of the best uses of the Bucky body out there, so you made the right choice.

Panther 06-29-2016 06:06 PM

Entertainment Earth just sent me an email telling me that the Civil War 3-Pack has shipped.

YES!!!!!!

Veronica Mars 06-29-2016 06:07 PM

Entertainment Earth has started shipping the Juggernaut wave preorders
